AP AgTech Summit 2017
Sri. N. Chandra Babu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief Minister,
Sri. S. Chandramohan Reddy, Hon’ble Minister for
Agriculture & Horticulture and Mr. Bill Gates, Co-Chair &
Trustee, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation visited the
exhibition on the final day of AP AgTech Summit-2017
held at Visakhapatnam from 15th to 17th, November,
2017. Sri. Chiranjiv Choudhary, IFS, Vice-Chancellor,
Commissioner of Horticulture & Ex-officio Secretary
(Horticulture and Sericulture) to Govt. of Andhra Pradesh explained about the improved varieties/
hybrids developed by Dr. Y.S.R. Horticultural University in various horticultural crops.
Vice-Chancellor’s Visit
Sri. Chiranjiv Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor along with
Dr. J. Dilip Babu, Director of Research visited HRS,
Chintapalli, Centre of Excellence for Orchids on 16.11.2017.
Reviewed the progress of seed production in turmeric and
ginger, and also inaugurated the Master Pepper Nursery at
Horticultural Nursery & Training Centre, ITDA, Chintapalli.

Educational Tours
South India Educational Tour was conducted from 12th to 23rd Nov,
2017 to Final year B.Sc.(Hons.) Horticulture students of College of
Horticulture, Venkataramannagudem. During the tour the students
visited various ICAR institutes, Research Stations and Colleges of
SAUs under the guidance of Mr. Chinnabbai, Asst. Professor (Ento.)
and Dr. Zehra Salma, Asst. Professor (Hort.).
South India Educational Tour to ICAR institutes, Research
Stations and Colleges of SAUs was organized for B.Sc. (Hons) in
Horticulture students of College of Horticulture, Anantharaju-
peta from 12th to 23rd Nov, 2017 under the guidance of
Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor (Hort.) and Dr. Y. Sireesha, Asst.
Professor (Pl. Path.) .
Awareness Meetings on “Women’s Rights and Empowerment”
A guest lecture to the girl students at CoH, Venkataramanna-
gudem on "Provisions of the Constitution and laws relating to
women’s rights and empowerment" by Smt. Suryamani
Mukharjee, Advocate, Tadepalligudem was arranged on
29.11.2017. Dr. A. Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs in the
presence of Dr.K.Umajyothi, Associate Dean, Dr. P.
Subbaramamma, Asst. Professor (Pl. Physiology) & Member Secretary, WPC, Dr. T. Suseela, Asst.
Professor (Hort.) & Officer-in-Charge Student Affairs and other staff members distributed prize
money to the winners of the competitions held for the girl students on this occasion.
A Guest lecture on “Provisions of the Constitution and laws
relating to women's rights and empowerment” was given by
Prof. Sita Kumari, Head, Chairperson for Board of Studies,
Liaison officer of Legal Matters, Department of Law, Sri.

Exposure Visits
Dr. V. Sudhavani, Asst. Professor (Hort), COH, Venkataramanna-
gudem conducted an exposure visit to the wholesale fruit and onion
market at Tadepalligudem to the students of third year B.Sc. (Hons.)
on 27.11.2017.
Dr. C. Madhumathi, Professor (Hort.) and Sri. Hari Vara Prasad, Teaching Associate (Plant Breed-
ing), College of Horticulture, Anantharajupeta arranged a field trip to second year B.Sc. (Hons) in
Horticulture students to RARS, ANGRAU and Citrus Research Station, Tirupati on 27.11.2017.

Guest Lecture
Sri. Vangirapu Ravi Kumar, Ex-scientist of ISRO and NASA and
Secretary to late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam delivered a guest lecture on
“Personality Development” to the students and teaching Staff of College
of Horticulture, Venkataramannagudem on 28.11.2017.

Research Associate, (Pl. Path), HRS, Anantharajupeta and Smt. G. Sarada, Assistant Professor, CoH,
Anantharajupet along with Horticultural Officer, Department of Horticulture, Rly. Kodur visited
Horticultural Farm of Department of Horticulture, Govt of Andhra Pradesh on 27.11.2017 and
observed severe infestation of gummosis on mango and suggested remedial measures.
Survey and surveillance of diseases in major Horticultural crops in Rayalaseema Zone
During the survey on disease incidence in horticultural crops in Kurnool and Anantapur districts
10-70 % incidence of leaf curl virus in chilli, bacterial blight (75%) in pomegranate, Alternaria blight
(15-20%) in chrysanthemum, wilt (10%) and iron deficiency in curry leaf, anthracnose (10-25 %)
in mango, ring spot virus (15-20 %) and flower drop (60-70 %) in papaya, foot rot (25-60%) in
betel vine.

