Double standards Good Morning to my English teacher and fellow classmates. The topic for my oral presentation today would be double standards. Double standards are the application of dierent sets of rules f or similar situations. A double standard may take the form for instance a certain concept that is applied to a group of people but a taboo to the others. A double standard can therefore be described as a biased or morally unfair application of the principle that all are equal in their freedoms. uch double standards are seen as un!usti"ed because they #iolate a basic rue of freedom$ that all parties should stand equal before the law. Double standards also aect the go#ernment of a society. A person higher in rank% society or social class is f orgi#en too easily for the mistakes they commit. . A double standard #iolates this principle by holding dierent people accountable according to dierent standards. Double standards are usually based on social class% rank% race% age% gender and se&ual orientation 'n regard of this topic% the phrase (life is not fair( may be in#oked in order to mollify concerns o#er double standards.  The concept of double standar ds has long been applied )as early as *+,- to the fact that dierent moral structures are often applied to men and women in society. /or e&ample$ A group of girls sees a male walking through a mall. They think he is attracti#e% and make comments about him and giggle loudly . acceptable. A group of boys see a female walking through a mall. They think she i s attracti#e% and make comments about her labeled as guys who are acting inappropriate% treating the girl like an ob!ect. A woman taking part in humanitarian mob "ghting for children rights or animal rights. he is labelled as o#ersensiti#e but a man is labelled as chi#alrous and caring. After marriage% a married man has the duty to support his wife and the wife doesn0t ha#e to work. This is acceptable but when the same family sur#i#es on her pay check the man is labelled as abusi#e and taking ad#antage of woman. 'n the go#ernment% political "gures are not charged of all their wrongdoings as it will ruin their reputation but a normal citi1en committing the same mistake would be sentenced to the rightful !udgement. A woman who works really hard is labelled as insensiti#e and irresponsible. A man who works really hard at work is labelled responsible and a good husband.

beha#iour but a boy choosing the perfect girlfriend is labelled as choosy and

mean.

As a conclusion% ' would like to say that double standards are the reason why the

world is still facing the threat of war. 2umans should all be treated the same. 3eshould not be biased. 2umans should practice the law of equality among all.
