SCIENTIFIC CMOS

pco.edge

The 5.5 megapixel sCMOS sensor offers a large field of view and high resolution, without

compromising read noise or frame rate. The read noise in itself is

exceptional, even when compared to the highest performance

CCDs. Only slow-scan CCDs are capable of this level of read noise

performance. High-resolution, slow-scan CCDs are typically

characterized by seconds per frame rather than frames per second

(fps). The fact that the sCMOS device can achieve < 2 electrons

rms readout noise while reading out 5.5 megapixels at 30 fps

renders it truly extraordinary in the market. Furthermore, the

sensor is capable of achieving 100 full fps with a readout noise < 3

electrons rms. By way of comparison, the lowest noise interline

CCD, reading out only 1.3 megapixels at ~ 16 fps would do so

with ~ 10 electrons readout noise. Greater speed is available

through selection of ‘region of interest’ sub-windows, such that the

field of view can be traded off to achieve extreme temporal

resolution. The low noise readout is complemented by a high

dynamic range of 27 000: 1. Furthermore, the architecture

of sCMOS allows for high dynamic range by offering a large well

depth, despite the small pixel size. By way of comparison, a 1.3

megapixel interline with similarly small pixels achieves only ~1800:1 dynamic range at 16 fps.

Main features

- Resolution 2560 x 2160 pixels (5.5 megapixels)

- Extremely low readout noise of 1.1 e- med

Mikrotron MotionBLITZ EoSens® Cube7

Experience the best of both worlds

- A high speed high sensitivity CMOS camera

- 500 images per second at megapixel resolution

With the MotionBLITZ® EoSens®

Cube7, Mikrotron has developed a CMOS

camera with memory that combines high

image speed, high image resolution and

maximum use of available light to ensure

excellent quality for high speed video

recordings. The EoSens® technology is

characterised by an extremely high

photosensitivity (1200 ASA monochrome,

1000 ASA RGB). With this new CMOS

camera, the problem of lighting is no

longer the critical factor – the time and

effort spent on lighting are minimised.

The picture quality of the EoSens® camera is also improved through a pixel-based FPN correction. FPN or

“fixed pattern noise” could previously only be corrected column-by-column. The memory functions of

the MotionBLITZ EoSens® Cube7 have also been further developed. The internal memory records up to

13 seconds at full speed and resolution. In Burst Trigger mode, it is possible to divide the memory into

several thousand sequences in order to make optimum use of it. Burst Trigger mode thus offers a

simplified method for systematically analysing processes: Additional outstanding features of

the MotionBLITZ EoSens® Cube are already familiar from the other Mikrotron high-speed cameras:

Dynamic adapting for extreme bright/dark contrast, maximum performance with minimal dimensions and

large selection of upgrade options.

EoSens® CL

No more attention to the Light - the EoSens® is the first high speed camera with a Photo-Sensitivity

of 2500 ISO/ASA! Achieve data rates of up to 120 fps with base Camera Link Interface or even 500 fps

with full Camera Link Interface at full resolution. Even in low lighting conditions, Eosens provides high

speed images without complex lighting equipment.

Dynamic Range Adjustment of Extreme Contrasts through 2 selectable steps:

The EoSens’ dynamic range adjustment option allows the CMOS sensor’s linear range to approach into

a dynamic range corresponding to the non-linear human eye. Consequently, EoSens® provides definite

image details even in the case of extreme dark-light contrasts, leading to an invaluable benefit in image

processing.

Multiple Pixel Exposure for Indefinite Lighting Conditions:

Pixel exposure can be accumulated up to 7 times, resulting in alternative image exposures. In indefinite

lighting conditions, as in 24h outdoor applications, EoSens® becomes the high speed camera that spots

everything.

MACHINE VISION

Mikrotron EoSens® 3CL

Extremely flexible in resolution and speed:

The EoSens® 3CL meets the requirements for most varied

applications, because resolution and speed are variably

adjustable. A resolution of 1,696 (H) x 1,710 (V) pixels

ensures superb image quality with razor-sharp images. By

free choice of the Region of Interest (RoI), the camera‘s

frame rate can be increased up to 180,000 frames per

second @ 120x1 pixels.

Dynamic Range Adjustment for extreme contrasts:

The camera‘s Dynamic Range Adjustment option allows you to change the CMOS sensor‘s linear range

into a non-linear one. Thus, EoSens® 3CL provides clear details even at extreme dark/light contrasts.

“Freeze Frame” full frame shutter

The EoSens® 3CL features a “Freeze Frame” shutter that is able to process and store a complete frame

while exposing the next image.

HIGH SPEED SMART

Smart High Speed Camera ProcImage 250

High speed camera records direct to PC via USB2.0. Frame

rates up to 252 fps at the full resolution of 640 x 480 pixels is

possible with real time recording on hard drive (compression without

loss)

Based on a motherboard with a Spartan 3 FPGA, a fast SRAM and a

USB2.0 interface, the ProcImage240 performs high speed videos very

simply while offering the possibility of having a smart trigger to

optimize movie capture and embedded processing in real time to

transfer only useful data. Just use a standard PC. No need for specific

acquisition card. It is also possible to record onto the RAM of the

camera and capture images at 640 x 480 pixels resolutions up 252 frames per second and up to 54,000

images per second at a reduced resolution.

Main features:

- Direct recording to PC up to several hours limited by hard drive size.

- The ProcImage 240 integrates an FPGA and an SRAM allowing embedded image processing that

will run in real time between two images, without slowing down the frame rate.

ACCESSORIES

High Speed Filter Wheel

Unmatched Performance

High-performance servo motors featuring rare Earth magnets

coupled with backlash-free power transfer provide ultimate torque

which translates to ultimate speed. Adjacent filter distance is

travelled in as fast as 23ms on the HS-625 model and 30ms on the

HS-1025 and HS-1032 models, while the longest distance (180

degree wheel turn corresponding to three filter positions on the

HS-625 and five positions on the HS-1025 and HS-1032) is

covered in 45ms on the HS-625 model and 90ms on the HS-1025

and HS-1032 models.

Control

The control system not only optimizes the trajectory to result in maximum speed with minimum vibration,

it also adapts to the changes in load. When filters are added or removed, the controller parameters must be

adjusted in order to maintain peak performance. A built-in adaptation mechanism takes care of these

adjustments providing optimum performance no matter what the operating conditions are.

Servo Motor Advantage

Encoder feedback sensors on the servo motors enable reliable operation compared to a stepper-motor-

based open-loop motion system where step skipping may occur. However, the advantages of servo motors

come at a cost of increased circuitry and controller complexity. This is addressed with state-of-the-art

semiconductor components, a high-performance DSP (Digital Signal Processor), and a sophisticated

control algorithm.
