AP AgTech Summit 2017
Sri. M. Venkaiah Naidu garu, Hon'ble Vice-President of India and Sri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu
garu, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in the presence of Sri. Somireddy Chandramo-
han Reddy garu, Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Sericulture and Agri-Processing and
Sri. Chiranjiv Choudhary, I.F.S., Vice-Chancellor and Ex-officio Secretary to Govt.of A.P. released the
improved varieties developed by Dr.YSRHU at AP AgTech Summit-2017 organized by Govt of Andhra
Pradesh from 15th –17th November 2017. The University has arranged an Exhibition stall along with
Department of Horticulture and displayed the live specimens of varieties and latest technologies
pertaining to smart farming. University officers, Scientists and students attended the deliberations
given by business heads, start-up founders, leading policymakers, and technology experts to promote
innovative ideas for agricultural transformation in the state. The summit ended with the valedictory
address by Mr. Bill Gates, Bill and Melinda Gates foundation and Hon’ble Chief minister, A.P.

Educational Tours
Final year B.Sc (Hons.) Horticulture students of CoH, Venkataramanna-
gudem departed for South India educational tour scheduled from 12th
to 23rd Nov, 2017 under the guidance of Sri. Chinnabbai, Asst Prof
(Ento.) and Dr. Zehra Salma, Asst Prof (Hort.).
A visit to guava nurseries at Kadiadda village for the students of
M.Sc (Fruit science) and B.Sc (Hons.), II year was arranged by
Dr. V. Sudhavani, Asst Prof, Er. B. Chennakesavulu, Asst Prof and
Dr. A. Harsha Vardhan, Asst Prof (Horti), College of Horticulture,
Venkataramannagudem. Students were acquainted with the
techniques of mass multiplication of terminal cuttings of guava.
Fresher’s Day Celebrations
Freshers’ day at College of Horticulture, Anantharajupeta was
celebrated on 09.11.2017. Programme was presided over by
Dr. M. Ramakrishna, Associate Dean, Ananthrajupeta. Dr. K.T. Venkata
Ramana, Zonal Research Head & Principal Scientist, CRS, Tirupati
attended the function as chief guest. Dr. K. Sankar Reddy, Rtd. Associ-
ate Director of Research (ANGRAU) attended the function as a special
invitee.
Freshers’ day was celebrated at CoH, Parvathipuram on
03.11.2017. Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs and Dr. K.
Gopal, Controller of Examinations attended the Freshers’ day
celebrations.
RHWEP Activities
RHWEP students of CoH, Anantharajupeta allotted to CRS, Tirupati
organized an exhibition and Rythu Sadassu as part of RHWE
programme and exhibited models, charts, live samples and value added
products for the benefit of the farmers and also organized farmer,
scientist and students interaction to clarify the field level problems in
cultivation of various Horticultural crops at Adapareddipalli village on
01.11.2017. Rythu Sadassu was presided over by Dr. M. Lakshmi Narayana Reddy, Dean of Horticul-
ture. Dr. M. Ramakrishna, Associate Dean, CoH, Anantharajupeta, Dr. K.T. Venkataramana, Member,
Board of Management, Dr.YSRHU and Zonal Research Head have attended the programme.
Education
Dr. H. P. Singh, Former DDG (Hort.), ICAR and Chairman, CHAI, New
Delhi and Sri. Chiranjiv Choudhary, I.F.S., Vice-Chancellor addressed
the delegates during “Knowledge sharing workshop on tropical fruits:
Banana and Pomegranate” on 05.11.2017 at Anantapuramu. Scien-
tists and Department Officials and Farmers have participated.