Vocational Trainings
Two vocational training programmes on “Rubber tapping,
processing and management practices” were conducted at KVK,
Pandirimamidi in collaboration with ITDA, Rampachodavaram
and Central Rubber Board from 13.11.2017 to 18.11.2017 and
20.11.2017 to 25.11.2017. A booklet on ‘Andhra Pradesh Lo
Rubber saagu mariyu Processing’ was released by Dr. R.V.S.K
Reddy, Director of Extension on 20.11.2017 during inaugural
session. About 87 rubber growers from six villages of Maredumilli and Y.Ramavaram have under-
gone training.

Farmers’ Training Programmes
HRS, Chintapalli in collaboration with Spices Board organized three
farmers training programmes on “Scientific management of black
pepper, ginger and turmeric” at HRS, Chintapalli on 17.11.2017, at
ITDA office, Paderu on 18.11.2017 and at Araku on 19.11.2017. Dr. K.
Kandiannan, Principal Scientist (Agro.), Dr. Rajeev, Principal Scientist
(Extn.), Indian Institute of Spice Research, Kozhikode, Dr. Sreekanthan
Thampi, Deputy Director of Spices Board, Guntur, Dr. K. Giridhar, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Lam,
Dr. V. Sivakumar, Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Chintapalli, Dr. K. Ravindra Kumar, Scientist
(Hort.), HRS, Kovvur and Dr. D. Sekhar, Scientist (Agro.), RARS, Chintapalli have participated in the
programme and a folder on “Sugandha Dravya pantalalo Pradhaana Samasyalu- Nivaranaa
Charyalu” was released on this occasion.
A training programme on “Scientific management of black pepper,
ginger and turmeric” was organised by HRS, Chintapalli with
financial assistance from CSS-MIDH-DASD, Kozhikode at Bandha
Veedhi Village, G. Madugula Mandal on 29.11.2017. Dr. V. Sivakumar,
Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Chintapalli and Dr. K. Ravindra Kumar,
Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Kovvur delivered lectures on scientific
cultivation of turmeric, ginger and black pepper with main emphasis on organic cultivation.
Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (PP) & Head, HRS, Mahanandi attended a training
programme as resourse person on “Cultivation of mango” at Obulapuram and “Cultivation of
papaya” at Chinnamalkapuram of Dhone mandal organized by Department of Horticulture on
18.11.2017.
Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (PP) & Head, HRS, Mahanandi attended a training
programme as resource person on “Cultivation of turmeric and chilli” at Chinnavangali of
Chagalamarri mandal and “Cultivation of Flower crops” at Chagalamarri organized by Department
of Horticulture on 21.11.2017.
Dr. M. Tagore Naik, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Mahanandi attended a training programme as resource
person on “Production and protection technology of chilli and tomato” at Jalakanur of Midtur
mandal and “Cultivation of chilli and pomegranate” at Talamudipi of Midtur mandal organized by
Department of Horticulture on 22.11.2017.

programme as resource person on “Cultivation of betelvine, mango and turmeric” at Velugodu and
“Cultivation of vegetable crops” at Kurukunda of Atmakur mandal organized by Department of

Dr. M. Tagore Naik, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Mahanandi attended a training programme as resource
person on “Turmeric cultivation” at Allinagaram of Mahanandi mandal and “Cultivation of chilli” at
Pandurangapuram of Nandyal mandal organized by Department of Horticulture on 30.11.2017.
Dr. R. Rajya lakshmi, Scientist (Hort.) & Head, Mango Research Station,
Nuzvid organized a training programme followed by field visit on
mango at Mango Research Station, Nuzvid on 15.11.2017.

