Dear Readers,

I encourage you to read this new issue of Drema Furnica News magazine. I hope it will bring a lot of interesting news about the opportunities we of-fer for pursuing even the most challenging marketing goals. As organisers of DREMA and FURNICA, scheduled to take place in Poznań on 29 March – 1 April 2011, we are aware just how important an effective investment in a trade fair pres-ence is for participants of this major fair event for the wood industry in Central and Eastern Europe. Therefore, we spare no effort every year to improve our offer in terms of quality, service standards, and its ability to accommodate your needs in the current market conditions. These conditions keep changing because of increasing competition, price pressure on products, and growing operational costs. Although these factors are negative by definition, they may have a positive impact as well, primarily on the development of marketing budgets where each and every investment has to be preceded by a detailed and rational analysis of clear-cut future ben-efits. It is no secret that such benefits can be achieved even in difficult times if we choose effective solutions to achieve them. One of our recommended solutions is to participate in prestigious trade shows whose main aim is to create demand for machines, tools, components and services with the help of leading manufacturers and suppliers representing all the key brands. To help exhibitors achieve this positive effect, we put a lot of emphasis on high quality of direct contacts and business talks that are supposed to translate into higher sales recorded by our clients.I hope this magazine will offer you insight into our company and the next year’s organisational formula for our trade fairs. I would like to wish you every success in both your profes-sional and private life.Best regards,

DREMA and FURNICA: trade fairs of good businessAfter the summer season, works on the upcoming editions of DREMA International Fair of Machines and Tools for the Wood and Furniture Industries and FURNICA International Fair of Components for Furniture Production have begun.

chinery Manufacturers, associating all top technology providers for this sector, proves DREMA is a high-profile event. Modern in-frastructure of the Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie allows to showcase equipment, machinery and entire production lines in operation. As a result, a trade fair presenta-tion gains a momentum in terms of effec-tive reach to prospective investors by way of providing them as much information as possible needed to make a purchase deci-sion. Apart from an interesting exhibitors’ offer, trade fair visitors participate in an in-dustry-focused programme of events with special areas and conferences. Presenta-tions of cutting-edge technologies, such as Live Furniture Factory, make a wonderful addition to the event and for exhibitors an opportunity to build their market position even more effectively.

FURNICA – WE CREATE TRENDS

In the same place and time we will have FURNICA, an excellent opportunity to pro-mote and provide expert feedback on new functional and design concepts for com-ponents for furniture production, includ-ing those dedicated to the sector of up-holstered furniture, in a specially arranged exhibition hall (read more on page 18-19). A unique formula of this trade fair put for-ward by the organisers aims at creating the latest furniture trends, and involves a visitor registration system that guarantees top quality business talks. The exhibition space will also include an inspiring spot for those who are looking for something more than just personal contact with compe-

tent suppliers. For demanding visitors, the organisers are preparing a new edition of the Charm of Detail: a special conference and exhibition area with focus on details, patterns and innovative concepts of func-tionality as well as design of furniture col-lections.

CHANCE TO PAY LESS FOR PARTICIPATION

Any trade fair presentation is a long-term investment that has to translate into a posi-tive financial result of exhibitors in terms of achieving marketing goals that have been set. The offer of participation in DREMA and FURNICA includes special elements that create a chance to benefit from active participation also for enterprises that used to opt for other forms of promotion. Trade fair organisers offer ready-made modular stands with additional services included in the price. Owing to this solution, a po-tential exhibitor can create their brand and establish business contacts while keeping costs way down. An additional incentive for companies that decide to order exhibition space by a pre-defined deadline (DREMA – by 22 October, FURNICA – by 10 Decem-ber) are preferential price terms that may reduce final costs of participation.

For many years now, trade fairs have been a recognised form of direct marketing and a communication platform, in this case on business to business level. Developed over the years together with participants, the organisational formula aims at reach-ing tangible and measurable business re-

sults. Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie, a leader of the trade fair and conference market in Poland and a significant player in Europe, is an active provider of solutions adjusted to current market needs. DREMA and FURNICA are clearly this type of suc-cess stimulators that cannot be left out from the catalogue of marketing tools of any modern company.

