Meeting Goals

• Introduction of new team members

• Project status update

• Present our findings

• Hear your feedback

• Discuss next steps

Purpose and Need

1. Enhance safety by creating a physical separation between vehicles and pedestrians and the trains

2. Improve mobility and access for first responders, businesses and residents

Rail Corridor Fast Facts:> 90 Trains daily

> 7 ½ Hours of gate downtime weekly

> Commuter rail service anticipated to increase 50% by 2035

> 14 Recorded incidents at Doran crossing

> 9 Recorded incidents at Broadway/Brazil crossing

> CPUC has mandated improvements to the Doran crossing

Existing Peak Hour Traffic Conditions

• Doran Street/San Fernando Road Intersection– Over 3,000 vehicles passing through the intersection– 20 Pedestrians– 24 Cyclists

• Brazil & Broadway/San Fernando Road Intersection– Almost 2,400 vehicles passing through the intersection– 87 Pedestrians

• 6 Trains pass through during the peak hour, significantly impacting intersection level-of-service

Project is Comprised of Two Components

• These two components work in tandem to provide a comprehensive safety and access solution

• Benefits: – Closes two at-grade crossings,– Eliminates longer term impacts with no

need for a future grade separation at Broadway/Brazil

– Uninterrupted access over the railroad corridor with minimal diversion of traffic

– The two components support Quiet Zones for Doran St and Broadway/Brazil

2. Northerly Point of Access

1. Salem/Sperry Overpass

1. Salem/Sperry Overpass

• Significant safety enhancement

• Uninterrupted access across the railroad corridor

• Pedestrian and bicycle facilities

• Metro Board approved this alternative in June 2015

Conceptual rendering; subject to change.

2. Northerly Point of Access

• Access required for first responders

• Critical access for economic vitality of businesses in north Atwater Village

• Evaluated numerous one-way and two-way configurations

• Updated traffic analysis

Traffic Summary

• SCAG 2035 Model predicts minimal growth for Fairmont and Concord

• Trip Generation to/from the north on Fairmont diverted to widened I-5 Freeway

• J-hook or P-hook will not add substantial traffic to Fairmont• Fairmont intersections still operate at Level of Service B or C =

No significant project impacts
