What is Down Syndrome??

• A condition in which a set of mental and physical symptoms that result from having an extra copy of Chromosome 21

• This is also called trisomy 21 because there are 3 copies instead of 2, which changes the body’s and brain’s normal development

The Symptoms….

• A common symptom is a flat facial profile, an upward slant to the eye, short neck, abnormal shaped ears, smaller than average, joint looseness, broad feet with short toes, poor muscle tone (hypotonia) and learning disabilities

• People who have down syndrome are at higher risks of developing certain medical conditions, such as congenital heart disease

Accomodations/Modifications

• Limited ability to read, communicate, or understand?• Have someone read or interpret materials.• Demonstrate requirements of the job, rather than using

written orverbal descriptions.• Modify testing requirements• Allow for changes in requirements for timed tests or

written tests.• Allow demonstration of abilities and skills rather than

verbal description

The Love & Learning Program• Our technique and materials (DVDs, audio

tapes, books and computer programs) help Infants and Toddlers with Language and Reading development. We originally developed these materials for our daughter with special needs. Maria exceeded our expectations by being able to speak, read and understand 250 words at 3 years of age and over 1,000 words at 5 years of age. We offer an easily do-able, loving manner of teaching that values the individuality of each child and helps nurture self-esteem.
