Welcome to Queenstown,

where the journey is as important as the destination

about

QueenstownSituated in New Zealand’s South Island, surrounded by majestic mountains and nestled on the shores of crystal clear Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown is the perfect backdrop to achieve your education goals.

As New Zealand’s premier four season lake and alpine resort, Queenstown’s stunning scenery, huge range of activities and renowned warm welcome cement its reputation as New Zealand’s favourite visitor destination.

It’s not just our institutions that provide the pathways to a world class education - Queenstown is also the campus, with all it has to offer. As a result, Queenstown is a centre of educational excellence where students’ learning and living experiences are truly enhanced, while surrounded by a thriving centre for business, attracting

international entrepreneurs and innovators.

With providers that are committed to positive outcomes, a community that supports the education industry and affordable accommodation, the educational experience is unparalleled.

The story of people who came to visit, fell in love with the place and stayed is common among those from Australia, Asia, Europe, North and South America. The town has a high cultural awareness, and as such, people from all over the world are able to work and live there without many of the cultural divides that would hamper students in a larger centre.

In Queenstown the educational journey rivals the destination setting - where else in the world would you like to study?

As mayor of Queenstown I am delighted you are exploring what Study Queenstown has to offer international students. I am confident you will find Queenstown to be an ideal educational destination with our combination of a world class location, safe pristine environment, and an exciting and vibrant lifestyle.

Queenstown is a stunning location that has been rated as Australasia’s leading destination (World Travel Awards) and New Zealand’s number one destination (Trip Advisor), in addition to New Zealand being the most socially advanced country in the world (The Social Progress Imperative). With this in mind, I invite you to research this prospectus for the institution and course that will meet your education goals and lead to exciting career opportunities.

Whether you are studying English, secondary school education, higher level vocational training, or a specific graduate qualification, why not make the Queenstown region your classroom. It is also a place where students can form lifelong friendships with their peers, creating strong memories of life in the Wakatipu basin, and also create strong international networks as they learn with people from all over the world.

With a warm and welcoming international study environment, we are committed to ensuring all students enjoy their time in this beautiful part of the world. The accessibility of our international airport, variety of accommodation options, a compact

town centre, and options for any budget make Queenstown an ideal study location.

I personally wish you every success with your education and we look forward to welcoming you here.

WARM & WELCOMING

A large, permanent international population means we have the cultural awareness of a much larger centre, with the international cuisine to match. This international feel and acceptance of other cultures creates a welcoming environment for international students.

EXCITING & DYNAMIC LIFESTYLE

Queenstown’s magnificent natural setting offers endless activities for students and visiting family. Options such as jet boating, golf, exploring the vast local trail network by mountain bike or by foot, skiing and snowboarding or joining one of the many local sports clubs that are available to you, resulting in a lifestyle like no other in New Zealand. Queenstown provides the ultimate student experience.

SAFE, CLEAN & PRISTINEQueenstown has clean fresh air, a strong sense of community and is far from the hustle and bustle and higher crime rates associated with larger cities.

INTERNATIONAL HUBA destination with global connectivity. Queenstown International Airport has undergone almost constant expansion over the past 10 years. During peak seasons Queenstown becomes one of New Zealand’s busiest international airports. Ultrafast fibre internet connectivity in Queenstown and free WiFi in the central business district connects you to the world instantly.

WORK & CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

With an established education industry in Queenstown there is already a range of courses on offer. Being a tourism-based centre there are plenty of employment opportunities for you whilst you study. Post-graduate employment options are outstanding, with a very high percentage of graduates finding work in their field of study, or continuing on to further study both in New Zealand and internationally.

WORLD CLASS SETTINGQueenstown is New Zealand’s premium destination for education, offering world class educational opportunities through a range of education providers, international connectivity and a unique local student lifestyle.

| 11

Page 8: DQ30476 Study Queenstown Prospetus 4...Jack’s West Coast 1. Franz Josef Glacier Guides in action Canterbury 1. Church of the Good Shepherd, Tekapo 2. Lake Pukaki looking at Mt Cook

Queenstown is world famous for being New Zealand’s premier tourist and lifestyle resort, and is a leading student destination with an innovative, vibrant and professional study environment.

live Queenstown

The spectacular scenery and world class activities and attractions allow for a balanced lifestyle while living in Queenstown. Popular adventure activities include bungy jumping, jet boating, sky-diving and white water rafting. For the less adventurous there are plenty of shops, art galleries, vineyards and gardens to visit. Queenstown is also home to six premier golf courses all located within 45 minutes’ drive of the town centre.

Accommodation

Most international students are able to work part time, for up to 20 hours per week while studying. Some institutions also offer the opportunity of full time work during internships.

Imagine studying, living and working in one of the safest and most picturesque parts of the world?

Meals are often included and you’ll find a lively programme of social activities. Some of the institutions also provide private hostels that run in a similar way, and some have self-contained apartments (which we

call ‘flats’).

HOUSE/ROOM RENTAL

(or independent ‘flatting’) Flats range from one-bedroom apartments to four or five bedroom homes, and can be found in most Queenstown suburbs. Most suburbs are accessible by public transport, and flats include basic equipment such as an oven, dishwasher, washing machine and clothes dryer. You and your flatmates will share the cost of rent and usually the phone and energy bills.

Queenstown is very cosmopolitan and is home to people from over 50 countries throughout Europe, Asia, Oceania and the Americas.

With this diverse population comes a rich tapestry of culture and dining opportunities.

Featuring a range of affordable accommodation options for you and your family, including rental properties, student dorms and home stay, Queenstown and the lakes district offer a lifestyle and quality of living second to none.

With a commitment to high capital and infrastructural investment and with high

projected capital growth Queenstown is also an ideal market to invest in real estate.

HOMESTAY

(or private board) With a homestay you live with a Queenstown family in their home, usually in a fully furnished room of your own. They’ll provide you with meals and help you to settle in to day-to-day life in New Zealand. A homestay is a great way to get to know some friendly New Zealanders, develop your English skills and get a close-up look at Queenstown’s

way of life and culture.

HALLS OF RESIDENCE

(or hostels) Accessible by public transport to the campus, halls of residence offer fully furnished single or share rooms with a shared dining hall, lounge and laundry.

As a result of Queenstown’s strong tourism infrastructure as a year-round resort there is ample opportunity for you to secure full time or part time employment in the many hotels, adventure operations, restaurants, cafés and bars. Opportunities also exist to work within the many retail outlets.

Working while studying can be a good way to gain New Zealand work experience and help support you while you’re studying abroad. Gaining experience of a New Zealand workplace also helps you develop skills such as communication, teamwork, timekeeping, interpersonal skills and workplace-relevant English language skills.

New Zealand is a value-for-money study destination, with a cost of living similar to other OECD countries. Check out the costs of everyday living in Queenstown by visiting the New Zealand government website about living and working in

WHAT IS THE CODE OF PRACTICE?

When students come to study in New Zealand, education providers have an important responsibility to ensure that those students are well informed, safe and properly cared for.

To support this, the New Zealand government has developed a Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students (the Code).

The Code is a document that provides a framework for service delivery by education providers and their agents to international students.

It sets out minimum standards of advice and care that can be expected and provides a procedure that students can follow if they have concerns about the treatment they receive from their education provider or agent of a provider.

WHO DOES THE CODE APPLY TO?

All education providers which enrol international students must be signatories to the Code.
