If jumping into the lake doesn’t appeal to you, maybe you have a need to speed? Discover Wisconsin is host to St. Germain’s Annual Snowmobile Radar Run. Bring it to the lake on Friday night and experience the practice runs on both snow tracks and shaved ice tracks. “Friday Night Under the Lights” includes drag races, fun runs, the Snow Outlaw Top 10 Shootout and hot

air balloon rides. Saturday enjoy fun runs, speed runs, bikini runs, vendor row, hot air balloon rides, Snow Outlaw Racing Finale, trophy presentation and prizes.

The PrimeTimer’s van will be taking guests round trip from the St. Germain Area Chamber of Commerce office to Nokomis Cranberry Marsh, Wine & Gift Shop on Mondays for a Cranberry Bog Tour. The bus will leave the Chamber office at 10:00am and return around 12:00. Cost is $5.00 to cover the bus, the Tour itself is FREE. it’s time to think spring. Martinis in May , on May 7th, brings the

best bartenders from the Northwoods together in a one of a kind

Woods Art Fair on June 11th to St. Germain’s Independence Day

Celebration and Freedom 5k Run on July 3rd. Enjoy Lazy Daze of

Summer Festival, July 14th and Pig in the Pines: Bacon, BBQ and

Bands, August 5th and 6th — there’s lots to do.

This year’s Pig in the Pines will mark our first annual 5k Bacon Dash

& Bacon Bash. Take a break from the lakes, enjoy the beautiful trail

run and a live concert by Road Trip at the finish line of the Bacon

Dash. If you haven’t had your fill of music and everything bacon,

BBQ and pork, come on back Saturday for another full day of live

entertainment, succulent food and rock out with our headliner band

Did you know that St .Germain is the birthplace for Colorama? Our

Colorama celebration on Sept. 19th offers something for all ages to

enjoy including a craft show, farmers market, horsedrawn wagon

rides, “Pints in the Park”, and a Human Foosball Tournament. New

this year is the St. Germain ATV Scavenger Stampede, benefitting

our newly formed ATV/UTV Club. Fall memories continue with over

300 anglers taking to 10 area lakes to compete in the 28th Greater

Wisconsin Muskie Tournament the weekend of Oct. 1st and 2nd.

Start a new tradition with your family and friends and “Jingle in” the

Holidays by participating in our 3k Jingle Bell Walk, Run, Roll or Pull

on Sat. Nov. 26th. This family fun event, which precedes the Lighting

Up St. Germain Holiday Parade is open to walkers, runners, bikers

and those on sleds. A new family tradition for many years to come

“jingle in” with us!

This 5k fun run winds through our beautiful Northwoods trails and finishes at the Pig in the Pines Bacon Bash. Greeting runners playing at the finish line will be Road Trip, a band out of the Oshkosh area known to capture their audiences and show them how to relax and have a wonderful time. Bacon Dash participants will receive a commemorative tshirt and free admission into the Friday Night Bacon Bash live concert. Proceeds from the Bacon Dash will support the St. Germain Beautification Fund and the Bo-Boen Snowmobile Club.

This catch and release competition is hosted by expert fishing guide Rob Manthei, who has a long list of credits to his name. It was a beautiful weekend for the 27th

Annual Greater WI Muskie Tournament

sponsored by the St. Germain Area

Chamber of Commerce and Rob Manthei’s

Guide Service. The tournament winning

catch was a 47” musky caught on Big Arbor

Vitae Lake. Tony Nardi caught this winning

musky, earning him the Marv Heeler

Trophy. The 2nd place musky was a 46”

musky caught on Big Arbor Vitae Lake by

Brent Mischichoski. The 3rd place musky

was a 44” musky caught on Big St .Germain

Lake by Kevin Davies. The winning team

of Andy Grimm and Mike Seager, with an

average of 40.25” sized muskies, caught

their muskies on Big St. Germain Lake.

Team Grimm and Seager’s winning fish

earned them Musky Jack Bohnen Trophy.

The 2nd place team, with 38.5” of average

musky, was caught by the team of Randy &

Hunger Ferguson on Big Arbor Vitae Lake.

