Historique, monumental, jamais vu!Les exclamations fusent dans le milieu… Et pour cause : le Grand Palais accueille un événement sans précédent sur la scène freestyle : le RED BULL SKYLINES. Un nom évocateur qui laisse présager une soirée résolument aérienne.

24 DES mEILLEURS RIDERS DE BmX DE La pLaNètE se sont donné rendez-vous sous la plus grande verrière d’Europe le 2 novembre 2012. Pour cette occasion, le Grand Palais a rangé ses tenues de gala au placard et chaussé ses sneakers pour accueillir un skatepark spectaculaire et une compétition du plus haut niveau.Dès lors, le BMX, le vélo culte des années 80s, inscrit au programme Olympique (pour sa version Racing) en 2008, n’a plus de limite...

C’est dans sa discipline la plus spéctaculaire, le park, que le 2 roues urbain et acrobatique si charismatique par sa taille (20“) et ses possibilités, est mis sous le feu des projecteurs au Grand Palais.Terrain de jeu des sports de glisse urbains (skate, roller, BMX), le park (ou skatepark) est une infrastructure préfabriquée reproduisant l’esprit de l’architecture et du mobilier urbains (plans inclinés, rampes, tremplins, escaliers...).Et c’est justement ce park qui a tant fait parler... On l’a annoncé colossal, gigantesque, historique... Il est bien tout cela à la fois. Pour signer une telle prouesse technique, il fallait un grand "shaper ". Références parmi les référence, l’Américain Nate Wessel a conceptualisé un skatepark complètement inédit, mêlant bois et matériaux totalement innovants. L’organisation lui a donné carte blanche pour donner naissance au park de ses rêves, alternant fun boxes (sauts), bowls (zones roulantes très fluides), modules techniques et inédits. Une chose est sûre : ce skatepark n’a rien à envier aux structures des mythiques X-Games, dont Nate est également à l’origine.

Pendant toute une soirée, ceux qui comptent le plus aujourd’hui sur la scène BMX, à l’instar du Canadien Drew Bezanson, du Français maxime Charveron ou du Vénézuélien Daniel Dhers vont donc tournoyer à plus de 8 m du sol, sous la majestueuse Nef du Grand Palais. Ils tenteront les "tricks "(figures) les plus engagés, comme le double back flip ou le 720 double whip, pour gagner les honneurs des 6 juges internationaux qui les départageront.

5 000 personnes sont attendues pour cette grande première. Et les amateurs ne seront pas en reste, invités eux aussi en journée à prendre part à l’événement, à travers des initiations gratuites pour les enfants, des ateliers de perfectionnement avec les pro riders, un park en accès libre pour les pratiquants confirmés, un airbag, des tests matériel, des séances de dédicaces avec les pro riders et des stands partenaires proposant des animations interactives (bornes de jeux vidéo, concours photos, goodies...).

Historic, monumental, never seen before!Exclamations have rung out in the BMX world as the rumor kept on growing stronger... No wonder: The Grand Palais welcomes an unprecedented event on the freestyle scene: The RED BULL SKYLINES. An evocative name which presages a resolutely aerial evening.

24 of thE BESt BmX RIDERS of thE pLaNEt have chosen to meet under the biggest glass roof in Europe on the 2nd of November 2012. For the occasion, the Grand Palais has folded its ballroom dresses back in the closet and gotten into its fresh urban outfit to welcome a spectacular Skatepark, and a competition at the highest level.From then on, the BMX, legendary bike of the 80’s, part of the Olympics since 2008 (in its racing version) knows no limits...

It is in its most spectacular discipline, the park, that the so charismatic (by its size 20"and its possibilities) urban and acrobatic 2 wheels is put under the spotlights of the Grand Palais. Playground of sliding urban sports (skate, roller, BMX), the park (or skatepark) is a prefabricated infrastructure reproducing the spirit of both the architecture and the urban furnitures (steep plans, ramps, springboards, stares...)

