Why we are doing this

Although doing a storyboard and script should outline what the story (narrative) of a short film is.

We thought using an actual narrative theory will make it better for us to plan.

What theory are we using!

We are going to use Freytags Dramatic Arc.

This Arc is used for Drama shows. A social realism film is basically a Drama but in terms of Britain.

Exposition

Our opening will basically introduce Joe’s problem that he did in the past. Which is killing Robert.

Its like Joe is sober from the killing.

He regrets it but feels like he can brush it away.

CHANGES: Nothing has really changed here but the actor playing the Joe role.

Rising action

The rising action will be about Joe succeeding within his education and he feels ready to become a better person and go to university.

He also has a girlfriend, we will see this through a

phone call that Joe does.

The audience will feel as if the short film is about Joe changing as a person. From a typical gangster type to a ‘normal’ teenager who is engaged with their school and social life.

CHANGES: More about Joe’s education will be shown.

Climax

The climax will be that Joe’s past comes back to him, after having a conversation with an unknown person claiming they have to meet because of his actions in the past on his phone. Joe basically gets scared.

The audience should start to feel sorry for Joe as all his hard work may just vanish because of someone messing with his life.

Falling Action

The falling action will be a flashback where the Joe character is running away from the scene and hopes nothing will ever happen to him.

He explains that he knew this day was going to come and he is going to just face it.

This foreshadows his death. Where he gives himself to Jack (Roberts brother) so he can get killed. This section will be shown after the flashback. There will obviously be an confrontation between Jack and Joe.

Denouement

We will see Joe dead and Jack walking off from the scene. We do not know what happened to Jack after the killing of Joe.

Joe will say to the audience how his past came back to him. He is going to try give a message to the audience that the past will come back to anyone and it hurt them. This is the moral of the story. It also teaches young adults that being a like a thug will get you no where in life.