On 24.11.2017, Sri. K.C.Bhanumurthy, Scientist (Hort.), KVK,
Pandirimamidi attended a training programme as resource person on
Canopy management in cashew, acid lime and pomello and explained
about timely pruning of diseased or dried parts for better growth and
good yield over longer periods.
Dr.P.Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl. Path.) & Head, HRS, Venkataramanna-
gudem attended a training programme as resource person on
“Cultivation Practices of Medicinal Plants and Marketing Strategies” at
Markapur, Prakasam district organized by APMAPB, Vijayawada on
22.11.2017.
Dr. P. Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl. Path) & Head, HRS, Venkataramanna-
gudem participated in a training programmes as resource person on
“Betelvine, black pepper and areca nut” at Veerupasamudram village,
Amarapuram mandal, Anathapuramu district on 24.11.2017.
Dr. R. Rajya lakshmi, Scientist (Hort.) & Head, Mango Research Station,
Nuzvid attended training programme followed by field visit on
vegetables as resource person at pallerlamudi village, Bapulapadu
mandal on 22.11.2017.
Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA)
Sri. G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist, (Pl. Path.) along with the scientists of
KVK, Vonipenta visited Sunkulagari Palli village of Mydukur mandal for
Village adoption on 18.11.2017 and conducted Participatory Rural
Appraisal (PRA) to collect information of the village with respect to
structure, resources, trends, group dynamism, interrelation and
interaction with different institutes and problems faced and needs felt
by the people.
Miss. N. Srividya Rani, Scientist (Agrl. Extn.), KVK, Pandirimamidi and Dr. A. Devivaraprasad Reddy,
Scientist (Fishery Science), KVK, Venkataramannagudem attended Model Training Course (MTC)
on “Capacity Building of Extension Professionals on Digital Extension Strategies” from 20.11.2017
to 27.11.2017 at EEI, PJTSAU, Hyderabad. Had exposure to applications in Agriculture and allied
sectors, online library courses, portals available for the farmers, ICTs for empowering farm women,
capacity needs of Extension professionals, e-NAM etc.,
Diagnostic Visits
Sri G. Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem
conducted diagnostic visit to chilli fields at Perampeta and
Pandirimamidigudem on 16.11.2017 and observed infestation of
thrips and root rot. Foliar application of acephate @1.5 g or
fipronil @2 ml/l for control of thrips and drenching of soil with
COC @3 g/l against root rot in chilli was suggested to the farmers.

Dr. T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science) and Dr.A. Devivara
Parasad Reddy, Scientist (Fishery Science), KVK, VRGudem made a
diagnostic field visit to backyard poultry chicks at Venkataramanna-
gudem village on 16.11.2017 and identified that poultry chicks were
infected with Infectious Coryza disease and prescribed tylosine powder
@ 110 mg per Kg body weight and ambiplex supplement @ 5-6 ml for 100 chicks through drinking
water for 5-7 days.
Dr. L. Ranjith Kumar, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Periyavaram visited Pigilam village of Balayapalli
mandal on 17.11.2017 and observed canker in acid lime orchards and recommended streptocyclin
@ 2 gm along with copper oxychloride @30 gm/10 l of water.
On 22.11.2017, Dr. M. Kavitha,, Officer-Incharge along with scientists of
KVK, Periyavaram conducted diagnostic field visits at Dakkili and
Balayapalli mandals and visited fields of acid lime, vegetables and
paddy. In acid lime identified dry root rot and leaf miner and suggested
remedial measures.
Dr. P. Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl.Path.) & Head, HRS, Venkataramanna-
gudem participated in diagnostic field visit of betelvine and arecanut
gardens along with Department of Horticulture officials at Hemavathi,
Uduguru, Maddanagunta, Amarapuram, Tammidepalli, Nagavonahalli,
Revaganapalli, Goudamnagenta villages of Amarapuram mandal,
Anathapuramu district on 23.11.2017. Identified incidence of red mite and white mite for which
spraying of sulphur @ 3g/l and phytophthora foot rot for which application of Trichoderma viride
fortified with neem cake @ 500 grams/vine was suggested. Micronutrient deficiencies for zinc,
boron were identified in arecanut gardens.
Scientists of KVK, Vonipenta visited tomato fields for diagnosis of pests
and diseases at Cherlopalli village of Mydukur mandal on 21.11.2017 and
observed incidence of septoria leaf spot disease for which application of
Mancozeb @ 2.5 g/l or [email protected] g/l was recommended.
KVK, Vonipenta scientists visited bean fields for diagnosis of pests and diseases
at Kesalingayapalli village of Mydukur mandal and observed spotted pod borer
infestation for which recommended the application of profenophos @ 2.0 ml/l
or flubendamide @ 0.3 ml/l or spinosad @ 0.3 ml/l on 30.11.2017
Sri K.C.Bhanu Murthy, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited
banana field var.Grandnaine intercropped with Dolichos bean at
Jagarampalli village of Rampachodavaram mandal on 23.11.2017 and
suggested nutrient management to be followed in Banana.
Progressive farmers from Bhimavaram, West Godavari district visited
KVK and Centre of Excellence for Protected Cultivation, Venkataraman-
nagudem on 27.11.2017 to equip with latest technologies in
horticulture sector. In this visit KVK and HRS scientists explained about
various KVK demo units and KVK activities.

