While distributing the prizes amongst the winners Dr. Nahar who was chief guest on the occasion said that the awards are like incentives to do better work and urged upon both the teachers and students to keep on trying to do better in their academic pursuits with these awards as an inspiration. She said that these prizes are instituted to encourage and motivate the young students towards the learning of physics discipline and at the same time acknowledge the work of the teachers who have guided the students in acquiring the right kind of education. Vice Chancellor KU Professor Talat Ahmad, in his presidential address urged the teachers as well as students to not only crave for this award but to aim at awards at the national and international level. He advised the students to earn their own scholarships by qualifying the relevant examinations and urged the teachers to bring more projects Prof Talat said that there was already an MOU in place between the KU and Ohio State University USA earlier and he is looking forward to renew that MOU inorder to develop more and strong academic linkages between the two Universities. Dean Academic Affairs, KU Professor AM Shah, while praising the efforts of Vice Chancellor, reminded about the various MOU’s that KU has signed with national and international universities and institutions. He expressed his pleasure on the manifold increase in the number of applications that are received now for admission to P. G. program in Physics. Registrar KU, Professor Zaffar Ahmad Reishi, reminded about the brilliant past of the Physics department and urged the faculty to live upto their glorious past. Earlier, in his welcome address, Head department of Physics, Dr. Manzoor A. Malik, gave an introduction of the current activities of the department and spoke about the purpose of these awards. In all seven prizes were distributed. Professor Javid Ahmad Sheikh and Dr. Basharat Want received the prizes in research and teaching category. Gowhar Hussain received the award in best Ph. D. student category. Nuzhat Nazir and Zahoor Ahmad recieved the award in the best M. Sc. Physics female and male student category respectively. Iqra Jan and Tahir Rashid received the award in the best B. Sc. Physics female and male student category respectively. Later Dr Nahar also delivered a lecture on ‘International Society of Muslim Women in Science’ at Qurat-ul-Ain Girls Hostel KU which was attended by large number of female faculty members, students and research scholars. Srinagar, Mar 13: The annual Sultana Nahar Prizes in Physics introduced and sponsored by