The third place team of Dustin Bonack and

Don Bonach caught an average of 38.5”

muskies on Big Arbor Vitae Lake. The

winner of the largest northern was Amanda

Martin, who caught a 36.5” Northern on

Pickerel Lake.

The 27th Annual Greater WI Muskie

tournament was a great success. Three

hundred and twelve anglers on 140 teams

enjoyed two days of fishing on ten area

lakes. Over 23 muskies, 34” or larger

were caught and released and 5 legal sized

northerns were caught and released. Fish

were caught on the following lakes: Big

Arbor Vitae, Little Arbor Vitae, Pickerel,

Lost Lake, Dam Lake Plum Lake and Sand

Lake. Mark your calendars for our 28th

The king of freshwater fish. They are the

top predator and least populated fish in

our lakes. Catch and release is the common

practice these days. It’s known as the fish

of 10,000 casts, but hiring a guide will cut

those odds.

nOrtHern Pike

Wisconsin’s second largest predator fish,

second only to their relative the Musky.

Pike are typically very aggressive and will

feed anytime the opportunity allows. They

prefer weed flats and other ambush points.

WalleYe

The walleye is the largest member of the

perch family and is often targeted for its

table fare. Walleyes can be tough to find,

but when they are located, they typically

cooperate and bite. Bait secret: minnows,

nightcrawlers and leeches, and back to

minnows as the season starts and finishes.

PercH

A small fish that most anglers seek more

for the taste than the tug. Adults average 7

to 10 inches which make it a good fish for

all ages to catch. Perch have a tendency to

congregate in large schools making it a one-

stop spot to catch your dinner.

BaSS

Large and smallmouth bass are brothers,

but like family they do take separate paths.

We have several small backwoods lakes

that offer untapped largemouth fishing,

and several area lakes that offer numbers

to trophy fishing for smallmouth.

NOTE: the season for smallmouth isn’t open

to harvest until the 3rd Saturday of June.

regulations for harvest of largemouth are

different from lake to lake.

PanfiSH

These fish are probably one of the most

popular sport and eating fish in Wisconsin.

Crappies, bluegills, and sunfish are our

most common “panfish”. Probably the most

targeted fish in the spring, and often over

harvested. Remember to take only enough

for a meal and leave some for another day.

Heart Of vilaS cOuntY trail SYSteMThe most used trail is the Heart of Vilas County Trail, also known as the St. Germain Hike and Bike Trail. This 45-mile trail begins in St. Germain and takes you all the way to Manitowish Waters. Visitors from around the country come to use this trail and are never disappointed. It is one of the most beautiful paved trail systems in the Midwest. From experienced riders looking for a challenge to beginners still needing training wheels, this trail is sure to please.

aWaSSa PreServe and HikinG trailThis beautiful trail system, provides level, shaded trails that wander through a forest of mature oaks, maples and pines. Enjoy over 200 acres of trails with three different loops. Awassa Preserve Trails are one of the few wheel chair accessible trails around. The Trails are open to walkers, runners and hikers during the spring summer and fall and during the winter the Trails are open to cross-country skiers, snowshoers and starting in 2016 portions of the trail will be open to fat tire bikers.

fern ridGe trail This trail offers a peaceful ambiance in a secluded forest setting. It’s a great trail for those who are new to the hiking experience or learning to snowshoe. Park benches are provided along the trail so you can rest and enjoy the scenery.

SHannOn lake trailLooking for a place to mountain bike, cross-country ski, snowshoe or hike? Shannon Lake is perfect for you. Trails range

from 2.3 miles to 7 miles long and are ungroomed which provides more of a challenge than other trails in the area. Shannon Lake is a non-motorized lake so if you take the lake loop you can stop at one of the many benches to appreciate the serenity and beauty of the local wildlife.

BrinG yOur Atv — St. GErmAinFall in love with what St. Germain has to offer by exploring with your ATV or Side by Side. Trails and routes will open in late spring/early summer and will span from St. Germain, Eagle River, the Town of Lincoln, Conover and Phelps. The routes/trails are maintained by the St. Germain ATV Club and surrounding clubs. This recreational sport will let you discover the magnificent forests and lakes in a new and unique perspective. Make sure you mark your calendar for September 17th, 2016 to participate in the 1st Annual St. Germain ATV Scavenger Stampede in conjunction with our Colorama Celebration!

