Take a trip along the line, into history . . .The Battlefield Line runs on part of the former Ashby & Nuneaton Joint Railway that ran from Nuneaton to Moira and Coalville in Leicestershire.

The remaining part of the line runs through rural Leicestershire countryside that has changed little since the railway opened.

There are three stations along the line, Shackerstone, Market Bosworth and Shenton.

Shackerstone station was the original headquarters of the line and also a junction for trains to Moira and Burton upon Trent or Coalville and Loughborough. The Station now houses a museum, tea room, shop and fund stall. It is also the location of the engine shed and home to most of the railway vehicles.

Market Bosworth Station, originally one of the busier places on the line, is now the site of most of the railways special events.

A short walk from the station is the centre of the picturesque market town, with a range of interesting shops and galleries.

Shenton station epitomises the small rural station that were once common throughout the country. The station contains a small tea room and shop, Richard Golding’s Glassmaking studio and the Station Pottery.

A short distance from the railway is the Battle of Bosworth Visitors Centre that tells the story of the battle where Richard III was killed in 1485.
