'Did you know that the average Maroondah household sends almost 9kg of waste to landfill every week? Add to this the fact that the decomposition of this landfill represents 3% of all Australia's greenhouse gas emissions and we have a picture of a largely unnecessary problem. Over the next weeks Transition Towns Maroondah will help you reduce and recycle your waste. Please watch this space!'

Secondary Transition News Update

Many students and parents are asking me when they will be

notified of the outcome of their secondary school

applications. You will receive a letter on Monday August

19th advising you of this.

This week’s tip: Discuss how your child’s daily life may

change, for example, starting to use public transport

independently. Research your options and make

decisions together. Plan to take a trial run of their route

to and from school together so they feel comfortable with

next year’s travel plans.

Regards, Sarah Tilley – Transition Co-ordinator

INTER SCHOOL SPORT

Inter school sport has now finished for the year.

Thank you to all students who participated.

kiwi fruit to go with the apple pikelets.

Dear Parents, Welcome back to term 3 the ‘Production” term! I hope everyone had a restful break ready for the upcoming events this term. Unfortunately Mr J’s not well at the moment so please do not hesitate if you have any concerns to see myself, Justin or Steve. New Item At school council last term it was decided to add a girl’s tunic to our uniform. The tunic starts at size 4 and goes to a size 10 ($48.95). From size 12 a winter skirt is available ($59.95). The culottes are not part of our uniform. I realise some parents have already purchased this item and it is not expected that they be returned/not worn. However they are no longer available. The skort is not part of our uniform and we ask that parents support us with this. PD Day On Saturday the staff of Dorset Primary School will be working on the new AUSVELS curriculum that needs to be implemented. We are looking forward to a ’full on’ day revamping our schools curriculum and programs. Nude Food The Nude Food Initiative begins today. Thanks Mrs Thomassen and her enthusiastic team for introducing this to our school. I hope it was not too challenging to be creative and be ‘nude’ in the lunch boxes. Book Fair/Week The book fair begins Wednesday 14th August until Tuesday 20th August (morning and afternoon book sales will take place during this week). Book week begins Monday 19th August. A parade will take place on Monday 19th August. Mrs Bell and her team are busily planning these exciting events. Welcome A big welcome to Shannon Young our new grade 1A teacher. The children seem excited to have her and we are really pleased to have her enthusiasm and drive at our school and Lightning Bolt of course the new 1A class turtle!! Also welcome to Ros Allingham our French teacher for the next month. Ros is replacing Glenda while she is away on long service leave. Facebook A big thank you to our amazing parents for being so supportive and encouraging regarding our school. Noticeboards are now popping up on Facebook and it is nice that this can be used in a positive way. I realise it can be negative also but with amazing comments as I have seen on there we should be able to overcome this! Principal Morning Tea After assembly on Monday we will be having morning tea. I encourage parents to attend and have a chat about issues concerning our school. These morning teas have been quite successful and entertaining. Please drop in for a cuppa if you can! Farewell Ross Patterson (keyboard teacher) has retired. Thank you Ross for the wonderful contribution you have made to our school. Ross has been associated with Dorset for many years and inspired many young ‘musicians’. We wish you well in your retirement and hope you enjoy many years of retirement bliss. Keyboard sessions will continue on Mondays with Heather at the helm. The children seem really settled and happy to be back. A terrific atmosphere for the children to be learning in. Thanks for all the continued support.

Kind Regards, Palma Coppa Assistant Principal
