Dear Readers,We encourage you to read DREMA FURNICA NEWS magazine which is devoted entirely to the woodworking and furniture industry. It comprises detailed description of events and the programme prepared especially for DREMA International Trade Fair of Machines and Tools for Woodworking and Furniture Industries and FURNICA International Trade Fair of Components for Furniture Production.

A visit to Poznań grants an opportunity to get acquainted with the latest offer of producers and suppliers of technology for companies of various sizes dealing with woodworking and furniture production. During the four fair days the professionals visiting the Fair will have an opportunity to meet the leading suppliers who have a wide offer of well-known and renowned brands. These include a great number of new products entering the market in Poznań. Some of them have been submitted for the competition the Gold Medal of Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie. The new competition formula makes the winners known up to several weeks before the Fair. Interestingly, consumers may vote via the Internet on www.zlotymedal.mtp.pl and on site in the Chapion’s Zone using touch screens.

For professionals, visiting Drema and Furinca fairs is not only an opportunity to get acquainted with the offer of producers from all over the world, but also a chance to get familiar with the latest trends in the industry. Therefore, along with our partners, we are striving to prepare the most inspiring exhibition areas and events. This year we particularly recommend International Scientific and Technical Conference “Hybrid technologies for woodworking tools modification” (28th March 2012 11:00). The conference is organised by the Institute of Mechatronics, Nanotechnology and Vacuum Technique of the Koszalin University of Technology and Poznań International Fair. The conference will enable information exchange and presentation of new solutions and technologies with regards to woodworking tools modification offered by research institutes and producers active in woodworking tools modification.

During FURNICA fair a special exhibition on the design of furniture of largest furniture exporters to the western market will be held. “European design” exhibition will present furniture designs created for the German customer as well as designs made for the Europeans, which sell well in several countries. Leading furniture factories exporting their products to Germany have been invited to cooperate in the project. The exhibition will be accompanied by workshops on design. As always, we cordially invite you to our well-known and popular events: Polish Championships in Nail Hammering, Conjured from Wood competition and Skills Boot Camp. Furniture Factory Live, where cupboards will be made, and thus the intricacies of cabinet furniture production presented, is worth visiting as well.

During this year’s Drema fair DROMA Association 20th Founding Anniversary will be celebrated. This Jubilee will constitute an opportunity to bring back the Association’s renown as a new graphical sign (logo) will be introduced and a new Internet site launched. According to the association’s officials its strategy has changed too, as new members are welcome, including companies from abroad.

DROMA Association of Manufacturers of Woodworking Machinery, Devices and Tools has taken honorary patronage over Drema 2012 fair.

We wish you a pleasant read and encourage to visit Drema and Furnica 2012 Fair at the same time wishing many business successes.

EVENTS

Innovative technologies for woodworking and furniture industries are not the only reason to visit this year’s DREMA and FURNICA fairs, to which we invite you between 27th and 30th March 2012 in Poznań.

The fairs will be accompanied by events du-ring which visitors will have a chance to gain new skills during a specially prepared “boot camp”, take part in precise nail hammering , admire wooden objects of everyday use con-jured from wood by students of secondary and university level schools of woodworking and furniture profile and find interesting solu-tions for floors on parquet workshops.

Skills boot camp

Varnishing has many faces

Skills boot camp is a special area on DERMA fair, which is co-created by Goldman Publi-shing House, the publisher of “Lakiernic-two Przemysłowe” (Industrial Coating) and Poznań International Fair. Skills boot camp visitors will be able to learn the secrets of some of the modern wood varnishing tech-niques, try state-of-the-art equipment and watch the shows of advanced technologies of wood polishing and coating. Those willing to participate will be awaited by dry and water spray paint booths, paint guns, grinding machines and machines for industrial applications with UV light. Skills boot camp offers a wide range of shows

where most modern varnishing and staining methods as well as the effects that can be obtained on wood will be presented. We recommend in particular varnish recovery with brushing machines which fair visitors will be able to see for the first time. Skills boot camp will be open for visitors in hall 5, stand 78.

Polish Championships in Nail Hammering

a major stroke

The 11th Polish Championships in Nail Ham-mering, which is open for the subscribers of “Meblarstwo” and “Gazeta przemysłu Drzew-nego” magazines, will be filled with great emotions.Professionals as well as student take part in it and their objective is to drive 3.5 inch nails into a scantling with five consecutive hammer strokes. The first competitor to suc-cessfully fulfil the task in the final will be the winner. This competition requires great preci-sion in hammer handling, but self-control is indispensable too as even nerves of steel may fail here. Numerous supporters watch this show every year and more and more partici-pants submit to take part in hammering nails, which are provided for the Championships by W&W company. The Champion of Poland selected in the com-petition will be awarded with a prize founded

by Ita Tools and W&W companies. The 11th Polish Championships in Nail Hammering are held on the Wydawnictwo Inwestor stand (no 51) in hall 4. The final is to be held on the last fair day, namely 30th March 2012 at 1.30 p.m.

Conjured from Wood

Wooden rarities

It is the 9th time for the participants of the “Conjured from Wood” competition organi-zed by Wydawnictwo Inwestor and Poznań International Fair to astonish us with ama-zing objects made of wood.Secondary school woodworking profile stu-dents have been invited to participate in the competition. In order to gain the Master title or win an award they need to come up with an original idea and using an appropriate technique make an object, which normally is made of different materials, using wood as source material. It is important that the

object can be used according to its pur-pose and at the same time it needs to be carefully crafted and aesthetically. Previous projects have surprised with their creativity. The winning projects included a wooden terminator, headphones, ball, portfolio and

even a bike. The level of works, as well as the number of submissions, increases an-nually, and so this year one might expect a remarkable exhibition. The student to carry out the most original project and prove to have exquisite knowledge and skills will be awarded with a Festool power tool worth 2000 PLN. Moreover, the school the winning student will represent will be given an F 41 edging machine worth 18 000 PLN founded by SCM company. The winner and other awarded students will get Festool and Po-

tool tools founded by Tooltechnic Systems Polska Sp. z o.o. company. We cordially invite the visitors to see the works in hall 5 on Wy-dawcnictwo Inwestor stand (no 23) during an exhibition which will be open during the all fair days.