A few months of preparations to the trade fair are consumed during only four days of meetings with potential and present customers. These 32 hours have to ensure the highest possible return on investment in the company’s presence at the trade fair. An essential factor that optimises the consumption of precious time is the quality of talks held at stands and their direct impact on the achieve-ment of goals that have been set.Poznań-based DREMA and FURNICA offer a high standard of contact qual-ity both to exhibitors and professional visitors. The electronic visitor registration system and a short questionnaire that has to be completed upon arrival help the organisers collect detailed informa-tion about geolocation, represented sec-tor, scope of business, level of decision-making and range of interests. Owing to this, we know that more than 26 per cent of visitors are involved in produc-tion, whereas 23 per cent are involved in production combined with services

and trade. Trade fairs are mainly visited by people representing different sec-tors of the furniture production industry, carpenters and retailers. Owners, direc-tors and managers make up the largest group, namely 61 per cent, whereas 14 per cent are production technologists and designers. As much as 67.3 per cent of respondents are interested in visiting both DREMA and FURNICA, while 24.67 per cent is interested only in machines, with 8.06 per cent interested only in FUR-NICA. The trend of new trade fair visitors is also interesting: they make up about 27 per cent among all visitors. Conclusions drawn from the results of surveys carried out among visitors have a bearing on the development of a long-term development strategy for DREMA and FURNICA. This strategy involves a close contact with professional visitors from different sectors of the woodwork-ing and furniture industries using state-of-the-art IT and promotion tools.

Who are trade fair visitors? The effectiveness of your participation in any trade fair can be among others evaluated by the quality of talks held at stands. A positive result in this regard can only be achieved if your visitors are involved in the industry and actively interested in business development.

The production of upholstered furniture in Poland is a prominent sector of the furni-ture industry. Owing to its openness to new developments and constant drive towards self-development, it successfully maintains a strong presence on the market. Recognis-ing this openness to innovation, trade fair organisers have prepared even better con-ditions for meetings of this industry with its suppliers.

PRESTIGIOUS LAYOUT

FURNICA occupies four halls of Międzyna-rodowe Targi Poznańskie located near the

Western entrance, with a roofed walkway that represents modern architecture. The attractive interiors of Hall 8A with addi-tional lighting of the entire space as a stan-dard will help present fabrics and other components in an inviting manner. Ready-made modular stands with carpeting and interesting design will allow exhibitors to save time needed to organise a trade fair presentation and focus instead on the preparation of their offer and models. Pas-sageways covered with carpeting match-ing stand colours provide a home-like atmosphere in the hall. In addition, there will be a Rest&Meet point located in this

CONTACTS WITH A qUALITY MARK

Exhibitors of the Poznań-based trade fairs know that their presence at FURNICA means more than just an opportunity of a presentation before their customers in good light. Participants value this business meeting for quality business talks held at stands, which results from registration and careful pre-selection of visitors. Con-sequently, exhibitors can be sure that any person they meet is a prospective busi-ness partner who has a tangible goal to achieve when visiting their stand. Profes-sional public actively looking for contacts to facilitate business development is a wonderful source of opinions about new models and information about the indus-try situation.

Jacek Obarski

Held since 2006 and unique on the Polish market, FURNICA has secured itself a commanding position in the calendar of profes-sionals from the sector of furniture manufacturers looking for contacts with the best producers and suppliers of components. Every year, this trade fair attracts nearly 170 exhibitors from Poland and abroad who showcase their latest products, and many of them actually have their premieres in Poznań. The professional public, comfortable conditions and presence of leading compa-nies: these are the main assets that help exhibitors effectively reach their marketing goals with a high rate of return on investment in their trade fair presentation.

The author of the SEGNO bed design is katarzyna Maćkowiak, a third-year stu-dent of the Poznań University of Life Sci-ences specialising in Furniture Design at the Faculty of Wood Technology. This de-sign has won a competition for the best design of a bed for bedroom. The first run-ner up was ECHOES by Jakub Puszyński and the second REVE by Stanisław Giera, respectively.