RHWEP students of CoH, Anantharajupeta allotted to HRS,
Nandyal organized an exhibition and Rythu Sadassu as part of
RHWE programme and exhibited models, charts, live samples
and value added products for the benefit of the participant farm-
ers and also organized farmer, scientist and students interaction
to clarify the field level problems in cultivation of various Horti-
cultural crops at Mahadevapuram village on 04.11.2017. Rythu
Sadassu was presided over by Dr. M. Lakshmi Narayana Reddy, Dean of Horticulture, staff and stu-
dents have attended the programme.
Rythu Sadassu was organized on 03.11.2017 by RHWEP students,
CoH, Venkataramannagudem at HRS, Kovvur, Dr. B. V. K. Bhaga-
wan, Zonal Head, Dr. D. R. Salomi Suneetha, Associate Dean (i/c),
Dr. Mamatha, Scientist, Dr. Snehalatha, Scientist and Dr. Zehra
Salma, Asst Prof and AD’s representative participated in the pro-
gramme. Students exhibited Horticultural crops and the products.
Active discussions were carried out with the farmers regarding the
latest technologies adopted in farming.
Rythu Sadassu was organized on 01.11.2017 by RHWEP
students of CoH, Venkataramannagudem attached to KVK,
Pandirimamidi. Dr. M. Rajasekhar, Prof & Associate Dean (i/c)
of CoH, Venkataramannagudem, Dr. K. Sesha Kiran Asst Prof
and AD’s representative, Dr. S. Adarsha, Scientist, Sri. Rajasek-
har, Scientist and Sri. N. Srividhya Rani, Scientist of KVK,
Pandirimamidi participated in the programme. Farmers visited
the stalls arranged by the RHWEP students.
Notable Findings
Severe fruit fly and moderate fruit borer damage and
Phytopthora fruit rot on green fruits of guava var. Bihi at
HRS, Anantharjupeta was reported by Smt. T. Nagalakshmi,
Scientist (Pl. Path) .
A Neuroptera predator Micromus timidus Hagen belonging to family
Hemrobiidae was identified and was found feeding on aphids on
Cocoa in Kalavalapalli village of West Godavari district was reported
by Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta
during the roving survey carried out on 13.11.2017 .

Extension Training Programmes
On 06.11.2017, Dr.V.Deepthi, Scientist (Agril Extn.), KVK, Venkatara-
mannagudem organized one day training cum exposure visit to the
horticultural farmers of Guntur district to equip with latest technolo-
gies in horticulture and allied sectors. In this programme a total of 100
farmers have participated. Sri. P. Sivarama Krishna, Hon’ble member
Board of Management, Dr.YSRHU attended as chief guest.
Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension addressed the farmers during
the inaugural session.
Dr. K. Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort), KVK, Venkataramanna-
gudem conducted six days training program on “Friends of coconut
tree” from 06.11.2017 to 11.11.2017 with the help of Coconut Devel-
opment Board. Participants were given training on climbing the coco-
nut tree with the help of machine and also clarified their doubts in
cultivation aspects, pests and diseases.
On 07.11.2017, Sri. G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkatara-
mannagudem conducted a training and awareness programme on
“Safe and Judicious use of pesticides” at KVK, Venkataramanna-
gudem. All the University Officers attended this training programme
and addressed the participants and explained about safe and
judicious use of pesticides followed by a demonstration on safe use
of pesticides.
KVK, Venkataramannagudem organized one day training cum exposure
visit to the horticultural farmers of Odisha state for equipping with lat-
est technologies in horticultural crops on 15.11.2017. In this programme
a total of 40 farmers have participated. Dr.V.Deepthi, has explained
about the demo units and KVK activities.
Sri.M.Ravindra Babu, Scientist (Hort), HRS, Venkataramannagudem
attended a training programme as resource person on “Importance of
mulching and fertigation in vegetable cultivation” at Singarajupalem,
Nallajarla mandal organized by Department of Horticulture and
explained about the advantages of using mulching, drip irrigation and
fertigation in various vegetable crops.
Vocational Training Programmes
As a part of one day training programme for RHWEP students were
taken to Cashew processing unit at Kothapalli village of Gokavaram
mandal and showed the machinery used for boiling, drying and then
cutting of the cashew nut and separation of the kernel from the nut.
Miss N. Sri Vidya Rani, Scientist (Extn.), KVK, Pandirimamidi. has
coordinated the visit on 02.11.2017.

