Franklin Town CommonTheFranklinTownCommonwasfirst establishedin1787andwasknownastheCowCommons.It belongedto theCongregationalChurchandwassoldtothetown in1868for$2,500.Todaythecommonisthesiteoffestivals,fairs,farmersmarkets, concertsand impressivewar memorials.

Theoriginalschoolhouselocatedon thissitewasbuiltin1792. It wastorndownandreplacedbythered brickbuildingstandingtoday.T heschoolremainstheoldestoperatingone-room redbrick schoolint heUni tedStates.
Red Brick School House3 Federated ChurchTheoriginalbuildingonthissitewastheCongregationalChurchbuilt in1871.Thechurchwaslost ina fire.ThebuildingwhichnowstandsistheFederatedChurch.Itwas rebuilt between the years of 1893 and1895.

TheUnionStreet Cemetery,datingbacktothe1700's,isthesiteof manyhistoricgraves.M anyImportant people inFranklin'shistory,such asJabezFisher, DavisT hayer,and Dr . O l iver Dean are bur ied in th is cemetery.

The DowntownFranklin HistoricDistrict wasplaced on theNationalRegister of HistoricPlacesin March of 2005 andcontainsover 350 acreswithin theM ain,H igh,Union, PleasantStreets,and Church Square area. The DistrictincludestheTownCommonat thecenterandiscomprisedofover74 buildingsandseveral objectsandstructures. Someof the homesin theDistrict arebuilt in theGreek revival architecturalstyledatingf ro m a s e ar ly a s 1 75 0 t hr ou gh t he m id -1 97 0s.
