StBrigid’sCatholicPrimarySchool,NerangPolicyThe school uniform at St Brigid’s Catholic Primary School, Nerang performs severalimportantfunctionswithintheoveralloperationoftheschool,including:
• fosteringasenseofschoolcommunityandsharedmission;• increasingasenseofbelongingandengagement;• promotinghealthandsafetyand• encouragingrespectinselfandschool.
Students inuniformalso represent StBrigid’s and thereforeplay a central role in thepresentation of our great school and Brisbane Catholic Education to the broadercommunity.StBrigid’sCatholicPrimarySchool,Neranghasaschooluniformthat isguidedby thefollowingprinciples:
• Subsidiarity: Decisions made regarding the St Brigid’s school uniform areinformedbyconsultation.Inputfromtheschoolcommunityissoughtaspartofaprocessofdiscussionanddiscernment.
• Accountability: The St Brigid’s school uniform is consistent with health and
safety considerations, e.g. sun safe, protective clothing, clothingappropriate tocurriculum activities. The St Brigid’s Student Uniform Policy and Dress Codecomplieswithanti-discriminationandhumanrightslegislation.
• Practicality: The St Brigid’s school uniform contributes to the wellbeing of
students by providing adequate protection from the elements and a degree ofcomfort that allows for fullparticipation inall school activities, includingplay,sportandotherphysicalandrecreationalactivities.
• Affordability: Attention is always given to cost considerations. This includes
durability of the St Brigid’s School uniform materials to reduce replacementcosts. New uniforms will have a staged introduction. Other strategies weendeavourtoconsiderandincludearebulkpurchasing.
• Equity, diversity and choice: St Brigid’s Catholic Primary School, Nerang
provides uniform options or modifications, including shorts and pants, in alluniformcategoriesforallstudents,reflectingthediverseneedsofstudentsandsupportingstudentmentalhealthandwellbeing.
• Responsiveness:StBrigid’sCatholicPrimarySchool,Nerangmakesallowances
foradjustments to theschool’s studentdresscode tocater for specific studentmodificationsorexemptions,forexample,thewearingofclothingthatconformstotheobservanceoffaith.
Thewearing of full school uniform is compulsory andwe see the enforcement of thispolicyasasharedresponsibilitybetweenhomeandschool.

Implementation
1. Therewillbeatwoyeartransitionperiodforthenewsportspolo,runningfromJanuary2020toDecember2021.
2. Yr.6studentscanweartheirSenior’sPolotoschoolinaccordancewithYr.6
teacherdirection.
3. Duringalloutdooractivitiesschoolhatsaretobeworn.Childrenwillnotbeallowedtoplayoutdoorsiftheydonotweartheirschoolhat.
4. OnsportsdaysandPEDaysblack joggersmustbeworn.Anexceptionwill
bemadeonCarnivalDayswherewafflesetc.canbeworn.
5. Ifachildisnotinfull,correctuniform,parentsareaskedtonotifythechild’steacherorthePrincipalastothereasonbynote,bytelephone,byemail orinperson.
6. If a child is persistently out of uniform, a uniform notewill be sent home
withthechildcitingtheaspectoftheuniformthatrequiresattention.
7. Thefollowingappliestothewearingofshoes:• AllBLACK joggers (must have black logo) can be worn for the fiveschooldays.
• Blackleathershoescanbewornwiththeformaluniform.• Blacksportsshoescanbewornwiththeformaluniform.• Blacksportsshoesmustbewornwiththesportsuniform.
8. Thefollowingappliestothewearingofaccessories:
• MEDICALDISCS onchainsandbraceletsarepermitted.• Facialmake-upandnailpolishare NOT permitted.• Fashionjewelleryis NOT permitted.• Digital and/or analogue watches are permitted (no cellular orcamerawatches).
• Simple sleepers or studs (maximum of one pair of earrings)arepermitted.
• NO bodypiercingsallowed – exceptforearlobes.• Areligiousobjectonchainmaybewornundertheuniform.• Sunglasseswornoutsideforsunprotectionareanoptionalaccessorytotheuniform.
9. Thefollowingappliestohairstyles:• Hairistobeclean,brushedandtidy.• Top of Collar length hair or longer, both genders, is to be tied back with
bandsorribbons.• Hairstylesaretobeconservative, NO excessivehairproducts.• NO tinting,colouring,streaking,hairextensionsetc.• NO punkstyles,dreadlocks,tracks,rat-tails,topknotsetc.• Wherestudentfundraisingforacauseorhouseeventsmayimpactstudent
hairstyles,Principalapprovalisrequired.• Hair istobetiedbackwithbandsorribbonsinthecoloursoftheschool –
whiteorgreen.• Hair accessories are to be kept to a minimum and not to be worn as a
fashionstatement.• Our Uniform Shop supplies school coloured and design approved
hairaccessories for purchase - these can be ordered at any timethroughQKR.