Parquet workshops

Parquet jigsaW – no secrets

These workshops, which will certainly inte-rest persons dealing with flooring, especial-ly parquet, will complement DERMA and FURNICA fairs. Associations of Polish Parqu-et Specialists and Poznań International Fair have prepared workshops where the secrets of professional terrace and parquet making will be revealed.A fully equipped work stand with access to a sawing machine, grinding machine, po-lishing machine, vacuum cleaner and best quality materials will be prepared for the visitors. There are no vocational schools for parquet specialists and workshop partici-pants will learn parquet laying technology

intricacies to which even professionals are often oblivious. Furthermore, visitors will be acquainted with novelties such as parquet laying on Farmacell panels and will have a chance to personally assess new products presented by the companies. All works will be commented on by a technical advisor and each day there will be live coverage of the events on www.parkieciarzepolscy.com.pl. Persons willing to participate are invited to hall 4.

This year marks the 20th anniversary of DROMA’s founding - the Association of Machinery, Equipment and Woodworking Tools Manufacturers. The concept of DROMA’s establishment was born in 1991 at the initiative of Andrzej Półrolniczak - at that time a director of the Jaroma State Enterprise based in Jarocin and was addressed to all Polish manufacturers of machinery and woodworking tools.

Most of them were state-owned enterprises that required comprehensive restructuring programs. At the end of 1990, there has been a complete suspension of trade relations in the eastern markets, 40% of which were supplied by those particular Polish manufacturers. The loss of sales markets, the Polish market crisis and the growing import of the machinery from Western Europe all led to an uneven di-stribution of quality resources amongst the Polish producers. The market situation requ-ired profound and complex changes, inclu-ding the reorientation of marketing strategies so that Polish producers could successfully compete in foreign markets. In order to survive this difficult period, it was necessary to under-take joint marketing and promotional actions. On 2 January 1992, a meeting that founded DROMA took place - an Assoction that finally united Polish manufacturers of machinery and woodworking tools. One of the main objecti-ves of the Association was to undertake joint actions in order to adjust Polish woodworking

tools and machines to the requirements of the European markets. This objective was be-ing realized through joint marketing, training and assisting all companies in implementing restructuring programs. The first comprehen-sive presentation of the Association’s joint offer took place at the DREMA Fairs in 1992. One of the most important objectives in this period was to help the Polish manufacturers in obtaining the safety certificates: first the GS, and then the CE, which enabled them to enter markets in Western Europe.Currently, the DROMA Association of Machine-ry, Equipment and Woodworking Tools Manu-facturers also includes both individuals related to the sector of machines and woodworking tools and the majority of Polish manufacturers.

At this point there are 22 supporting mem-bers of the DROMA Association - companies and institutions connected with the machine and woodworking tools industry. Those mem-bers are companies with a long tradition of producing wood-processing machines, all of which were established either in the second half of the nineteenth century, such as FOD in Bydgoszcz, or those companies which were founded during the development of the As-sociation, as OSKA or PROCHERA. The DROMA Association is a member of the European Fe-deration of Manufacturers of machines and ac-cessories for woodworking EUMABOIS, which is bringing together 14 European national as-sociations.The Polish sector of machines and woodwor-king tools has a complete and comprehensive portfolio: the Polish machinery range includes equipment for industries such as forestry, saw-milling, furniture, carpentry and craft, and for wood waste management. The Polish manu-facturers’ offer also includes the design and de-livery of complete factories for the wood and furniture industry. We have planned some 20th anniversary cele-brations that hope to summarize the current achievements of the Association and to ad-dress new developments during the coming DREMA Fair. One of the new strategies of the Association is to open itself up to other com-panies operating in the Polish market of ma-chines and woodworking tools, in order to, amongst others, create a joint promotion of the industry in Poland.

EVENTS

EUROPEAN DESIGNor ‘creative forms of projection’European Design is a series of exhibitions on furniture design organized by the lar-gest exporters of furniture to the markets of Europe. The first exhibition of this series will focus on the German market, and this is due to the fact that the Germans are the main recipients of Polish furniture. In recent years, because of the recession on the local market, export vo-lumes have dropped, so it is important to pay attention to which design elements actually ‘sell’ the furniture. Most furniture factories are already equipped with state-of-the-art machinery, are using the latest technologies, materials and accessories

of the highest quality, plus, the labor costs are comparable. Thus, it is the design of the products that is the distinguishing feature - its originality and fitting into the expectations of the target customers. The ‘European Design’ exhibition will show-case furniture designs, which were originally designed for German customers, but also tho-se that the designers created for other Euro-peans, and sell well in several other countries. The exhibition is not only a simple exposure, but also a place to exchange views and expe-riences. As always, it will be so accompanied by a rich schedule. We invite you to visit this special place.

FlyingBandSaw- magnetic-operated bandsaw An active system of saw blades that uses electromagnets enables greater dimensio-nal accuracy of manufactured lumber and higher performance. This technology re-leases the saw-stress arising from the use of conventional pressure systems. In turn, while cutting timber using a magnetic force (FBS Technology), this solution can increase the tensile stress, which in turn results in an increase of the sawing speed and precision resulting directly in an increased feed rate. Such solutions result in even more precise dimensions of the end-products and also si-gnificantly higher performance.