A Vocational training programme on Rubber tapping, processing
and management practices was conducted at KVK, Pandirimamidi in
collaboration with ITDA, Rampachodavaram and Central Rubber
Board, Rampachodavaram from 30.10.2017 to 04.11.2017. The
method of tapping and processing of rubber was explained to the
trainees at Devarapalli village. Dr.A.Srinivas, Sr.Scientist and Head
explained briefly regarding the six days training programme and its
usefulness during the valedictory function.
Diagnostic Visits
Dr.V.Deepthi, Scientist (Agril Extn.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem
conducted diagnostic field visit in cocoa garden on 01.11.2017 and
observed mealy bug infestation and recommended to spray profenophos
@ 2ml/l of water.
Sri. G.Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl Path.), KVK, Vonipenta visited banana
fields on 03.11.2017 at Yerraballi village of Mydukur mandal. During the
visit potassium deficiency was observed and recommended spraying of
sulphate of potash or potassium nitrate @ 5g/l twice at 7 days interval.
Sri. G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl Path.), KVK, Vonipenta visited tomato,
turmeric and paddy fields on 06.11.2017 at Uppugunta Palli, Mydukur
mandal and observed fruit borer damage in tomato, turmeric rhizome fly
incidence and Leaf folder infestation in paddy. Recommended the
spraying of flubendiamide @ 0.3 g/l for tomato fruit borer, soil applica-
tion of carbofuran 3G @ 10 Kg per acre against rhizome fly and
chlorpyriphos @ 2 ml/l for paddy leaf folder.
Sri. M. Ravindra Babu, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Venkataramannagudem
visited capsicum and chrysanthemum crops grown under polyhouses and
shade nets at Rallakunta, Dwaraka Tirumala mandal on 08.11.2017 and
advised the farmer about proper trellising method in capsicum and sug-
gested to spray acetamiprid @ 0.3 g/l against whitefly in chrysanthemum.
Dr. M. Janaki, Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Peddapuram attended as a
resource person to Plant Clinic programme held at Manguturthi Village
of Pithapuram Mandal on November 2nd, 2017 organized by Reliance
Foundation, Kakinada and observed the sucking pests incidence in
most of the vegetable crops, wilt in brinjal and black rot in cabbage
and recommended the control measures for the pests and diseases.
Dr. N.B.V. Chalapathi Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta
carried out field diagnostic survey on 15.11.2017 in Damarapalli village
of Kadiypulanka mandal of East Godavari district for spiralling rugose
whitefly in coconut and suggested its management measures to the
farmers.

On 11.11.2017, K.C.Bhanumurthy, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Pandirima-
midi visited oil palm orchards intercropped with Cocoa at
Vemulakonda village of Rampachodavaram mandal under ATMA
demonstrations (Intercropping of cocoa in Oil palm orchards). Cocoa
seedlings are at vegetative stage and observed leaf eating caterpillar
infestation. Recommended the farmers to go for sprayings with
quinalphos @ 2 ml/l or acephate 1g/l.
Dr. R. Nagaraju, Sr.Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Anantharajupeta
visited newly established Horticultural organic farm at Thondawada
village, Tirupati on 10.11.2017 and suggested suitable techniques in
preparation of Ghana Jeevamrutham and necessary control measures
against nematodes before taking up new Thai guava plantation.
On 15.11.17, Sri.K.C.Bhanumurthy, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Pandirima-
midi visited marigold var.Arka Bangara field (under ATMA Demo’s)
at Rayapalli village of Addateegala mandal. The crop is at flowering
stage and suggested the farmers to harvest the flowers during morn-
ing or evening hours to overcome the field heat and to have better
shelf-life.
On 01.11.2017, Miss S. Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.), Sri Vidya Rani. N,
Scientist (Extn.) and P. Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC), KVK, Pandiri-
mamidi visited redgram var. LRG-52 and blackgram var.LBG-752
fields at Devaram village of Devipatnam mandal. Crops are at
flowering and pod formation stage respectively. Provided critical
On 03.11.2017, Sri. G.Shali Raju Scientist (Ento.) and
Dr.K.Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Venkataramanna-
gudem conducted diagnostic visit in citrus orchards at Dwaraka
Tirumala mandal and observed infestation of leaf miner, citrus
canker, gummosis and wilt. Later conducted off-campus training
programme in citrus at Jajulakunta village, Dwaraka Tirumala
mandal and explained about pest & disease management in citrus.
On 03.11.2017, Sri.G.Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento,), KVK, Venkataramanna-
gudem conducted diagnostic visit in groundnut field at Marempalli village
and observed severe infestation of tikka leaf spot and iron deficiency.
Suggested to spray mancozeb@2 g and carbendazim @ 1 g/l or
hexaconazole@ 2 ml/l or tebuconazole @ 1 ml/l against tikka leaf spot
and spraying of Feso4@ 1% at 30,40 and 50 days after sowing.
On 14.11.2017, Dr.K.Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.), KVK,
Venkataramannagudem conducted diagnostic visit in banana field at
Bangarugudem village and observed that the field was severely
affected by potassium deficiency and suggested to apply 50 gm
nitrogen,50 gm potassium per plant in each split at 45,90,135 and
180 DAP.

