The Youth Pastor Says…

Prayer is simply talking with God and responding and saying things that are on your heart

Prayer isn’t fancy words that sound all prayer like. It’s a conversation, in our own words.

When we read the Bible, or hear preaching, God speaks to us. When we pray we talk to Him.

Scripture basics – Prayer is… Seeking and finding GodActs 17:27 “That they should seek the Lord, if haply they

might feel after Him, and find Him, though He be not far from every one of us.”

Jeremiah 29:13 “And you shall seek me and find me, when you search for me with all your heart”

Supper with GodRevelation 3:20 “Behold I stand at the door and knock: if

any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him and he with me.”

In a word: Prayer is relationship with God

How do we pray? Can I learn or am I ‘born with it?”

Luke 11:1 “And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, after he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

Two examples that prayer can be taught;1. Jesus teaches his

disciples2. John the Baptist

also taught his disciples

Breaking it down

The quality of your relationship with God depends on the quality of your prayer

The depth of your knowledge of God depends on the depth of your prayer

The degree of your strength and power with God depends on the effectiveness of your prayer

James 5:16 “…the effectual [faithful] fervent [passionate] prayer of a righteous man avails much.”

Wrapping it up

Prayer is not heavenly pixie dust. It isn’t a magic formula to get what we want or need.

God is not our cosmic waiter Prayer is about submission to His will and

deepening relationship with Him We ask according to God’s will trusting

that we would’ve made the same decision that God made if we knew what He knows.

Gods will is perfect. This is true even if He says “Yes”, “No” or “not now”
