Dreams

The tempo of the piece is andante, and a crochet equals to 100. The music depicts my exciting dreams: scary dreams in bars 1 to 6; I was being chased by a rabbit in bars 7 to 11; I was dropped to the ground in bars 12 to 13; I was flying in bars 14 to 16; I was slowly climbing the mountain in bar 17 to 22; a monster was chasing me in bars 23 to 27; and finally I was calm and eventually woke up in bars 28 to 42.

The piece is in modern style. At the beginning, the meter is 7/4, and it was changed to 3/4, 6/8, 7/8, 6/8, 4/4, 5/4 in the piece. I also used quintuplets, sextuplets and septuplets, which were never found in the music before the 20th century. I used 12-tone techniques throughout the piece. The rhythm is very fast and complex, and the harmony is chromatic. The form is through-composed, that means the music is not repeated. I used many ideas in this piece, therefore it is in modern style. The length of this piece is 2’10”.
