• Drugs that require a prescribed amount by a medical professional for a medical illness/pain

• Amoxicillin, NorCo, Oxycodone

Types of Illegal Drugs

Marijuana

Club Drugs

• Drugs designed to resemble common illegal drugs in chemical structure and effect

• Ecstasy

• Adam, X or XTC

• Normally taken as pill

• Increased awareness, hallucinations, energy

• Muscle tension, teeth clenching, rapid heart rate

• Pass out and die from heat stroke

• GHB (date rape drug)

• Clear liquid or white powder

• Causes euphoria, relaxation, dizziness

• Vomiting, memory loss, coma, death

• Highly addictive

• Combined with ecstasy leads to high risk of seizure

• Ketamine• Special K, Kit Kat or Vitamin K

• Hallucination, numbness, inability to move

• Some people hurt themselves because they cant feel pain

• PCP• Angel dust

• Mild euphoria, out of body experiences

• Suicidal, accidental suicides, violent

• Can last a few hours to a few weeks

Most commonly used opiate Swallowed, snorted, smoked or injected Creates rush that leads to dreamlike state Most closely linked with violent crime Infection and HIV/AIDS is likely when sharing needles

Opium Black or dream stick Mild pain killer, slowed heartbeat, slowed breathing

Morphine and Codeine Mister blue or morpho Very similar to heroin Used for severe pain

• Tablet form• Absorbed through the tongue• Effects are not easy to predict• Some experiences can be extremely frightening

• Mushrooms• Commonly known as Magic Mushrooms• Similar effects to LSD• Produce alter perceptions of sight, sound, taste and

smell or touch• If abuser takes wrong kind: stomach pains, vomiting

and even death

Anabolic Steriods

• Synthetic versions of the male hormone testosterone to promote muscle development

• Unique because it does not have immediate psychoactive effects

• Usually taken for the body not the brain

• Stunted growth

• Aggression

• Paranoia

• Liver cancer

• Severe acne

• Shrinking of testes

• infertility

Effects on Females

• Severe acne

• Increased facial hair

• Deeper voice

• Disrupted menstrual cycle

• Infertility

• Rapid weight gain

Effects on the Body

• If teens take steroids their bones will mature too early and growth will be stunted

• In males it shuts down normal testosterone production (males can grow breasts)

Effects on Mind

• Aggression

• Roid rage (extremely irritable)

• Leads to violent crimes, assault and rape

• Withdrawl symptoms
