CHAPTER3-ABSTRACTGEOMETRICDOODLING

Idletimeoraboringenvironmentistheperfectmediumforabstractgeometricdoodling. Often, the doodler is surprised by a formerly undeveloped artistictalent that emerges with doodling. When it comes to abstract geometricdoodling, it's the resulting size, shape and dimensions that make outstandinggeometricdoodlingpatterns.TipsonAbstractGeometricDoodlingWith the use of paper, pencil or pen, create abstract geometric doodles byallowing the free flow of designs. Today's popular hobby is to create abstractgeometricdoodlesincolor. To create an abstract geometric doodle, beginwith a three inch by three inchsquare.Doodle inside the linesof thissquarebycreatingseveralmoreslightly

Forexample, trianglesmakewonderfulgeometricdoodleswhen theyaredrawn incontrasting colors. Begin by doodling a page full of triangles. Choose vividcolors likehotpink, chartreuseandsapphireblue tocolor triangles.Geometricpattern designs appear dimensional when colors are arranged on the page ingeometric order. Remember, darker colors tend to stabilize the base of ageometric design while lighter colors aligned at the top of a design balancecolors.Doodle a full page of triangle shapes. The idea behind abstract geometric doodling is tocapturetheattentionofviewersofthesedoodledesigns.It'spossibletomakeanabstractgeometricdoodleappeartobe"inmotion."Startthedesignfromthecenterandworkoutward.Useeitherblackandwhiteshapeslikehexagons, rectanglesor triangles.Tocreate "motion," indoodle art, use avarietyofgeometricshapesthat"move"acrossthepage.Note that geometric doodles oftenmake the human eye see shapes inmotionsimply by their design. Doodle the geometric design. Keep the eyes focusedclosely on the center of the design. The rest of the design appears to "move."Another fun tip is to create an abstract geometric doodle that makes imagesappear.Thisisdonebycreatingdesignsthatformshapesseenwhentheviewerlooksawayfromtheimagethey'vefocusedonwhileupclose.AbstractGeometricDoodling-BeginswithShapeThe reality of all great art is that it begins with a shape. This is also true ofgeometric doodling. Anyone can draw squares, circles and a wealth of othergeometric shapes. Turning these shapes into patterns is where the artist isinspiredbyformanddimension.Ifadoodlercan"see"severalshapesthatcreatea form or dimension, it's possible to create abstract geometric doodles. CHAPTER4-DOODLINGNATURE

Nature has been an inspiration for artists for centuries, and doodlers are nodifferentinthisrespect.Forthosewhowanttotryandre-createscenesofnaturein their doodles there are plentyof simpleways to do just that. All it takes issomepractice, andmaybeaglimpseoutofthewindow.OrganicDoodlesOne of the simplest doodles someone can draw is a basic tree.A trunk and around top of foliage, while looking like something out of Dr. Seuss, is easyenough todraw.By forking the trunkyoucreatebranches, andby forking thebranchesyoucreatemorebranches.Thiscanbeusedtocreateamorerealisticlookingtree(eveninminiature),andoncethebranchesarefilledinwithleavesit's obvious to anyonewho's ever seen a treewhat you're drawing. For instance, if you have a person standingwith a lightsource directly above that person's head then there are going to be shadows.Underthenose,thechin,thebrows,thehair,thecollarbones,etc.Darkshadowsshould be represented by solid blackness, whereas lighter shadows tend to berepresented by cross-hatching (a technique used in all kinds of art fromclassrooms to comicbooks). For crosshatchingyou simpledraw lines thatgowith thecurveofa surface (whether it's abiceporabladeofgrass), and then"cross" those lineswith lines coming from the other direction. The darker theshadowsthethickerthecrosshatchingbecomes, andthelightertheshadowsthe