On 22.11.2017 Smt. Suneetha, Research Associate (Home Science) and
Sri. J. Yoga Narasimhulu Naidu, Research Associate (Extn.), KVK,
Vonipenta visited Sunkulagari Palli village of Mydukur mandal for
conducting method demonstration in value addition to tomato and
demonstrated preparation of tomato ketchup to rural women in order
to make them aware about income generation through value addition.
Dr. T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science), KVK Venkataraman-
nagudem conducted PPR vaccination to 235 goats and sheep at
K.Nagampalem village of Polavaram mandal under tribal sub plan on
28.11.2017.
On 26.11.2017, Dr. T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science),
KVK, Venkataramannagudem participated in Cattle Milk yield
competitions and calf rally organized at Pattempalem village in
Tadepalligudem mandal by Department of Animal Husbandry as a part
of Rashtriya Gokul Mission.
General
Visits
Dr. M. Lakshminarayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture visited College of
Horticulture, Parvatipuram on 17.11.2017 and started POS device for
collecting mess fee from students and new tractor.
Dr. K. Kandiannan, Principal Scientist (Agro.), Dr. Rajeev, Principal
Scientist (Extn.), Indian Institute of Spice Research, Kozhikode and
Dr. Sreekanthan Thampi, Deputy Director of Spice Board had visited HRS,
Chintapalli on 16.11.2017 to participate inauguration of Master pepper
nursery at Horticultural Nursery & Training Centre, ITDA, Chintapalli and
also reviewed plan experiments which were executed for the year
2017-18.
Dr. V. Sivakumar, Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Chintapalli explained
the organic cultivation of turmeric and ginger in raised bed method by
following good management practices to the farmers of Vizianagaram
district as part of exposure visit to progressive farmers of
Vizianagaram district organized by Department of Horticulture,
Vizianagaram district on 22.11.2017.
Dr. M. Lakshmi Narayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture visited CoH,
Anantharajupeta on 30.11.2017 and interacted with ELP students,
discussed the norms of the programme and inspected different ongoing
works at College of Horticulture, Anantharajupeta.

Sri. D. Sreedhar, Scientist (Hort.) along with Dr. Y. Sharat Kumar Reddy,
Scientist (Pl. Physiology), HRS, Anantharajupeta explained to the
students from A.P.Model School, Pullampeta about different ongoing
projects, nursery management and cultivation aspects of papaya, guava
and banana during their visit to the research station on 21.11.2017.
Meetings
Dr. R. Nagaraju, Sr.Scientist (Hort.) & Head, along with Dr. K.T.
Venkataramana, Zonal Research Head attended Brain Storming
Session and presented the latest developments and technologies in
the field of Horticulture and other scientific activities of Dr. Y. S. R.
Horticultural University on 22.11.2017 at RARS, Tirupati organized by
Sri. Pradyumna, District Collector and Magistrate, Chittoor district.
Dr. D. Srinivas Reddy, Scientist (Ento.), CRS, Tirupati attended as resourse person on selection of
Fruit Crops in Afforestation programme and avenue crops along with Department Officials at
Chittoor Collectorate on 18.11.2017.
Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (PP) & Head, HRS, Mahanandi participated and acted as
convener during Knowledge Sharing Workshop on “Tropical Fruits, Banana and Pomegranate”
organized by Confederation of Horticulture Associations of India (CHAI), New Delhi at
Anantapuramu on 05.11.2017.

Analysis” organized by NIPHM, Hyderabad on 6th to 10th November 2017.
Dr. P. Ashok, Scientist (Hort.) HRS, V.R.Gudem attended short course training on “Breeding for
resistance to pest and diseases in plantation crops” held form 21.11.2017 to 30.11.2017 at ICAR-
Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Regional station, Kayamkulam, Kerala.