And it is precisely this park that has made everyone talk... We already announced it as colossal, gigantic, historic... Well, it is all this in the same time. To sign such a technical feat, we needed an exceptional “shaper”... Best among the bests, the American Nate Wessel has conceptualized an entirely groundbreaking skatepark mixing wood with totally innovative materials. The organizing team gave him “Carte Blanche"to give birth to the park of his dream alternating fun boxes (jumps), bowls (fluid riding areas) and technical and innovative modules. One thing is certain: this skatepark has nothing to envy to the mythical X-Games structures of which Nate is also the designer.

For a whole evening, the most important riders of today’s BMX scene such as the Canadian Drew Bezanson, the French maxime Charveron, or the Venezuelan Daniel Dhers, are going to whirl at more than 26 feet in the air of the majestic center aisles of the Grand Palais. They will attempt to accomplish the most engaging “tricks”, such as the double back flip or the 720° double whip to earn the honors of the 6 international judges who will decide in between all of them.

5,000 people are awaited for this big premiere. And the amateurs are not left behind since they are invited to take part in the event during the day through kids initiations, improvement workshops with pro-riders, free access to the skatepark for the most advances riders, an airbag, bike checks workshops, autographs signing with pro-riders and partners stands inviting to interactive activities (video games spots, a photo contest, goodies...)

Début novembre cette grande institution française change radicalement de registre et déroule le tapis rouge à 24 résidents d’un tout autre style… Qui aurait pu croire que, plus d’un siècle après sa construction, la célèbre verrière du Grand Palais abriterait le RED BULL SKYLINES et son gigantesque skatepark.

a little bit of history…Built for the Universal Exhibition of 1900, similarly to the Trocadero or the Eiffel Tower, the Grand Palais has been conceptualized by four renown architects: Henri Deglane, Louis Louvet, Albert Thomas and Charles Girault.Originally designed to welcome the biggest official artistic events of 1901, the monument has then welcomed many other prestigious events. Classified as an official French historical monument since 2000, the Grand Palais is easily recognizable from far away thanks to its glass roof, which is the biggest in Europe. L E B m X (pour Bicycle Motocross) est un "action sport"né en Californie dans le courant des années 70. Pistes en terre, vagues bétonnées et piscines vides (prémices du skatepark) furent les premiers terrains de jeu et d’expérimentation de ses adeptes pionniers. Popularisé sur toute la planète grâce à sa désormais culte apparition dans le fi lm E.t (la fameuse scène sur fond de lune) rien n’a pu depuis arrêter la propagation de ce sport, aussi appelé bicross en France. Tout d’abord moyen de déplacement et de défoulement pour la jeunesse américaine, le BMX est devenu un véritable mode de vie pour bien des générations, développant une culture visuelle, graphique, musicale et vestimentaire propre, voire une certaine forme d’art. Ce que les américains résument volontiers à l’expression "lifestyle".

the BmX (standing for Bicycle Motocross) is an "action sport"born in California in the middle of the 70’s. trails of dirt, concrete waves and empty swimming pools (premises of the skatepark) were the fi rst playgrounds and laboratories of its pioneers. Popularized all around the world thanks to its now cult appearance in the Stefan Spielberg movie E.T. (the famous scene with the moon on the background) nothing has been able to stop the propagation of this sport since them.First a mean to move around the city and a way to let off some steam for the american youth, BMX became a true lifestyle for many generations, developing its own visual, graphic, musical and clothing culture sometimes turning into art.

Désormais répandu sur tous les continents, le BMX était cet été à

l'honneur des J.O. de Londres dans l'une de ses disciplines, la race. Pratiquée par les adeptes de vitesse et de sensations fortes, la race est la version non-motorisée du moto-cross et la plus courante du BMX! Une grille de départ, 8 pilotes, une piste en terre de 400 mètres aux nombreux virages et bosses, un sprint très technique de 2 minutes… le premier arrivé a gagné !

Comme son nom l’indique, le street est, lui, pratiqué dans la rue, sur tous les

modules détournés qu’elle offre. Le rider se sert de plans inclinés, de murs, de mains-courantes, de murets, d’escaliers, et de toutes autres installations pour réaliser des fi gures. Inspiré directement du skate, le street ne comporte ni règle, ni contrainte… ni limite. Le seul impératif : trouver le bon spot !