On 04.11.2017, Sri. G. Shali Raju Scientist, (Ento.), KVK, Venkatara-
mannagudem conducted diagnostic visit in brinjal field at
Telikicherla village and observed infestation of brinjal shoot and fruit
borer and little leaf of brinjal and suggested to remove the affected
terminal shoots and affected fruits, foliar application of profenophos
@ 2 ml/lit or thiodicarb@ 0.3 g/lit for shoot and fruit borer and
removal & destruction of virus infected plants followed by spraying
of dimethoate @ 2ml/l.
On 04.11.2017, Dr. T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science)
and Dr. A. Devivaraprasad Reddy, Scientist (Fishery Science), KVK,
Venkataramannagudem has conducted Infectious Bursal Disease
(IBD) vaccination camp to 2- 3 weeks old poultry chicks and created
awareness about seasonal vaccination in poultry at Pandugudem
village, Buttaihgudem mandal and K.Nagampalem village, Polavaram
mandal .
On 07.11.2017, Dr. V. Deepthi, Scientist (Agril Extn.), KVK, Venkataraman-
nagudem conducted diagnostic visit in blackgram field at Chodavaram
village and observed incidence of spodoptera, white fly and rust disease
and suggested to spray novaluron@1ml/l for spodoptera, installation of
yellow and blue sticky traps @20 per acre and spraying of tridemorph @
1ml/l.
On 14.11.2017, G. Shali Raju Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramanna-
gudem conducted diagnostic visit in groundnut fields at Chintalapudi
and T. Narsapuram mandals under CFLDs on oilseeds and observed
severe infestation of leaf miner, spodptera, tikka leaf spot, stemrot
and root knot nematode and suggested to install pheromone traps @
4/acre, foliar application of flubendiamide @0.2 ml/l against leaf
miner and spodoptera, spraying of mancozeb @ 2 g and carbendazim @ 1 g/l or hexaconazole @ 2
ml/l or tebuconazole @ 1 ml/l against tikka leaf spot, foliar application of hexaconazole @ 2 ml/l
around the infected plant for the control of stem rot, application of carbofuran 3G @ 10-12 kg/acre
immediately after irrigation against root knot nematode.
On 14.11.2017, G. Shali Raju Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramanna-
gudem visited apiary unit consisting of 200 A.mellifera bee hives and
150 A.cerana bee hives maintained by 50 Bee keepers in acid lime,
coconut+cocoa and oil palm orchards at T. Narsapuram mandal and
explained about the management of bee hives during winter season.
Polam Pilustondi
On 01.11.2017, Dr. V. Deepthi, Scientist (Agril Extn.), KVK, Venkatara-
mannagudem attended “Polam Pilustondi” programme in black gram and
ground nut crops at Neeladripuram and Kunavaram villages organized by
Department of Agriculture, Tadepalligudem and explained the
production technology of pulses.

FLDs
Dr. K. Venkata Subbaiah, KVK, Venkataramannagudem initiated FLD on
“Importance of micro nutrients in acid lime” and also distributed input
Arka citrus special micronutrient mixture to farmers on 03.11.2017.
On 7.11.2017, Dr. V. Deepthi, scientist (Agril Extn.) KVK, Venkataraman-
nagudem visited the turmeric field in Jaggaraochodavaram village. Ap-
plied the neem powder and Trichoderma viride against the rhizome rot
disease.
Dr. E. Karunasree, Senior Scientist & Head, Dr. T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist
(Fishery Science), Dr. A.Devivaraprasad Reddy, Scientist (Fishery
Science) has distributed the Super Napier fodder to the famers under the
technical program of KVK, Venkataramannagudem on 10.11.2017.
Fish fingerlings were released in to the fish pond to demon-
strate composite fish culture under KVK instructional farm on
11.11.2017 by Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension,
Dr.YSRHU along with Dr.E.Karunasree, Senior Scientist & Head,
Dr. A.Devivaraprasad Reddy, Scientist (Fishery Science), Sri. G.
ShaliRaju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem .
On 13.11.2017, Dr.V.Deepthi, Scientist (Agril Extn.), KVK, Venkatara-
mannagudem distributed the critical inputs viz., blackgram seed var.
TBG-104, bio fertilizers, seed treatment chemicals and pre-
emergence herbicide under CFLDs on pulses for the year 2017-18
(rabi) to the farmers from Lakshmipuram village, Dwaraka Tirumala
mandal and explained the varietal characteristics of blackgram
variety TBG-104.
KVK, Pandirimamidi has conducted field day and crop cutting experi-
ments in blackgram var. LBG-752 fields at Devipatnam village on
07.11.2017, by Miss S. Adarsha, Scientist (Ento.) and P. Raja Sekhar,

General
Exposure Visits
An exposure visit to about 100no.farmers from Guntur Dist. was organ-
ized by Dept. of Horticulture, Guntur to Dr.YSR HU campus. Sri.P.Siva
Ramakrishna, Honble Member,Board of Management,Dr.YSR HU accom-
panied the farmers. During this visit, they were explained different activi-
ties of KVK, IPM demonstration plots, Nursery, Apiary unit , live stock
units and other units by Dr. K. Venkata Subbaiah, Sri. G. Shaliraju and Dr. A. Devivaraprasad Reddy,
KVK, Venkataramannagudem on 09.11.2017.

