Transcript of Dr. Terri Lee Storseth's Recommendation Letter
February 1, 2010Dear Douglas Musco,It is with great pleasure that I am writing a recommendation letter on behalf of Rena Toutounji.
Throughout the time Rena was with us in the Department of Writing Studies at the American University of Sharjah she exhibited an impressive amount of diligence in all aspects of her work, making a significant contribution to our program of classes. Renas enthusiasm and expertise make learning a stimulating experience. Although she is demanding of her students, she strikes a balance between firmness and flexibility. She spends considerable time and effort exacting high standards from her students, all the while recognizing the scope of their individual strengths and weaknesses. She carefully matches activities and tasks to the capabilities of different groups of learners. Creativity is encouraged and nurtured in the environment she provides. Students attest to the practical guidance she gives both in and out of the classroom to improving their reading and writing. During individual conferences, she ensures that students have clearly understood their problems and how to address them.Rena is an excellent team worker and very pleasant to work with. She is open to new ideas and is well liked by her peers. Likewise, she enjoys a friendly relationship with her students without allowing it to undermine her authority. I often heard her skill as a teacher praised by grateful colleagues who inherited her former students in their courses. The students taught by Rena were among the best prepared and schooled in the department. They became high achievers under her guidance.
I believe Rena would do remarkably well in an administrative role. She is conscientious and utterly reliable. I have no hesitation in recommending her for any university position to which she may apply.
Thank you for your attention.