Le dirt est un dérivé de la race qui consiste à exécuter des fi gures sur

des bosses en terre lors de contests. Les bosses sont toujours construites par les utilisateurs eux-mêmes. L’amplitude et la hauteur des sauts, ainsi que le degré de diffi culté des fi gures rendent cette discipline très spectaculaire !

Le BmX, c’est aussi le fl atland, sorte de breakdance à vélo… C’est la discipline

la plus artistique du BMX mais également la plus exigeante. Elle consiste à faire des fi gures ou enchaînements de fi gures exclusivement sur un sol plat, le plus souvent en équilibre sur une seule roue. Un seule contrainte : ne pas poser le pied à terre !

Le BmX, c’est enfi n le park ou skatepark, dans des enceintes

offi cielles et uniquement dédiées à cette pratique. Fort en fi gures d’amplitudes et aériennes, le park est un mélange de toutes les disciplines du freestyle. Le principe de ce dernier est de réaliser des tricks sur un ensemble de modules artifi ciels, en bois ou en béton : quarters, curbs, rails, funbox, walls, rampes… Médiatisés par les X-Games, les Gravity Games ou encore le FISE, les parks ont rapidement fait leur apparition dans de nombreuses villes françaises.

Olympics in one of its discipline: the race.Chosen by its followers for the speed and the thrills, the race is the non-motorized version of the moto-cross and the most common form of BMX! A starting grid, 8 riders, a dirt trail of 130 ft with many turns and bumps, a very technical sprint of 2 minutes... the fi rst on the fi nish line wins!

As its name underlines it, the street takes place in the streets using every

possible urban furniture the street offers. The rider uses steep plans, wall, bars, sides of stares and any other installations to performs tricks. Directly inspired by Skateboard, the street does not obey any rules, restraints... or limits. The only important fact: to fi nd a good spot!

The dirt is a by-product of the race, asking the rider to achieve tricks and

moves on dirt bumps during a contest. The bumps are always built by the riders themselves. The amplitude, the height of the jumps as well of the degree of diffi culty of the moves make this discipline very spectacular!

Another discipline of the BMX is the fl atland, a sort of a breakdancing on

a bike… It is the most artistic discipline of the BMX, but also the most demanding. The goal is to achieve moves or combos exclusively on a fl at ground, most of the time on one wheel. One rule: do not put a foot on the ground!

Finally, BMX is also the park or skatepark, only taking place in offi cial

spots dedicated to this sport. With moves and jumps at a certain height, the park is a mix in between all the disciplines you can fi nd within the freestyle. the principle of the park is to perform moves on artifi cial modules, made out of wood or concrete: quarters, curbs, rails, funbox, walls, ramps… Getting more and more coverage in the medias thanks to the X-Games, the Gravity Games or the FISE, parks have quickly emerged in many French cities.

lendemain… la réalisation de tricks, quels que soient leur amplitude et leur degré de difficulté, requiert de nombreuses qualités physiques telles que la vélocité, la puissance, l'explosivité ou encore l'endurance. Classé au rang des sports extrêmes, le BMX impose à ses pratiquants de maîtriser également vitesse, dextérité, précision, sang-froid et équilibre...

Tout d’abord, consistent à glisser le long d'une surface (comme un rail, un rebord ou le bord de la rampe) avec une partie du vélo autre que les roues : pegs (tubes courts fixés en bout d'axe de la roue), manivelles, pédales ou cadre. Dans les grinds incontournables, on retrouve le Double Peg, le Feeble Grind, le Rollercoster Gring ou encore le Predator Grind.

The grinds, consist in sliding along a surface (such as a rail, the ledge or the edge of the ramp) with a part of the bike which is not the wheels : pegs (short tubes fixed to the wheel), handles, pedals or frames. Among the unavoidable grinds, you’ll find the Double Peg, the Feeble Grind, the Roller Coaster Gring or even the Predator Grind.

