Product Availability:

Our catalogues show the availability of each product. We have a wide range of products in stock, including the most popular doors. Made to order doors will generally take around 3 weeks and made to order framed joinery will have a longer lead time depending on the type of item. Always confirm the lead time at the time of order.

Freight & Couriers:

If you are out of our delivery area we can use a freight company or courier company to get your order to you. Our prices do not include freight (or delivery) but we will be happy to provide you with a competitive freight quote.

ORDERING INFORMATIONIfwhatyouareafterisnotinstock,wecannormallymakeitforyouororderitinfromanothersupplier.Thenotesbelowexplaintheprocess.

Placing an order

Beforeyouplaceanorderforanynonstockproduct,wewillhavegivenyouaquote.Dependingontheproductsbeingorderedandyourlocation,wewillalsoquoteyouforfreightordeliverysothattherearenoextracosts.

Returning products

Faulty/damaged products

CARE OF TIMBER DOORSTimberisanaturalproduct,whichisnotonlyattractivebutextremelyversatiletoworkwith.It’snosurprisethatdespitemanyothermaterialsbeingavailable,timberisstillaspopularasever.Byfollowingsome‘commonsense’guidelinesandsomeongoingcare,timberjoinery,mouldings,turnings&otherrenovationproductswillgivemanyyearsoffaithfulservice.

Intended Use

Itisimportantthatthejoineryorrenovationproductthatyouarepurchasingissuitablefortheintendedenduse.Somejoinerywillperformbetterandlastlongerincertainlocations.Forexample,paneldoorsperformbestwhentheyarenotexposedtotheweather.Placingyourjoineryinanunsuitablelocationmayvoidyourwarranty.

Exterior Joinery:AlwaysstoreJoineryunitsuprightandinadryventilatedenvironment.Un-primedJoineryunitsrequireatleast1coatofanoilbasedprimerimmediatelyuponreachingsitepriortostorage.Bungalow&Villaprovideaprimingserviceifrequired.

Interior Joinery:AlwaysstoreJoineryunitsuprightandinadryventilatedenvironmentawayfromdirectsunlightandheatsources.Specialcareshouldbetakenonsiteswithheavymasonrycontent(i.e.concreteblock/slabconstruction)asmoisturefromsurroundingmasonrywillbeabsorbedbyrawtimberproducts,compromisingdirectionalstability(warping)ofcomponents.Forthesamereasonsavoidexcessiveheatsourcessuchasdirectsunlightorcloseddryrooms.

Priming / Sealing

Exterior Joinery:MostitemsofexteriorjoineryfromBungalow&Villacomewithacoatofoilbasedprimerincludedintheprice.Gateshavetwocoats.

1) Use only premium quality oil-based alkyd primers and sealers.

2) Within 2 weeks of receiving your joinery, you will need to apply, by brush, a minimum of 2 successive coats (preferably oil-based enamels) to all primed surfaces.

3) Pay special attention to all ‘End Grain’ surfaces. These are usually the tops and bottoms of doors and window sashes.

These areas are where a large percentage of moisture uptake occurs and causes the most common of problems: swelling, shrinkage and joint failure.

Interior Joinery:Forun-primedjoinery,prime/sealall6surfacesoftheproductimmediatelyuponreachingsite.Followonwiththeproceduresoutlinedaboveasforexteriorjoinery.Alternatively,askusforaquoteforfactoryprimingyouinteriorjoinery.

Paint Colours

Uselightercoloursfortopcoats.Thiswillreducetheeffectofsolarenergyincreasingthetemperatureoftheboards,whichmayresultinadverseweatheringofthetimberproducts.Werecommendcolourswithalightreflectancevalueof45ormore(where0=Blackand100=White).

Alwaysapplypaintasperthepaintmanufacturer’srecommendations.

Stain Quality Products

Theaboveguidelinesshouldalsobefollowedforstainqualityproducts.Exteriorwoodstainspermeatethesurfaceandworkprimarilybysheddingliquidwaterfromawaterrepellantsurface.Asaresult,theyperformbestonverticalsurfaces.Whenusedonnearhorizontalsurfaces,theycanbelesseffectiveandhaveashorterlife.

Timber Treatments

Softwoods,suchasRadiataPinerequiretreatmentwithapreservativeiftheyaretobeusedoutside.Dependingontheproducttype,ourproductsaretreatedtoH3.1,H3.2orH5.All our H3.1 products come pre-primed.

AllendcutsmustbesealedpriortoinstallationwithasuitablesealersuchasMetalex.

Installation

AllBungalow&Villaproductsrequireinstallationbysuitablyqualifiedpersonnel.Incorrectinstallationwillresultindisappointingandpoorperformancealongwithashortenedlifeexpectancyoftheproductconcerned.

Ongoing care & maintenance

Wooddecay,alsoknowasfungalinfestation,occurswhenunprotectedwoodisexposedtodampconditionsovertime.Mouldsporesdevelop,sendingroot-likefeelersintothewood.Thesefeelersproduceenzymesthatbreakdownwoodfibresasafoodsource.Asthewoodfibresbreakdown,thestructuralintegrityweakensuntilthewoodiscompletelydestroyed.Topreventthis,werecommendthatyoucleananymouldanddirtfromexternaldoorsatleastonceayear.Anannualinspectionofallexposedwoodisessential.

Borrowed Lite:Awindoworglazedareasituatedinaninternalwalltoadmitdaylightfromanadjoiningroom,corridor,hallwayoranenclosedlightwell.

Casement or Side Hung:Openoutwindowsashsidehungonbutthingesorsometimesfittedwithfrictionstaystopandbottom.

Clerestory Window (clear-storey window):Awindowplacedhighinawallthatprojectsabovetherooflineofanadjoiningpartofthebuilding.

Door:Theinnercomponentofadoorunitwhichisglazedorpaneledandhung.

Dormer Window:Awindowprojectingthroughtheplaneoftheroof,setverticallywithcheeks(sidewalls)anditsownroof.

Double – hung:Verticallyslidingupperandlowersashescounterbalancedbyweightsorspiral(spring)balances.Amoreeconomicaloptionisasinglehungwhichhasonesashfixedinplace.

Putty faced:ThetermusedforGlassheldintoaglazingrebateindoor,sashorframebyputty.“FacedOff“meaningfinishedortooledoffwithaputtyknife.

Fixed Glazing or F.G:Glassthatisglazeddirectlyintoajoineryframe,wherenosashordoorispresent.Usuallytheglassisheldinbyatimberbeadbutinsomecasescanbeputtyfaced.
