Dr. McElroy graduated with a degree in Biology from California State University Fullerton, before earning his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Georgetown University in Washington, DC.

One of San Diego’s leading cosmetic and restorative dentists, Dr. McElroy was among the first few doctors in California to be certified to administer conscious sedation. He leads his dedicated team at Smiles By Design in their commitment to being at the forefront of cosmetic dentistry techniques and technology. Dr. McElroy has completed studies at the prestigious Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies and studied nationwide with top clinicians such as Dr. Bill Dorfman of ABC’s Extreme Makeover. He is also a certified member and graduate of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation.

Dr. McElroy plays a hands-on role in charity work, organizing trips abroad to perform free dental surgery, donating to the Wounded Warrior Project and sponsoring local sports teams. He also participates annually in Dentistry From The Heart, providing free dental services to anyone in the community.

Dr. McElroy has practiced in San Diego for 21 years and has lived in Encinitas for 12 years. As a father of four, he is actively involved in children’s sports programs in the area. Away from the office, he enjoys riding motorcycles, attending his children’s sporting events and spending time with his family and his wife, Carla.