Live Furniture Factory has been held at DREMA since 2007, and has successfully provided valuable insight into technolog-ical nuances. Owing to this presentation attracting leading suppliers of machinery, tools, software and components, furniture makers visiting the trade fair have an op-portunity to take a closer look at a fully-fledged live machinery line. Every year,

different type of furniture is produced in the Factory, so that the undertaking can boast both innovation and quality transfer of cutting-edge technologies to the furni-ture market. The latter is supervised by technology suppliers in collaboration with expert partners, including researchers and practitioners from the Department of Fur-niture Design of the Poznań University of Life Sciences. Owing to the university in-volvement, the project attracts students for whom participation in the project means work on concept development for produced furniture, choice of relevant technologies and production set-up. This kind of experience is priceless for future university graduates from the perspective of practical skills, very important for their future employers.

Taking part in any trade fair means you need to book exhibition space and finance stand construction, which gives you an opportu-nity of free stand arrangement, employing even the most sophisticated design pos-sible. Instead of the aforementioned option, you can choose a special offer of modular stands. Trade fair organisers offer a couple of variants, with different size (6-20 m2) and lo-cation (row or corner stand), so that you can choose the most suitable option.

A turnkey stand with carpeting, storage room, power connection and lighting all included in the price creates a very pleas-ant background for presenting both printed and multimedia publicity materials and your company name. Standard stand furnishing includes anything that is needed for com-fortable customer service: a reception desk, a table with chairs, and folder and leaflet stands. The price also includes a daily clean-ing service: a convenient solution to take any cleaning concerns off your mind.

What do you need to do to order a stand? All it takes is to contact your Customer Atten-dant, complete the received registration form and send it back together with a proof of payment of the registration fee including ad-ministrative costs, i.e. entry to the catalogue in printed and CD version, one invitation to

industry evening and a package of 40 free invitations for Customers. All you are left to do then is pack your samples and advertising materials and come to the trade fair to enjoy your new business contacts. And what about booking a flight and hotel? We do this, too!

SPECIAL oFFER

Your own stand for as little as 890 € ? If you do not have the time and resources to organise a large stand with an elaborate layout, it is a good idea to choose an economic offer of ready-made modular stands. If you register by 22 October, you may pay even less.

O rdering exhibition space and a se-lection of an appropriate booth that meets your expectations: these are

the first steps to achieve positive results of your participation in a trade fair. The Promo-tion Service Department of Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie offers many additional tools for creating a positive image among the pro-fessional public.

OUTDOOR AND INDOOR ADVERTISEMENT

Large-format advertisement is clearly the most attractive and the most visible form of promotion and communication with the target group. We offer space on facades of halls, inside the halls and in entrance lobbies.

Located in busy spots, they attract visitors’ attention and encourage them to visit the stand. The MTP offer includes over 60 loca-tions, the largest reaching a maximum area of 360 sq m.

ADVERTISING STRUCTURES

The company offers an unlimited range of solutions for any exhibitor in the form of ad-vertising structures placed on MTP grounds. The communication with visitors outside the stand is effected via interesting, eye-catching structures placed in relevant loca-tions. You can use stands, roll-ups, boards, balloons, flags, cars and many other unusual structures according to your own discre-tion.

DISTRIBUTION OF MATERIALS

During any trade fair, all exhibitors can have their promotional materials, folders and ad-vertising gadgets distributed among trade fair visitors. Owing to mobile advertisement, your information can reach visitors before they reach your stand. This service can be used in a huge number of ways. Beginning from hostesses wearing conspicuous outfits through stilt-walkers, roller-bladers, roller-skaters and segway riders to mime artists for example. The choice depends on your inventiveness.

