The Season So Far

Over the years, motorsport has developed into a successful
industry on the island. One sport that has never failed to attractthe masses is the Drag racing. Competitors from all around theGulf ock to the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) to do battle onthe Drag strip to prove superior of the quarter mile.This year sees new records broken and more created as over6,000 people have attended the 2008/2009 Drag season, thatstarted back in November of last year. Almost 300 cars lined upfor the scrutinizing and check ups before testing their rides onone of the most famous Drag strips in the Middle East. Registeredteams and drivers from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and the
UAE have all promised a erce showdown to mark one of themost exciting Drag seasons in the history of the BIC.
Round one
Along with the all-new timing system,this year, fans have gotten the chance to
witness increased action and intensity as
drivers set new class records and topped
the groups. Returning favorites included
Adel Hassan from Bahrain in the Street
FWD category who set a new class
record of 11.623 seconds for Team KFH.
Meanwhile, Bahrains Sayed Nader Al
Alawi beat Jameel Ebrahim and Ali
Redha in the Street RWD and picked up
a time of 11.472 seconds putting him in
rst place with a new class record as the
opening of Round was coming to a close.
As the smoke began to clear on anight that left the adrenaline rushing
through the blood of supporters, the
Pro Mods stepped up to do battle. Much
anticipation has been built over the
break as Popeye step up to defend their
title on their home soil with Al Anabi
racing from Qatar looking to dissapoint
the home fans. Before the Pro Mods
got toed from their garage to the strip,
Popeye Racing gave media the chance to
get a rst glimpse at their new Blower
car for the very rst time as well as
American driver, Tommy Moonie. Team
Popeye ended the night in second place
next to Robert Von Smith, Al AnabiTeams American driver who set a new
class record of 6.080 seconds in the
category. Ali Aryan nished with a run
of 6.224 seconds as team counterpart
Tommy Moonie nished in third with
6.198 seconds.
Organized by the BahrainDrag Racing Club, under the
Bahrain Motor Federation,
organizers highlighted that with the
new timing system in place, what
used to take two days to complete a
round now can be completed in one
night, this is an indication of the
increasing professionalism and level
of organization going into the Bahrain
National Drag Racing Championship.