Elles impliquent bien évidemment que les roues ne touchent pas le sol. Il n’est cependant pas nécessaire de voler à 12 m de haut. Entre Table, Superman ou encore Decade, le choix est vaste!

The aerial tricks obviously imply that none of the wheels touch the ground. It it though not necessary to be 24 feet above! In between Table, Superman or Decade, the choice is wide!

Elles ne sont pas seulement utilisées en flat mais également dans d’autres disciplines du BMX. Elles sont essentiellement basées sur l’équilibre, le plus souvent avec une seule roue en contact avec le sol. Le Bunny Hop constitue le saut de base en freestyle : on décolle la roue avant du sol puis on tire encore sur le guidon pour décoller la roue arrière…

The moves on the ground are not used only in Flatland but can also be part of the other BMX’s disciplines. They are mainly based on the concept of balance, most of the time with only one wheel on the ground. The Bunny Hop is the most basic jump in freestyle riding: we take the nose wheel off the ground then pull on the handle to lift off the rear wheel from the ground.

Pour cet événement sans précédent, les fi gures les plus spectaculaires sont à prévoir…

Les riders repousseront toujours plus loin leurs limites et tenteront de battre leurs records personnels!Parmi une multitude de fi gures principalement aériennes, nous n’échapperons pas aux rotations (180°, 360°, 720°), aux fl ips (Backfl ip, Frontfl ip, Flair) et autres “lâcher de vélo"(Superman), sans oublier les tricks les plus tendances comme le Whip, le Bus ou encore le Decade !

A 180°, le rider et le vélo font un demi-tour pour atterrir en marche arrière. A 360°, le rider et son vélo effectuent un tour complet ; à 720°, deux tours !

les flips THE FLIPS

Pour le Backfl ip, il s’agit de réaliser un saut périlleux arrière, généralement entre deux bosses. Pour le Frontfl ip, on s’essaye à un saut périlleux avant. On augmente la diffi culté avec le Flair combinant un saut périlleux sur le côté (appelé Barren-roll) avec un 180°: on repart donc d’où l’on vient!

For the Backfl ip, the rider with the bike makes a back somersault generally in between 2 bumps. For the Frontfl ip, the rider with the bike does a front somersault. With the Flair, things get harder combining a somersault on the side (called Barren-Roll) with a 180°: we therefore start back to where we came from.

Le Superman porte bien son nom ! Il consiste, quand le pilote est en l’air, à tenir le guidon et tendre le corps et les jambes au dessus de son vélo !

The Superman is a perfect name ! When the rider is in the air, he has to hold the handle and throw his body and legs above the bike !

Avec le Whip, c’est la cadre qui tourne ! Pour le Bus, c’est au tour du guidon et pour le Decade, c’est le rider qui tourne autour de son vélo !

With the Whip, it is the frame that does a circle, as for the Bus, it is the handlebar that does a circle and for the Decade, it is the rider that turns around the bike!

TIME TO RIDE!EN SELLE !For this unprecedented event, the most spectacular tricks

are going to be in order …Riders always push back their own limits, and will try to beat their own personal records! Among the many mainly aerial tricks, we will not skip the different rotations (180°, 360°, 720°), the fl ips (Backfl ip, Frontfl ip, Flair) and other “bike drops"(superman), but let’s not forget the fashionable tricks of the moment such as the Whip, the Bus or the Decade !

Maxime est tout simplement le meilleur rider français, que ce soit en street ou en park… Vainqueur du Fise Experience, ce lyonnais parcourt le monde entre compétitions et segments vidéo. Ceux-ci, d’une rare qualité, font le buzz sur la toile et lui ont permis de se bâtir une belle réputation dans le milieu.

Bas Keep, c’est le style à l’état pur! Son expérience de ramp rider lui donne beaucoup d’amplitude. Bas est en effet capable de beaucoup de choses… Ses tricks, dont lui seul a le secret, sont d’une majestueuse beauté!

