What is a date rape drug? • A drug used by individuals to

commit sexual assault • A drug that puts the person using

it at risk for unwanted sexual activity, as it removes the person’s ability to consent to sex

• Examples: Alcohol, Rohypnol, Ketamine, GHB

Rohypnol • A date rape drug • Mostly colorless, odorless,

tasteless • Commonly called “roofies” or the

“Forget Pill”

Fact: Rohypnol may be lethal when mixed with alcohol

Is it legal? • Rohypnol is illegal in the United

States • Possession of the drug is punishable

by a fine and sentence up to 3 years in prison

• Harsher penalties will incur if the drug is used in coordination with sexual assault

Acute Physiological Effects • Muscle relaxation or loss of

muscle control • Difficulty with motor movements • Drunk feeling • Nausea • Inability to remember events

occurred while drugged • Loss of consciousness • Confusion • Vision Problems • Dizziness • Sleepiness • Lower Blood Pressure • Stomach Problems • Death