ExHIBITORS’ CATALOGUE A trade fair catalogue is a wonderful place for presenting the trade fair offer of any exhibitor. Issued before every trade fair, it allows reaching a carefully selected target group interested in the industry the trade fair is dedicated to. A copy of the catalogue is received by every exhibitor as well as every visitor who buys it during the trade

fair. With this material a visitor finds his way around on the fairgrounds. It is a guide; it is the best concise source of information about the exhibition offer of a given trade fair. Every exhibitor can have an obligatory catalogue entry placed in the catalogue in the alphabetical list of exhibitors (an entry includes company name and address) along with the text of trade fair offer, company logo or address entry in the list of exhibitors according to product groups. You can have your advertisement or an insert advertise-ment published in the catalogue, and we can do advertisement design. It should be mentioned that the trade fair catalogue is also published on the website of a given trade fair which has a great num-ber of viewings, in particular in the period preceding the trade fair, when printed cop-ies or CDs of the catalogue are not available. Prior to the trade fair, in a special section there is a list of all exhibitors posted along with stand locations; then, when the trade fair begins, we post a catalogue supple-

mented with addresses and any contact details of companies.

TRADE FAIR MAGAzINES AND PRINTED MATERIALS

Poznań Fair Magazine is published by the Warsaw Branch of MTP. It has four issues per year and presents key information about the trade fairs in the upcoming quarter. Poznań Fair Magazine is printed in three language versions: Polish, English and Rus-sian. It is sent to chambers of commerce and industry, economic chambers, embas-sies and industry associations all over the world. Poznań Fair Magazine also has its special trade fair issues (e.g. DREMA FUR-NICA NEWS). It is then sent to visitor groups relevant for a given trade fair.

E-ADVERTISEMENT

Exhibitors can also use advertising space in the form of banners, logotypes and links on the event’s website (www.drema.pl and www.furnica.pl). Trade fair websites receive tens of thousands of viewings annually. You can have your contact details, press informa-tion and photos posted on these websites, as well.

ANCILLARY PERSONNEL

Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie offers exhibitors an opportunity to hire temporary personnel, i.e. hostesses with high command of foreign languages, hostesses/reception-ists and stand supervision. The database

the exhibitors can choose from includes 700 persons, represented by young experienced staff.

TRADE FAIR RADIO

There is a Trade Fair Radio Studio operat-ing on the fairgrounds. Any announce-ments broadcast by the studio are heard in the open trade fair area (outside exhibition halls) and in the Linden Avenue located in a complex of halls 7, 7A, 8 and 8A. The radio can broadcast commercial spots as well as advertisements. We also have available a service of spot recording in English, German and Russian. Prep. (J)

„Conjured from Wood” is a competition ad-dressed to students of secondary schools with woodworking specialisation. Every year, competitors prove that virtually anything can be made from wood. The fact that the under-taking is held under the auspices of the Min-ister of Education proves it plays a great role in promoting woodworking faculties.

During the last edition of DREMA, an exhibi-tion organised at the stand of the Inwestor Publishing House presented works sent by finalists; with every year, their inventiveness and performance quality are higher and higher. In the history of the competition we have had the following items made from wood: a motorcycle, a sewing machine, a wooden schoolbag and a few hundred other objects that defy stereotypical think-ing, reveal creativity of young authors and allow them to show skills they have learnt at school in the field of material selection and production technology. The effort of con-testants is recognized by sponsors of valu-able prizes that went as usual to the best. The winner of this year’s competition was

Paweł Gozdyra from the Basic Vocational School in Garbatka Letnisko for his head-phone made with great precision. The school workshop of the winner was award-ed with TI 115 NOVA tilting spindle shaper sponsored by SCM GROUP POLSkA. The first

runner up was Mateusz Bachanek from the Woodworking Secondary School in Garbat-ka Letnisko with his wooden bike, and the second runner up was Piotr Głąbiak from Wielkopolska Insurgents Complex of Schools No. 1 in Ostrzeszów with his accordion. The creativity of winners has been awarded with FESTOOL power tools and other gifts from TOOLTECHNIk SYSTEM POLSkA.

Regatta of Wood and Furniture Industry

Great sailing funA lot of excitement, a lot of fun and sunny weather: this is the most succinct summary of the 3rd Regatta of Wood and Furniture Industry held on 28 – 30 May in Piękna Góra near Giżycko on Kisajno Lake.