Maxime is simply the best French rider in the world both in street and in park...Winner of the Fise Experience, this rider from Lyon spends his time going around the world from contests to edits. And it is those edits, of a rare quality that have been making quite a buzz on the web, helping him to build a stronger name for himself in the BMX world.

Bas Keep is all about style! His experience on the ramp gives him a lot of amplitude. Bas is able to do a whole lot of things... His tricks, that only him knows how to create, are of a majestic beauty.

Drew Bezanson, c’est LA star canadienne du BMX ! Un peu barré mais extrêmement doué et puissant sur son vélo, Drew sait être original et créatif en matières de figures. Aussi bien à l’aise en dirt qu’en park, il a participé aux plus gros évènements mondiaux de BMX les plus prestigieux.

Surnommé "Le Rocker", Ben Hennon est aujourd’hui considéré comme le rider le plus "trash" et le plus surprenant! S’il fait preuve d’une certaine agressivité sur son vélo, Ben est un être calme dans la vie de tous les jours! Sa grande force est d’être, à la fois, très technique, aérien mais surtout capable de créer de nouveaux combos (enchainements).

Daniel Sandoval est une bête de contests! Il réserve toujours un trick plus fou et plus surprenant pour la fin du run. Ce jeune californien, "petit nouveau "sur la scène du BMX, est capable d’assimiler n’importe quelle figure à une vitesse déconcertante.

Drew Bezanson, is THE canadian star of the BMX ! Pretty wild but extremely gifted and strong on his bike, Drew knows how to be different and creative in term of tricks. In ease both in dirt and park, he has been part of all the most prestigious BMX events in the world.

With a nickname such as "The Rocker", Ben Hennon is today seen as the "trashiest"and the most surprising rider! If he shows a lot of aggressiveness on the bike, Ben is actually a quiet man! His biggest strength is to be able to combine a strong aerial technique and an impressive ability to create new combos (sequence of moves).

Daniel Sandoval is a beast of contests! He always keeps the craziest and most surprising trick for the end of the run. This young Californian, "newest thing around " on the BMX scene, is able to learn any new trick at a ridiculously easy speed.

Anthony est connu pour ses énormes figures toujours impeccablement réalisées. L’ancien locataire de Woodward (camp d’entrainement) et gagnant du Dew Tour s’oriente plus vers l’amplitude et est capable de rider la méga rampe, discipline réservée à très peu de riders.

Anthony is famous for his huge tricks always perfectly achieved. The ex-tenant of the Woodward (training camp) and winner of the Dew Tour has been focussing more and more on amplitude and is now able to ride the mega ramp, discipline only allowed to a very few riders.

CoNtESt … a WaY of LIfE ? It has been that way since a long time… I love contests, and everything that goes with them, but there are many other aspects of my sport that I appreciate. I started riding because I loved it, and as it happened I have fun doing contests as well, that is why I kept on going, and frankly, I’m loving it! I can not imagine my life without contests. It is so natural for a human being to put himself in a situation of competition, that I don’t see why things should be different when it comes to BMX. Today still, I do contests by imposing challenges to myself. Always more challenges... The money is another positive outcome of it, but it has never been the main motivation for me. If you only thing you think about is cash, then you are riding for the wrong reasons!

YoUR favoRItE CoNtESt ?I love the Pannonian Challenge, the Masters and the Fise. The X-Games and the Dew Tour are also great events, but things are a little different there.

YoU havE tRavELLED aLL ovER thE WoRLD. What IS YoUR favoRItE CoUNtRY ?Croatia, France, United States, Brazil or even Singapore are some fabulous unique and very special places. But there are many other places where I love going and many that I want to discover!

