Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Isaiah 5:20

In 1978, some 900 members of the People’s Temple cult committed mass suicide in Jonestown, Guyana by drinking a mixture of grape Kool-Aid, Valium and Cyanide. Little could these poor souls have imagined that the group they had joined for its promise of spiritual understanding and social justice would end up asking them to feed their children the sugar-laden poison before killing themselves. The sad truth, though, is that they had already drank the “Kool-Aid” long before they took their own lives, by killing off their ability to think critically and independently. Humans are endowed with extraordinary powers of observation and analysis, and yet we are also susceptible to deep-seeded desires for acceptance and conformity which too often demand that we silence our inconvenient truths.

Prologue

Six Reasons This BookWas Written

1. To glorify the Lord Jesus Christ.

O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.

Psalm 34:3

2. Oprah Winfrey, said to be the most powerful woman in the world, is in the process of advising the masses that there are many spiritual paths...

- Her daily audience:

15-20 MILLION

- Her new interactive classroom, last attendance count

10 Million+

Page 8: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

4

3. To give pastors a valueable comprehensive tool to pass on to their congregation. Christians are being deceived! They are letting this into their homes, after all, it’s not Marilyn Manson. Many are questioning their beliefs and being led to believe that they should at least listen to other ways...

For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.

Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

2 Corinthians 11:13-15

4. Time to expose the TRUTH. Brainwashing, mindtraining - everyday, via television, radio, magazine and internet. In their own words...

MINDTRAINING

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and

acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Romans 12:2

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

John 14:6

5. The end times are close at hand. This book will show you that what we have here is deeper than the first glance. Deeper than Oprah’s online classroom that just popped up into our consciousness. This is part of a long, calculated plan. Not necessarily on the part of the key players, but orches-trated by one who has been around since the fall of man. What you have here is evil doctrine, persuasive and subliminal techniques, sudden rises in power and even the latter day peace alliance, formed by one of the New Age gurus profiled in this book. The pieces of the puzzle are coming together.

Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.

They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.

Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.

Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

Let that therefore abide in you, which ye have heard from the beginning. If that which ye have heard from the beginning shall remain in you, ye also shall continue in the Son, and in the Father.

And this is the promise that he hath promised us, even eternal life.

These things have I written unto you concerning them that seduce you.

6. Are there any who will stand?

• Do we allow this to go on without the world hearing our voice.God Forbid.

• Do we quietly continue to watch programming because it is the most popular show on daytime and we really, really like it!

God Forbid.

• Are there any Christian pastors or celebrities who will dare to speak out? This will be an interesting time to watch. It takes an amazing amount of courage and nonconformity to go against the trappings and influence of what appearing on one show could bring you. You write a book, one appearance could set you up for life. Got a new movie coming out, no problem, one appearance can seal the deal.

Do you have what it takes to stand up for the One who died for you? We’ve already got one celebrity who has taken a stand. Chuck Norris has written an article and has gone on the record. Our hats are off to you, Mr. Norris for making such a stand so strongly and swiftly.

Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. Deuteronomy 31:6

Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.

Isaiah 35:4

The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalms 27:1

Dedication

First and foremost, this book is dedicated to the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ. He alone is the only way and paid the price for us with his precious blood for our salvation. Thank you Lord, for your guidance in my life and your love that surrounds me as I take each step, each moment of this life.

To a family that is always there to support me in whatever I attempt. My husband and my children, you have put up with alot, for the greater vision that we have as a family. Always remember, that any success that we achieve is only because of the unity and support of each other and we share the reward.

Thank you to my mother, the memory as a child of your fervent prayers by your bedside each night will never be forgotten. You gave me the foundation and the knowledge that the most important thing in life was knowing that my eternal destiny was sealed and impressed upon me the need to live each day with power through the Holy Spirit.

I appreciate all the love and support I’ve received from extended family and friends. We are each uniquely a product of our experiences, and without all of your prayers, I wouldn’t have the rich history and love to draw from.

