According to an IMS Health report, growth over the 12-month period remained stable in North America
at 11 % (market value $US78.4 billion) and in the top 5 European markets at 7% (combined value $US52.4 billion). The Japanese market (valued at $US38.8 billion) has also stabilised at a declining rate of 1 % per 12-month period. In Latin America, the growth rate declined from 3 to 2%, with Mexico having the largest decrease from 14 to 11 %.
In the US, genitourinary drugs represented the drug class with the fastest growing market (up 19%). This rise was due to the performance of the urological drugs, including sildenafil ['Viagra'], which rose 124% over the 12 months to December 1998.
