Strategies to reduce effects of

droughts in Thailand

Due of the uncertain impact of climate change on rice production, many introduced new crops.

Where their fields were previouslyused only to cultivate rice, fruitand vegetables now grow.

This meant that when droughtstruck again in late 2008, they

were able to produce enough foodto feed their family. In fact, out of the 57 households that took partin the program, 14 produced asurplus of food to sell at market.

Strategies to reduce effects of

droughts in Thailand

By 2015, an estimated 375 million people per year willbe affected by climate change-related disasters. Worldleaders have already committed to establishing a newClimate Fund -- a way of delivering cash to help poorcommunities avoid the worst effects of global warming.

Through charging pollution-heavy industries, such asshipping and aviation, for the right to pollute, or byimplementing a Robin Hood Tax on the banking sector, money could be raised without squeezing extra moneyfrom tax payers.