T he competition organised by Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie attracted 18 teams on Omega sailing boats. From early on, the level of rivalry was very high and the competition for a podium position was fierce. On the first day

there was sunny weather and good wind, and on Sunday the wind got slightly stronger, giving sailors a positive thrill of emotions and suntan. Sailors spent their free time after the first day of Regatta with the ”Trzy Majtki” band from Tricity. The band played popular sea shanties; when this marvelous concert was over, they became an inspiration for participants to continue singing on their own.As early as today we would like to invite you to join the next Regatta of Wood and Furniture Industry scheduled for 3-5 June 2011. The competition will be held in Ma-zury on kisajno Lake. This time again we encourage visitors to find accommodation in „Łabędzi Ostrów” holiday centre. You can take part in the Regatta free of charge, provided that you are professionally involved in the wood or/and furniture industry. Accommodation and travel costs are covered by participants. In order to take part in the competition, you need to send a clearly completed registration form to the organiser’s office by 15 May 2011 (inclusive).

In 2011, DREMA and FURNICA exhibi-tors will have a chance to compete for the MTP Gold Medals in a new formula of this prestigious event. The deadline for submitting competition entries has been significantly reduced (lasting until the end of January 2011). As a result, infor-mation about nominated products will be published in advance in the media and in ”Drema Furnica News” magazine, whose 55 000 copies are distributed to visitors together with an invitation to come to Poznań, where the awarded solutions will be presented. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place dur-ing the trade show that always attracts numerous representatives of the media, including both Polish and foreign profes-sional media.

On 28 July shareholders of Międzynarodowe Targi Lubelskie SA at the Extraordinary General Meeting resolved to carry out an additional issue of shares. As a result of this decision, shares of PLN 14m were sold to Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie which has become MTL’s new shareholder. Other enti-ties to take the new shares include MTL’s current shareholders: the Lublin Province Government, which purchased PLN 2m in new shares, and the

Lublin Municipality, which acquired PLN 16.8m in shares in exchange for a non-cash contribution of a 6-hectare property. The current shareholding structure of MTL is as fol-lows: the Lublin Province Government holds 26.5% of shares, the Lublin Municipality holds 42.5 % of shares, Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie holds 30.5% of shares, with the remaining shareholders holding 0.5% of MTL shares.

The decision to expand the shareholding base was made in order to enable MTL’s further development by using the funds from Operational Programme ‘Development of Eastern Poland for 2007-2013’, co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund. The money will be spent on infrastructure development to help develop and strengthen MTL’s position as a trade fair organiser.

The interest generated by the jubilee edition of Budma International Construction Fair (11-14.01.2011) is immense. The exhibitors will comprise both key market leaders and nu-merous companies that have not yet show-cased their offers at Budma.

SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION – INVESTMENT IN THE FUTURE

Next year’s edition will see a change in the fair format, and an extension of the exposi-tion scope. Exhibition themes will cover all stages of a construction proj-ect – from design, earthworks and construction equipment on the site, through structural elements, walls and facades, floor slabs, floors, door and window joinery, doors, roofs, building chemicals and ce-ramic sanitary ware, to finish-ing systems and building management sys-tems. The latter solutions will be displayed as part of the BudShow project known from the previous editions. It will involve the construc-tion – from scratch – of a ”smart house” in one of the exhibition halls, featuring state-of-the-art solutions in the field of computer-assisted electronic control systems.Next year’s special exhibitions will be closely related to the lead theme of Budma 2011, which is ”Sustainable construction – energy efficiency, innovation, safety”. Due to the ex-pected substantial increase in electricity costs, and the EU’s strict policy on the reduction of electricity use and greenhouse gas emissions, both the exposition and the programme of

fair events will mainly focus on one of the key elements of sustainable construction, namely energy-efficiency. Much attention will be paid to modern thermal insulation materials and technologies. Compared with this year’s edition, the subject of energy-effi-ciency will be discussed in even more detail during the special exhibition entitled Passive Construction. This will be Budma’s first such comprehensive presentation of available so-lutions for generating renewable energy for building heating purposes. Diverse business portfolios will be presented by manufactur-

ers and distributors of solar collectors, heat pumps and devices powered by geo-thermal energy. Simultaneously with BUDMA, the second edition of the bi-ennial WinDoor-tech Fair of Machines and Components for Window, Door, Gate and

Facade Production will be held. The show will also be accompanied by the sixth edition of CBS – Sports Facilities, Amenity Areas, Well-ness & Spa – the biggest Polish exhibition de-voted to the sports construction industry.