La CompétItIoN… UN moDE DE vIE ? C’est comme ça depuis un bon moment… J’aime la compétition et tout ce qui va avec, mais il y a d’autres aspects de mon sport que j’apprécie aussi. J’ai commencé à rider parce que j’aimais ça et il s’est trouvé que je prenais vraiment du plaisir à participer aux compétitions donc j’ai continué comme ça et franchement je prends mon pied!Je ne peux pas imaginer ma vie sans les contests. C’est tellement naturel pour un être humain de se mettre en compétition que je ne vois pas pourquoi le BMX serait différent. Encore aujourd’hui, je fais des compéts en me fixant des défis. toujours plus de défis... La compensation financière est un plus, une sorte de valeur ajoutée à l’event, mais ça n’a jamais été la chose la plus importante pour moi. Si tu ne penses qu’à ça, alors tu rides pour la mauvaise raison !

plus prestigieux lieux du monde, il s’agissait de recruter "la crème de la crème". Grands noms de la scène BMX, les 6 juges choisis (5 juges et 1 chef juge) n’ont plus rien à prouver dans le milieu. Retenus pour leur expérience en tant que juges officiels sur les plus gros évènements internationaux ou parce qu’ils ont contribué à donner ses lettres de noblesse à la discipline en tant que riders-pros, ils viennent tous d’horizons différents et ont la lourde tâche de départager d’indépartageables stars du vélo urbain…

L’histoire du BMX repose sur leurs performances et les tricks incroyables qu’ils enchainent depuis les années 70. Paul est également propriétaire du shop Paul’s Boutique aux Pays-Bas et fondateur du site de référence (Fat BMX).

Paul de Jong and his brother Bart are the two most famous "ex-riders"in Europe. The history of BMX is made out of performances and incredible tricks they have been doing since the 70’s. Paul is also the owner of Paul’s Boutique in the Netherlands and founder of the famous web site Fat BMX.

axel jürgens (esp)Axel Jürgens fait partie de ceux qui vont de l’avant et qui poussent le sport dans la bonne direction... Ce top rider, aussi à l'aise en dirt qu'en park, met toute son énergie au service du BMX. Après avoir vécu quelques années à Woodward, aux Etats-Unis, il a rejoint le team de Nate Wessel.Ce dernier l'a inspiré et aidé à fonder ce qui est aujourd'hui le plus grand camp de BMX d'Europe: l'incontournable Eurocamp de Barcelone.

Axel Jürgens is part of the ones that are both ahead and pushing sport in the right direction.... This top rider, who finds himself as comfortable in dirt than in park, throw all the energy he has in BMX. After living a few years at Woodward (BMX training camp) in the U.S., he joined the Nate Wessel team. Les 24 riders participant au RED BULL SKYLINES seront départagés par 5 juges et 1 chef juge et notés selon des critères identiques aux autres compétitions de BMX internationales. Les juges appréhenderont avant tout l’ensemble de la prestation : le style, les figures, l’utilisation du park et la qualité d’exécution. Là où les riders feront la différence, c’est sur la hauteur des sauts, ainsi que sur l’originalité des figures. Aussi, face à un skatepark complètement novateur, les athlètes devront trouver leurs repères, leurs lignes et s’adapter rapidement afin de donner le meilleur d’eux au plus tôt dans la compétition.

6 groupes de 4 riders s’élancent, un par un, dans le park et ont 10 minutes pour réaliser les meilleurs tricks et la meilleure ligne. Chaque rider a cependant un temps additionnel au terme des 10 minutes réglementaires pour réaliser un dernier trick : le « LAST TRICKS » qui lui permet d’accumuler des points supplémentaires. Tous sont notés individuellement. A l’issue du 1er Tour, les 12 meilleurs riders accèdent aux demi-finales.

6 groups of 4 riders will be formed. Each rider will run individually in the skatepark with 10 min to achieve the best possible tricks and and the best possible line. Each rider will also get an additional time after the 10 minutes to achieve one last trick: The « LAST TRICKS» which will allow him to get a higher score. Everyone will be individually graded and ranked. At the end of the 1st run, the 12 best riders will get into the semi-final runs.

Sur le même format, 3 nouveaux groupes de 4 riders prennent le départ et disposent également du « LAST TRICKS » pour marquer des points. Seuls les 4 premiers du classement général accèderont à la finale.

Obeying to the same system, 3 new groups of 4 riders will be on the starting grid, all getting again a « LAST TRICKS » to score more points. The 12 best riders of the 1st run will be then selected to participate to the final 2nd run by groups of 3 riders. Only the top 4 riders of the general ranking will have access to the final.