NABARD officials and Co-operative bank officials from AP, Gujarat
and UP states visited College of Horticulture, Venkataramannagudem
on 14.11.2017. Dr. M. Rajasekhar, Prof & Associate Dean (i/c) of CoH,
Venkataramannagudem accompanied them and explained all the
activities going-on in the campus of Dr.YSRHU, Venkataramanna-
gudem.
Twenty one Multi Purpose Extension Officers and Agricultural Officer,
Chagallu from Department of Agriculture, Kovvur division have visited
HRS, Peddapuram on 01.11.2017 and Dr. M. Janaki, Scientist (Hort.) &
Head, HRS, Peddapuram has explained the production technology of
Twenty five farmers of Odisha state have visited HRS, Peddapuram
along with Assistant Horticulturist, Odisha and J.V.R. Satyavani,
Chief Technical Officer (Horticulture), KVK, Kalavacherla on
14.11.2017 and Dr. M. Janaki, Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS,
Peddapuram has explained the production technology of cassava
and sweet potato.
Human Resource Development
Dr. K. Sasikala, Asst Prof (Agron.), CoH, Venkataramannagudem attended ten days training pro-
gramme on “Tools on monitoring, evaluation and impact assessment of rainfed technologies and
development programmes” at CRIDA, Hyderabad from Nov 1st-10th, 2017.
Dr. N. Emmanuel, Asst Prof (Ento.), CoH, Venkataramannagudem attended ten days training
programme on “Emerging tools and technologies for agricultural knowledge communication” at
NAARM, Hyderabad from Nov 1st-10th, 2017.
Dr. K. Sesha Kiran, Asst Prof (Pl. Path.), CoH, Venkataramanna-gudem attended National conference on “Emerging trends in Agri Nanotechnology - 2017” organized by ANGRAU and Society of Agri Nanotechnology held at S V Veterinary University Auditorium, Tiru-pati from 2nd-3rd November, 2017.
Meetings
Dr.P.Rama Devi, Scientist (Pl.Path) & Head and Smt D. Aparna, Scientist (Hort.), HRS, Venkatara-
mannagudem participated in XXV Annual Group Meeting of AICRP on MAP & Betelvine at MPUAT,
Udaipur from 11th-14th November, 2017.
On 01.11.2017, Dr. A. Srinivas, Senior Scientist & Head, KVK, Pandirima-
midi attended Workshop/Sensitization programme for Krishi Vigyan
Kendras of Andhra Pradesh as a part of “Vigilance Awareness Week” at
RARS, Lam, Guntur. In this programme made a presentation on Selec-
tion and reporting of beneficiaries for training programme by KVKs
under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and created awareness to all the
KVK heads. Special Guest Smt. T. SobhaManjari, Addl. Supdt. of Police & Regional Vigilance Enforce-
ment Officer, Guntur and Chief Guest T. V. SatyaNarayana, Registrar, ANGRAU addressed the KVK
heads regarding Vigilance Awareness week.

Twenty five farmers from Kaviti mandal of Srikakulam district visited
HRS, Ambajipeta on 14.11.2017 under Andhra Pradesh Grameena
Sammillitha Padhakam (APRIGP), Velugu DRDA and were imparted
training on the production, protection technologies and value addition of
coconut and cocoa by the scientists and later visited the experimental
plots.
Agriculture Polytechnic students from Pydah College of Engineering,
Patvala, Kakinada visited HRS, Ambajipeta on 15.11.2017 on an exposure
visit and were briefed about the research activities pertaining to crop
improvement, crop production, quality planting seed material
production and plant protection aspects including mass multiplication of
biocontrol agents and their role in pest control.
Dr. G. Ramanandam, Principal Scientist (Hort.) & Head, HRS, Ambajipeta visited the Parasite
Breeding Unit at Sompeta of Srikakulam district and then Amalapadu village and observed the black
headed caterpillar incidence and supplied Bracon hebetor (1000 nos.), Goniozus napantidis (10000
nos.) parasitoids to 6 farmers in Amalapadu village of Srikakulam district for the management of
coconut black headed caterpillar.