20 YEARS HAVE PASSED

The first edition of Budma took place in 1992, gathering 283 exhibitors from 10 countries. The 1990’s saw a dynamic growth of the building sector, which translated into a constantly growing num-ber of exhibitors. In order to ensure clarity of the ever-expanding format of the January construction exhibition, and to account for

its increasing specialisation, the decision was taken by Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie to make a distinction between various sub-ject themes and hence organise several in-dependent events. In 2000, the first installa-tion show (Instalacje) and the first exhibition of construction equipment (Bumasz) were organised. In 2008, interior finishing exhibi-tion emerged along with a show addressed to the glass and stone processing sectors (Glass & Stone), while a year later the afore-mentioned WinDoor-tech Fair of Machines and Components for Window, Door, Gate and Facade Production made its successful debut. If all those industries still showcased their offers at a single trade show, the event would now total 3000 companies on an exhi-bition area of no less than 100.000 sq m. At present, Budma International Construction Fair ranks among the leading business meet-ings of the construction sector in our part of Europe. In 2010, the Poznań-based building show attracted 60 000 Polish and foreign visi-tors who had a chance to explore the offers from more than 1300 domestic and interna-tional companies on an exhibition area of 60 000 sq m. Most fair guests were people responsible for making key investment de-cisions, representatives of retail chains and contracting companies.

Tomasz Wojciechowski

During the January trade show, exhibitors will show-case a wide selection of door and window joinery solutions, including the ever-more popular passive windows. The Village of Wooden Houses – a unique exhibition on a European scale – will present cutting-edge solutions applied in wood construction. Model wooden houses employing diverse technologies will await visitors in the outdoor fair grounds. Fair guests

will have a chance to discover their impressive quali-ties and experience the extraordinary soothing atmo-sphere of their interiors. What is important, buildings made of wood are fully biodegradable, and thus truly eco-friendly. The Polish Parquet Industry Association and the Polish Economic Chamber of Wood Industry will co-organise a conference entitled ”Modern wooden floors – mar-

ket, technologies, execution” and special work-shops for parquet layers. A seminar on wood construction solutions is also expected at Budma, focusing mainly on the thermal performance of wood-en houses. A series of presentations entitled ”Modern Carpenter’s Workshop” and Roofers’ Skills Shows will provide an opportunity to see the latest solutions in the field of roofing tools and technologies.

Wood in constructionWood – the traditional eco-friendly construction material – is enjoying a renaissance. The considerable interest in its use in modern construction – especially among private investors – is reflected in the exposition and special events of Budma 2011.

Manufacturers and distributors of machines and components for this sector can show-case the latest, ever-more popular efficient energy-saving technologies – all in one place at one time, during the fair dedicated to the industry. The producers are doing their utmost to meet demanding techno-logical standards, at the same time paying close attention to high quality of machines and components placed on offer. WinDoor-tech is held simultaneously with Budma, which creates a compelling busi-

ness synergy. On the one hand, representa-tives of the window, door and gate sector – exhibitors at Budma – meet customers for their finished products. On the other hand, being visitors to WinDoor-tech, they can look into the broad portfolio of suppliers of manufacturing technologies and com-ponents. The 2009 debut of WinDoor-tech Fair of Machines and Components for Window, Door, Gate and Facade Production received very positive feedback from exhibitors and

visitors exploring the offers. The clearly dis-tinguished exhibition area (ca. 6500 sq m), comprising 130 exhibitors from 29 coun-tries, provided a comprehensive overview of the latest and most efficient technolo-gies applied in door and window joinery production. The portfolios of manufactur-ers and distributors of machines and com-ponents for this sector highlight solutions developed with a view to optimise produc-tion and increase the quality of finished products.

WinDoor-tech Especially for manufacturers of doors, windows and profilesFrom 11 to 14 January 2011 Poznań will host the long-awaited WinDoor-tech Fair of Machines and Components for Window, Door, Gate and Facade Production, which is the only Polish forum for the exchange of professional knowledge between the producers of door and window joinery and their suppliers.

