1 Dr.P.M.MOHAN ACHIEVEMENT I completed my M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Marine Sciences from Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi, Kerala and also worked as a Guest Lecturer in the same University for two years during the period of 1981 to 1991. Latter, I moved to continue my Post Doctoral work in Tamil University, Thanjavur for more than eight years and in 2002 I shifted to Pondicherry University to establish the Center for Island Studies in Port Blair, Andaman Islands to conduct the M.Sc. Marine Biology course as a Founder Head. This Center latter upgraded to Department of Ocean Studies and Marine Biology with its own Campus (12.5 Acre land) at Brookshabad, Port Blair. More than 40 crore rupees now invested in this campus for the development of the same. It is one of the self sufficient campuses in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. After Tsunami, during the year 2007, I initiated the M.Sc. Coastal Disaster Management course in the same campus. This course has uniqueness in the country i.e. any Under Graduate Science and Civil Engineering stream students can join this course. During the year 2010, this course has emerged as a separate Department in this Campus. At present in these Campus 90 Post Graduate Students and 65 Research Scholars are staying for their work along with 13 faculty members. Another interesting fact about this campus is that more than 80% of these students are coming from mainland i.e. Kanyakumari to Kashmir. Over and above, I am an ambitious personality in the field of research. I produced with in the short span of eight years, five Ph.D. and three were submitted for their thesis and five are working for their Ph.D. degree. In the thirteen years of service in Andaman, I published more than 75 research articles about Andaman Biodiversity, Coral reef environment, Climatic Studies and related topics. I alone have funded projects of more than 5 crore rupees and my laboratory at present is one of the best laboratories for Climatic Studies in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
