EASY DOS PREOP

Quicksteps for DOS Preop

• Obtain an Anesthesia Preop evaluation form & open the patient’s chart in Star panel.

• Open DOS Preop from VPIMS Application suite.

• Choose the record from the patient select screen and select “Open Case”

• The OR Case, date/time, length and OR location will auto-fill into the record. Enter the preop site (DOS), preop evaluator, surgeon and patient status, if applicable.

• Next select the diagnosis tab and type in the diagnosis in the text field labeled “Other/Comments (procedures).

• When you open the procedure tab, the information will auto-populate from the OR schedule.

• Enter medication list and allergies, if applicable.

• Complete medical history by clicking through the review of systems from buttons on right. Hint: Select the

green button if no significant disease is present to chart by exception.

• Enter previous anesthetic history (Hint: Use info from a recent anesthesia record in Star if available)

• Physical Exam: Visit patient and make notes on paper anesthesia evaluation form.

• Select “Post latest lab w/o viewing” button to auto populate the fields. Click “Lab values confirmed” after reviewing for accuracy.

• Risk Assessment: Fill in ASA Class and SRF as appropriate. Click the close button and check “yes” to sign off on the Risk & Benefits.

• CV and Pulmonary Testing: Copy and paste test interpretation results from Star panel if available.

• The “Review Case” button will prompt a report preview.

• “Close w/o locking” - Select this tab if you need to exit and return to complete the DOS.

• When record is completed, select “Submit/Lock case.” This will send it to Star Panel.
