Describe the Topic - In groups write 6-10 words describing
drug use. - I will ask the class to tell me the words
and I will make a list and write the words on the whiteboard.
Step 2: Create Direct Analogies- Describe a famous athlete or public
figure who reminds you of the words written on the board.
- Give the rationale for why that individual was chosen.
Step 3: Describe Personal Analogies- Ask students to view reality from the
perspective of the athlete or public figure.
- Encourage students to explain why they had that particular feeling.
Step 4: Identify Compressed Conflicts- Ask students to view the list of words
and pair together words that seem to be in conflict with each other or fight each other.
- Write down on board the pairs that each group came up with.
Step 5: Create a New Direct Analogy- Using the conflict chosen by each
group ask students to create another direct analogy (animal).
- Write down the animal each group comes up with on the board.
Step 6: Reexamine the Original Topic- Compare the original topic of drug use
to the new analogy. - How does the new analogy relate to
the original topic?- What new ideas comes to mind about
comparing drug use and the new analogy?
