¡Rejoice! For centuries, this Sunday has been called “Gaudete Sunday” because of the first word of the entrance Antiphon (Gaudete in Domino Semper) “Always re-joice in the Lord”. But ¿ how can we remain rejoicing? Joy is God’s reflection, is a gift from the Spirit (Gal 5,22). This Sunday readings give us a good clue on how to be joyful.

The Prophet Isaiah joyfully announces the day when God itself will get close to the poor, to the hart broken, to the prisoner. Jesus applies this passage to himself (Lc 4,18) as a description of his ministry. The clue to be joyful is to give ourselves to other. To help the needy is not just a Christian duty, buy an invitation to let the Spirit act in us.

To serve is an answer borne from love. The responsorial psalm of this Sunday is not taken from the psalms but from the Gospel of Luke, in which Mary having conceived Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit, goes to help her cousin Elizabeth and, there, in the service, she proclaims with joy the greatness of the Lord.

St. Paul Exhorts the Thessalonians not to hold on to this world by being open to the Spirit, faithful to God, and with hope until the day of the second coming of the Lord.

John the Baptist in the Gospel states very clearly that his role is to prepare the coming of Jesus, the Light of the world. John is not the light; his work is to reflect the light of Jesus. Last, if you want to be happy, don’t try to be the center of the universe, be humble and give glory to God.

Mensaje del Director de Vida Parroquial ¡Se Alegre! Por siglos se la llamado a este domingo “Domingo Gaudete”, por la primera palabra de la antífona de entrada (Gaudete in Domino Semper) “alégrense

siempre en el Señor”. Pero, “¿Cómo podemos permanecer alegres?” El gozo es reflejo de Dios, es un don del Espíritu (Gal. 5:22). Las lecturas de este domingo nos dan unas buena pista estar siempre alegre. El profeta Isaías anuncia con alegría el día en que el mismo Dios se acercará al pobre, al quebrantado de corazón, al prisionero. Jesús se aplica este pasaje a sí mismo (Lc 4,18) como descripción de su ministerio. Las pista para ser feliz es darnos a los demás. Ayudar a al necesitado no es solo un deber cristiano, sino una invitación a permitir que el Espíritu obre en nosotros.

Servir es una respuesta nacida del amor. El salmo responsorial de este domingo no está tomado de los Salmos sino del Evangelio de Lucas, en el que María, habiendo concebido a Jesús por obra del Espíritu Santo, va a ayudar a su prima Isabel y ahí en el servicio proclama con alegría la grandeza del Señor.

San Pablo exhortaba a los Tesalonicenses -- no aferrarse a este mundo sino ser abiertos al Espíritu, fieles a Dios y con esperanza hasta el día de la segunda venida del Señor.

Juan el Bautista en el Evangelio deja claro que su papel es preparar la venida de Jesús, la luz del mundo. Juan no es la luz; su trabajo es reflejar la luz de Jesús. Por ultimo, si quieres ser feliz, no trates de ser el centro del universo, se humilde y da la gloria a Dios.
