Dot Day 2012

presented by Casie Jones

A Dot day “do-over”Because I don’t work in the school system, I was faced with the challenge of finding students to be my dots for the day. Initially, the plan was to use my sister’s 5th graders as worthy “dot dayers” but due to standardized test practice, I was forced to find replacements. My four little cousins, though a small little bunch, worked just fine!

The beauty of having differentages is that it shows how

versatile the book is!

Our festivities began with me simply reading the book to them

since none of them had ever heard of it before.

I asked them questions along the way, and they thought it was funny that they were playing “school” at

home.

After discussing what we thought the book was talking about, we then went to the table

to create our own masterpieces!

We talked about how little things can have huge impacts, so we decided to use tiny pom-poms, markers, and paint to make

“bigger pictures.”

In the end, we had caterpillars and bumble bees, and afterwards they decided a pom-pom war was an even bigger accomplishment than anything else! All in all,

dot day 2012 was a huge success!