DOn’t fOrGEt tO PACk your clubsWhere else can you play golf and see an abundance of wildlife at the same time, all at an affordable price? The St. Germain Golf Club, rated four and a half stars in golf Digest’s “Best Places to Play” in 2008 and 2009, is owned by the Town of St. Germain. This course will challenge the most skilled golfer and provide the more social golfer a wonderful experience.

Don’t have time to play a full 18 holes? Right across the street from the St. Germain Golf Course is The 19th Hole, a par 3

be when the lakes freeze over. Just

drill a hole in the ice (power augers

will be very helpful for this), drop a

line and relax until your fish takes

Sometimes the best part of ice

fishing has nothing to do with

the fish at all. Winter anglers are

rewarded with some of the area’s

most serene rewards: quiet landscapes and glimpses of early morning

light creating the illusion the lakes are covered in shimmering diamonds.

While the temperatures may be cold, there is nothing better on a

beautiful winter day than to fish out in the open with an icy blue sky and

the sun shining down. Driving down the road you will see many lakes

filled with ice fishing shacks or tents to shelter anglers when

the wind blows or the temperatures drop. Don’t let the

cold stop you from enjoying fishing all year long. Most

of the same species can be caught in both summer

and winter. There are also numerous ice fishing

tournaments to participate in during the months of

January and February.

The beauty of the hiking and biking trails take on an entirely different

look for your winter activities. Strap on some cross country skies and

glide through a snow-frosted forest or try out some snowshoes. These

BO-BOEn SnOWmOBilE CluBWelcome to St Germain Bo-Boen Country. The Bo-Boen

Snowmobile Club has been in existence since 1969.

Our club has two Tuckers and a New Holland tractor

pulling our drags. Our team of groomer drivers

maintain a trail system of over 100 miles. We groom

every trail every day, only during hours of darkness.

We feel it is safer for all involved and the trails will

setup better over night when there is less traffic. Our trails

are well marked and our maps are easy to read, this should make

your snowmobiling experience a real pleasure.

The Bo-Boen’s are blessed to have the support of the whole

community. Whether you are staying in our town or just riding

around the area for the day, our community offers plenty of

places to stay, we offer a variety of restaurants & bars to take a

break at, and if you need snowmobile service or parts, we have

several places to choose from. This is what makes St Germain the

Premier Snowmobile destination in Wisconsin. We are known

for our friendly people and our great trails.

There are two events in the winter that you don’t want to miss.

The St Germain Radar Run (Jan 29&30) and the Arrowhead

Groomer Show (Feb 3&4). The radar run gives everyone an

opportunity to run their snowmobile down a shaved ice or

packed snow track in a race for time. Our famous Bikini Run

for Charity featuring bikini clad ladies running against

the clock raising money for charity. The groomer show

brings together manufacturers of grooming equipment

and snowmobile club’s trail bosses from around

the country in one location. If your club needs new

equipment this is the place to be. Our club runs the

food stand at these events.

The Bo-Boen Club is the largest club in Wisconsin with over 775

members. Our members are very generous with their time, they

volunteer to help brush and sign the trails and they man the food

service booths at our fund raising events. We offer a Snowmobile

Safety Class every year the last week of December to educate

and promote safe riding for our young people. If you are around

on Wednesday’s we have two group rides leaving from our

groomer barn every Wednesday at 9:00AM. One group for the

men and one group for the ladies, each group puts on close to

100 miles including stops for lunch. Check out our website for

ROB MANTHEI - PROFESSIONAL FISHING GUIDE My name is Rob Manthei. I live to fish and hunt. Whether it is chasing the elusive whitetail or tangling with the mighty musky, I take the same pride and preparation to endure both. I started fishing when I was two years old, and hunted since I was able at twelve. I have fished the waters of Vilas, Oneida, and Iron counties, in Northern Wisconsin, all of my life. 2016 will be my 24th year in heavy pursuit of the mighty musky. Whether your preference is walleye, musky, or bass I will teach and lead you to the best locations and techniques at that particular time of the year. I am a strong believer in catch and release. All muskies, I feel should be released, and the larger female walleyes (which are the spawners) should be released too.