For many years now, EkO-LAS has been an opportunity to present current trends, tech-nologies and new products in the most im-portant sectors of the woodworking market and forest management. On large presen-tation areas, exhibitors showcased forest machinery in operation. At the same time, trade fair areas featured information stands located in wonderful conditions, given the fact that is an open air event.

This year, more than 100 exhibitors came to Świebodzin forest division from Poland, Czech Republic, Finland, Canada, Germany, Italy and Sweden, representing the following sectors: silviculture and arboriculture, tools, machines and devices for logging, skid-ding and wood transport, forest protection means and products, vehicles and means of communication, fire protection in forests, protective clothing and uniform sorts, IT sys-tems, measuring instruments, hunting, tools,

machines and equipment for the timber industry and sawmills, wood products and timber as a raw material.

The goal behind EkO-LAS was to help visi-tors contact manufacturers and sellers of forest machinery from Polish and foreign manufacturers directly and to present differ-ent aspects of a forest life, such as planting, maintenance, logging, transport and hunt-ing, in a comprehensive fashion. However, apart from individual meetings with exhibi-tors, EkO-LAS also means a rich programme of side events. At exhibitors’ stands there were presentations of how harvesters and forwarders work, forest trailers and cranes, log splitters and saws as well as timber load-ing and reloading and logging.

Presentations at stands were supplemented with many panel discussions, e.g. the Forest Forum with its slogan „Man – Forest – Wood”.

The meeting addressed a lot of interesting issues, including forms of different forestry works from the perspective of different groups, new techniques and technologies in forestry works as well as forestry in the con-text of spatial planning. On the first day of the Forum, „Forest Quality Mark” certificates were awarded. This mark promotes products offered on the forestry market. It is awarded to products, services and processes useful for forest management and boasting high performance quality attested by users.

EkO-LAS is held every two years. The upcom-ing three editions will be held in the Lubus-kie Province. Both the idea and location of this event has been endorsed by the Minis-ter of Environment, Director General of State Forests, Lubuskie Province Governor and the Province Marshall, and the event will be held under their auspices.

MEBLE POLSKAInterview with project manager Józef Szyszka •••

The first edition of MEBLE trade fair in a new formula is already behind us.It is true, 2010 was a breakthrough year. The Poznań-based furniture trade fair changed both its time frame and formula. The fur-niture trade fair used to be held in May before. In 2010, upon consultation with exhibitors, we decided to go for February. A beginning of the year is a good time for presenting and promoting new models. It helps one to prepare well for the sec-ond half of the year, when furniture sales reach a year-high, as it has been the case for many years now. A new thing about the previous edition was a formula shift to B2B. As a result, there were no accidental visi-tors at the trade fair. You could fully focus on business contracting.

What are the results of these changes?Positive feedback from exhibitors. What more can you want? (laughs)

So it will be continued.Yes, the upcoming edition will further de-velop the concept that was initiated in 2010. We have received positive feedback about the different date and formula of the show, both from exhibitors and visitors. They all emphasise the need to create a large furni-ture event that will help the industry to grow and will promote it, also abroad.

Do you think Poznań is the best place for such event? It is not just the long tradition of furni-ture trade fairs that speaks in favour of the Poznań-based event; it is also the experience

and international contacts of MTP. What is more, Poznań has good connections to all parts of Europe and the most modern exhi-bition facilities in Poland. You will not find a better place in Poland.

How are you trying to make foreign play-ers interested? We solicit furniture buyers in Europe on a large scale. For them, we have prepared a professional matchmaking programme and a special offer of a visit at the Poznań-based trade fair. Foreign countries are interested in Polish furniture; Poland is the third largest furniture exporter in Europe and the fourth largest in the world. Therefore, the Polish furniture industry needs a large professional event that promotes the achievements of national manufacturers.

An important question: how much will it cost?We are going to keep discount prices next year. The exhibitors may check how com-petitive the offer of the Poznań-based fair is by ordering registration forms at www.meble.mtp.pl. Poznań is friendly to furniture manufacturers. Both as regards professional organisation and pricing.
