DRINKS LIST

Vodkas original definition was tasteless, odourless and colourless. That made it the easiest
spirit to mix into a cocktail and this is why a lot of the classics contain it - (think of the Cosmo, the
Espresso Martini or the infamous hangover cure, the Bloody Mary). Nowadays, some vodkas are
citrusy, others floral and some are a bit more nutty. Because of this, it pairs well with any flavour
from sweet to savoury to dry and spicy, so there really is a vodka combination for everyone.

Born in the USA, Bourbon is traditionally an American Whiskey through-and-through. Characterised
as having vanilla, oak, and caramel notes, it differs both in taste and categorisation of Whisky; all
Bourbon is Whiskey but not all Whiskey is Bourbon. Brandy, on the other hand, can give flavours of
fruits like apricots, oranges, and lemons which make both of them perfect spirits to use in cocktails.
Cognac, the most superior of Brandys, has become a symbol of luxury, edging away from its ‘stuffy
old man in a cigar room’ image and is to be enjoyed simply straight or on the rocks.

RUM
Golden, dark, light or spiced, Rum continues to be a key component of the modern cocktail bar.
When used in classic cocktails, modern infusions or served straight on the rocks, the variety of
drinks it can lend itself to is hard to beat. New and exciting offerings push Rum cocktails beyond the
classics and new spins on the traditional to show inventive twists on firm favourites.

WHISKYWhisky can only be called whisky if it has been matured in Scotland (hence the name Scotch
and lack of E-before-the-Y). With a distinctive smokey flavour coming from the ingredients and
distillation, there are 5 groups that are named based on their location. Each has their own clear
characteristics and if you like a whisky tipple more often than not, you’ll recognise where it’s from
straight off the bat.
Lowland Malt: Made South of an imaginary line drawn
from Dundee in the East to Greenock in the West.
Highland Malt: Made North of the aforementioned line.
Speyside Malt: Made in the valley of the River Spey.
Islay Malt: Made on the Island of Islay.
Island Malt: Made on the remainder of the Islands.
Single malts are unblended and pure. Different to their grain-based and blended sisters,
grain whiskies don’t have the same geographical influence of malts. Andrew Usher, who began
experimenting with mixing different grains and malts together to produce today’s blended whiskies,
is probably the reason that Scotland has more than 1,000 distilleries that produce over 2,000
different types.
