July 16, 2014

Welcome to The Social TV Summit LA, our ninth high level executive conference designed for us all to learn how social media is effecting how we view content, on the big screen in your living room, on your laptop, on your tablet or mobile phone.

Three years ago, to the day, was our first event here in LA. An amazing amount of progress has been made in just three years. And, our Social TV industry has its own Awards Show. Later today our industry will award excellence to the leading players in the fast moving Social TV space. Twenty winners and Best of Show will be announced and receive the STEEVEE, at the 3rd Annual Social TV Awards. Stick around for the fun and cocktails. Congratulations to the winners and all the finalists.

Today we are going to focus on how, as a creative community, we should and can, start to think about Social TV and Audience Participation, BEFORE we develop TV shows or online content. We will start with a visionary keynote speech from Will Keenan, President of Endemol Beyond and then a Fire Side chat with Andrew Wallenstein from Variety and Robert Mills, the ABC Executive in Charge of Rising Star. Audience Participation TV is HOT and will be our theme through out the day. In addition, we will show you how an Audience Participation TV show is pitched and show you some case studies of how media companies and brands are currently executing Social TV campaigns.

Throughout the day we will be asking you to tell us your thoughts, opinions, emotions and sentiment. We believe that the audience is a part of each panel and we want you to interact and be social during these important panels and discussions. So grab a mike, Tweet your thoughts, Facebook your friends and let us know your thoughts.

Thank you for joining us here at Bel-Air Country Club. We think it is the perfect venue to bring together all of the key stakeholders in Social and Participation TV. Learn, network, make deals and move this dynamic industry forward.

Best regards,

Andy Batkin CEO Social Summits, LLC. [email protected]

For over 20 years, David B. Williams has been building companies and producing innovative products and content at the frontiers of digital media. In his current role as Chief Content and Technology Strategist for Endemol Beyond USA, he is leveraging the global assets of the world’s largest independent television production company to develop a portfolio digital-first brands.

Prior to Beyond, he developed and deployed advanced mobile apps to help Maker Studios, Alloy Digital and other leading digital networks own their audiences. In 2008, a company he co-founded was acquired by Disney. At Disney, he was instrumental in creating Take180, an award-winning digital studio and network that blazed a trail on YouTube for today’s multi-channel networks. He also created and produced original programming, and built and ran MyDcast, Disney’s kid-safe user-generated video platform which powered events for Toy Story, Phineas and Ferb and many other top franchises.

Before Disney, Williams developed and patented a technology for “massively social storytelling” to produce a succession of online properties – from In the Motherhood, a series that migrated from the web to ABC primetime, to a Star Trek series starring George Takei and Wil Wheaton, and a series of “fanisodes” based on Showtime’s The L Word which earned an Interactive Emmy nomination. In the late nineties, Williams created and launched the web’s first regularly scheduled animated series, WhirlGirl, which was picked up by Showtime, attracted capital from Viacom, and ran for over 100 episodes.

Born and raised in Manhattan, Williams was educated at Sarah Lawrence College and now lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two sons.
