Page 1: Double Page Spread Analysis

In the top right corner of the right pages it has

the words ‘lady GAGA’ this is to show who the

article is about. ‘GAGA’ is written in capital as

this is what she is more formally known as and

is what she gets mostly called by off her fans.

This double page spread is based on Lady

Gaga, which is why it is the main image used

on the left page. The image is in black and

white which makes the contrast of the image

more attractive. She is staring directly at the

reader with a slight seductive look upon her

face. She is covering her topless self with her

hands although she has a chain like neck piece

on which makes her more mysterious; Gaga is

well know for her outrageous fashion sense.

In the article there is two drop capitals which

stand out as they are a much larger font than

the rest of the text of the page. These two

drop capitals are suggesting to the user that

these two paragraphs are important and

contain something that will be interesting for

the reader.

The right page has the letter L that takes over

the full size of the page in the background. It is

bright red which makes it stands out and is

clearly there as it is the first letter of her

name. The letter is bright red as the logo of Q

is also red which makes it look more

professional.

The article is set out into

columns which make it easier

for the readers to follow and to

understand. By setting it out

into columns it makes the

magazine look more neat and

professional. The text is black

which makes it easy to read on

the white background. These

two colour match the black and

white image on the left page.

In the bottom of the page Q have their logo

which is very small. It is red with a white Q

inside and it makes the pages look more

professional when done this way. The red of

the logo matches the red letter L on the right

page. This makes the pages look set out well

and consistent.

Page 2: Double Page Spread Analysis

Just under the name of the band there is a

slight opening paragraph to the article. The

font size of the text is slightly bigger than the

main article this is so that the readers can

read this and become interested and read on.

This paragraph hypes up the artists and makes

the reader even more interested to find out

more about them.

This double page spread is based on The

Vaccines, which is why there is a very large

image on them spreading over the two pages.

The band are leaning forward into the camera

doing this is suggesting they are trying to lure

you into them. The texture on the image is

quite grungy and this could be done to

symbolise the type of music they produce. It

gives the image an unique and interesting look

to it which could suggest how they are and

how there music is. The blue shapes on the

page contrast with the grungy colour of the

image, they suggest that they are quite

modern as these give the page a modern and

cool kind of effect.

In the middle of the article on the right page

there is a quote. This quote is straight from a

member of the band and the quote is quite

interesting. This quote is larger than the rest

of the text as if a reader was just to glance

they would look at this quote and read it

which would make the article more appealing

to them. This is done so the reader read more.

At the top of the page in black capitals there is

the name of the artist that is being featured.

In this case it is ‘The Vaccines’ who became a

very popular rock band in 2011. The title is the

largest text on the page which shows that

they are the main focus. The article is set into columns

which make it look for

consistent and easy for the

readers to read and follow.

The background of the text is

slightly textured but very light

which makes the black text

stand out quite well. Through

the article there is two drop

capitals suggesting these are

quite important and

interesting parts of the article.

These two drop capitals are

blue which make the colour

scheme consistent and run

throughout the page.

In the bottom of the page NME have their

logo which is very small. It is black which

makes it stand out on the background.

Although it is very small by doing this they are

showing their ownership to the article and

they have some importance to the page. This

gives the magazine a professional look and

makes the pages more consistent.

The way that this article is set out, after the

readers have finished it, it could be used as a

poster. The images used attract the reader’s

attention and make them curious to know

why two big rock artists are in the same article

together.

This double page spread is based on two of

the biggest indie rock musicians to date. On

the left page is an image of Miles Kane and on

the right is the leader singer of Arctic

Monkeys, Alex Turner. Both are very well

known artists and when put together in the

double page spread makes the readers of the

article a wider spread. The main image of the

article is of Miles Kane and Alex Turner. It is in

black and white with a slight textured effect

which makes it more appealing to the

audience. Miles Kane is staring directly at the

readers while on the other hand Alex Turner is

looking away. It creates the sense of attitude;

we are also given this impression as Alex

Turner has his arms folded. At the top of the article there is a small

paragraph which introduces the article. The

main points in this paragraph are highlighting

orange which carry on the orange theme of

the article. At the bottom of this paragraph

the use of the ellipses at the end leads the

readers into wanting to read more.

At the top of the page in black capitals there is

the title of the article which in this case is

‘BEST OF BOTH WORLDS’. This title is orange

and white which creates the colour scheme of

the article. The font is very large which stands

out to the readers on the black and white

image background.

The article is quite short, although

the font size is very small. The

article starts on the left page and

carries onto the right. At the start

of the article there is a drop

capital which is used to show

where the article starts. The

article is set out very neat and

clear through the use of

paragraphs which make it easy for

the user to read. The text is white

which stands out well on the dark

background image.

At the end of the article, there are the names

of the photographer and the author to the

article. Their names are highlighted orange

and are the largest text on the right page

besides the title. This shows to the reader that

they have some importance to the article.
