Dr Paul Taylor is the Director of Music at St Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne –  Australia’s largest cathedral. Following studies with John Hogan in Bendigo, Paul majored in organ at the Australian Catholic University in Melbourne studying with Dr Geoffrey Cox.

In 1993, Paul completed a Master of Arts degree, specialising in liturgy, at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana, USA. His Master of Music degree, completed in 2000, featured a recital of the Great Eighteen ‘Leipzig’ Chorale Preludes of Johann Sebastian Bach and a thesis on Catholic Hymnody in Australia.

In 2010, Paul was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy degree, directed by Dianne Gome, at the Australian Catholic University with a dissertation on ‘The ministerial and congregational singing of chant: A study of practices and perceptions in the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne’.

Dr Taylor is currently serving a term as Executive Secretary of the Bishops Commission for Liturgy of the Australian Catholic Bishops Conference. Paul has also served as an organist and bass chorister at St Francis’ Church, Lonsdale Street, Melbourne and St Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne.

Since completing studies in music and education at the Australian Catholic University, the soprano Larissa Cairns has dedicated herself to sharing these skills with young people, teaching music in Melbourne secondary schools.

Larissa gains great joy from working with choirs and introducing the young voices in her care to works from many genres and styles.

Larissa also enjoys the thrill of sharing in the creation of great choral music with others, and has been a member of Melbourne’s historic St Francis’ Choir since 1994. She has had many opportunities to sing great works by

Mozart, Kodály, Palestrina, Haydn, Rutter, Duruflé, Dvořák, Handel and Saint-Saëns, to name but a few.

Dedicating her singing skills to work in the church, Larissa sings at many weddings, funerals and special church events. She is often called upon to lead workshops and demonstrations on the Art of Cantoring, and she was featured demonstrating her craft in the ABC production Hymns of Glory.