Les quatre finalistes conservent leur note acquise lors de la demi-finale et tenteront le tout pour le tout lors de cette dernière étape pour tenter de décrocher la 1ère place.• SoSh BESt tRICKS : le meilleur trick de la compétition réalisé sur le module STEP-UP (module inédit !)• BESt LINE : la plus belle ligne de la compétition• RIDERS ChoICE : le meilleur rider de la soirée élu par les riders

un prize money d’un montant total de 25 000 $ sera réparti entre les meilleurs riders de la compétition.

5 judges and 1 judge in chief are going to decided in between the 24 riders attending the RED BULL SKYLINES according the same craterias than the other international contests. The judges will comprehend the whole performance : The style, the tricks, the use of the park and the quality of performance of the moves. The riders will be able to differentiate themselves on the height of the jumps, as much as on the originality of the tricks. Also, facing a totally innovative skatepark, the athletes will have to find their marks, their lines, to quickly adapt in order to give the best of themselves the earliest during the contest.

Outre le lieu atypique où il se déroule, le concept du RED BULL SKYLINES repose avant tout sur le skatepark. A peine l’événement officialisé, le park était déjà annoncé comme le plus gros et monumental jamais construit. Et le shaper Nate Wessel, aidé du rider Drew Bezanson a tenu cette promesse !L’organisation lui a donné carte blanche pour créer le park de ses rêves les plus fous. Inspiré de la rue et de son mobilier, mais traité de manière naturelle, en bois brut, le skatepark du RED BULL SKYLINES est gigantesque et s’étale sur 1 950 m2 sous la Nef du Grand Palais. Ses modules,

uniques au monde sont démesurés et atteignent, pour certains, presque 6 mètres de haut, garantissant un spectacle très aérien avec des sauts pouvant aller à plus de 3 mètres au dessus de la rampe. La rampe principale, la fun box, est au centre et constitue le principal point d’attraction pour le public.L’ensemble de la structure, modules et rampes, est plus large que d’habitude, marquant la différence avec les autres contests. plus gros, plus grand, voilà les mots d’ordre de Nate au grand palais.

Beside the unusual monument in which the event takes place, the concept of RED BULL SKYLINES mainly relies on the skatepark. the event barely made official that the park had been announced as the biggest and most monumental ever built. And the shaper Nate Wessel assisted by the rider Drew Bezanson has kept all his promises!

The organizing team gave him “carte blanche" to create the park of his wildest dreams. Inspired by the streets and its furnitures, but treated with natural materials such as crude wood, the skatepark of the

RED BULL SKYLINES is simply gigantic, spreading on 6397 ft2 under the Nave of the Grand Palais. Its unique modules in the world are oversized and will reach for some a height of 22 ft, securing a most aerial show, allowing jumps as high as 10 feet above the ramp. The main ramp, the fun box, is at the center and will constitute the main attraction spot for the audience.

X-Games, réputés jusqu’alors pour être les plus spectaculaires et aboutis. Nathan "Nate"Wessel est américain. Il est tombé dans la marmite BMX tout jeune. Âgé de 36 ans, il a 15 ans de compétition au compteur en street et en park. Il figure dans des vidéos de référence comme Props Road Fools, Etnies Forward, Square One ou encore Demolition… On peut même retrouver ce joyeux rasta dans le jeu vidéo Mat Hoffman’s Pro!Aujourd’hui, il a troqué sa casquette de rider pour celle d’architecte de parks ou plutôt de"shaper"comme on dit dans le milieu. He has been part of the conception of the Woodward Camp Ramps (training camp) and has designed parks for some of the most important events of BMX from the Gravity Games to the Vans Triple Crown or the Backyard Jam, the Nike 6.0 and the MSS events. He also

has directed the construction of the biggest skatepark in the world in China (Chenga World). As an anecdote, he has even been sent to Iraq to organize some shows to support the American troops. As you have understood, Nate is everywhere... Unavoidable...
