MISSION STATEMENT

PUBLIC RELATIONS

Public Relations’ goal is to publicize the Kern County Grand Jury. This is a three-fold process: (1) recruitment, (2) publicity, and (3) obtaining speakers for our weekly meetings. Communication with as many groups and individuals in securing possible new members for the following year is our first goal. Working with the media and clubs and organizations to disperse information regarding all aspects of the work and special programs of the Grand Jury is our second goal. The third goal is to arrange for guest speakers who are in “key” positions in Kern County and have them share their expertise.

SUMMARY OF ACTIVITIES – PUBLIC RELATIONS Members of the Public Relations Committee spoke at many Rotary, Kiwanis, SIRS, and Lions Club meetings to provide the public with information regarding the purpose and function of the Grand Jury. At these presentations, brochures were given to each person in attendance along with a Grand Jury bookmark and a business card with the Grand Jury’s phone number. Press releases were submitted to the media. These emphasized Grand Jury Awareness Day, the student essay contest, and Grand Jury recruitment. Television spots were also done by the committee for Grand Jury Awareness Day. Speakers for Grand Jury weekly meetings were contacted and thanked for their participation. The Public Relations Committee also prepared two bulletin boards for the County Court Building. These were in the lobby from November 1st through June 15th.