Preface

Have you ever gotten that little feeling in the pit of your stomach that something just wasn’t right? The first time I experienced it as it relates to the Oprah Winfrey Show was close to ten years ago. Oprah was interviewing a guest named Gary Zukav, author of the book, The Seat of the Soul. I decided after hearing some of the conversation, that since it didn’t seem to correspond with my Christian beliefs, I would just not watch that day.

That would become the pattern that I followed over the next ten years. I would hear of various guests that definitely were of a New Age philosophy and would just choose not to tune in for that particular day. In the midst of raising a family and being a working mom, I didn’t take the time to really analyze what was happening. After all, I was like millions of my peers, who tuned in to the show that had been on since my teen years. Oprah had the ability to lift and encourage, she was like one of your trusted friends. The show provided that daily escapism into a world that was as diverse as going behind the scenes with celebrities, to the latest diet program, to seeing average people overcome great odds to triumph over their tragedies.

“In America, it is known simply as the “O” Factor. As the reigning talk-show queen, trusted arbiter of taste and general adviser on everyday life, Oprah Winfrey has persuaded millions of devoted viewers to buy everything from bras to books.”1

So, over the years, there were more than a few of her programs that I just

Page 18: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

14

didn’t watch, when the subject matter made me uncomfortable.

Then there was a day, when something broke through my lull of complacency, and actually compelled me to do a little research on what was being promoted by my trusted advisor, Ms. O.

Maybe it was the push to actually go online and sign up for a class covering the latest Oprah Book Club selection, Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth. This time a book wasn’t just selected for us, but Oprah was actually going to teach a weekly online class with the book’s author. Almost daily, during the course of the show, a short clip would come on about signing up to be part of this global class, advising us that already over 300,000 had signed up. Oprah also told us that it would transform our lives, as it had hers. I noticed that as the date drew near for the class to begin, the clips would get a little longer and started featuring celebrities who encouraged us to “awaken” to the possibilities.

As most of the world does in this wonderful age of technology, I went to Google and started looking up the author and the book. What I found in a relatively short period of time took my breath away. I literally felt like I had been kicked in the stomach.

It was the beginning of a journey and a time of discovery and enlightenment that opened my eyes to something much deeper than I had ever imagined.

I have come to the realization that I have been living under a cloud of illusion with a false sense of wellbeing that has been stripped away. My comfortable, familiar routine was now the source of something that is on the brink of changing America. It has slithered into our homes and we are not even aware of it, in fact...we’re embracing it.

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Chapter OneOprah

“What makes the Oprah Winfrey Show the highest rated talk show in television history? She connects with people on their most basic level.” Her website, Oprah.com explains that she has “created an unparalleled connection with people around the world.”1

The Oprah Winfrey Show has remained the number one talk show for 21 consecutive seasons. The show is seen by an estimated 46 million viewers a week in the United States and is broadcast internationally in 134 countries.2

But her influence doesn’t stop there. Not even close. She’s a one-woman entertainment empire, her influence extends around the world. Oprah’s endeavors are multifaceted and cover all available means of reaching the masses. Let’s go through them one by one.

O Magazine. Launched in April 2000, a monthly magazine that is credited as being the most successful magazine launch in recent history and currently has a circulation of 2.3 million readers each month.3

Oprah.com Website. Oprah.com averages 70 million page views and more than 6 million users per month and has 1.3 million newsletter subscribers, offering advice on everything from the mind, body and spirit to food, home and relationships. Content includes Oprah’s Book Club, which offers free in-depth reading guides for each book selection and online discussion groups. Within its first year, Oprah’s Book Club quickly became the largest book club in the world, attracting approximately 1 million members.4

18

Oprah & Friends XM Satellite Radio Channel. Started in 2006, a 24-hour a day radio channel with daily programming featuring Oprah and regular guests of her show.5

OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network. Currently the Discovery Health Channel, in 2009 will become the Oprah Winfrey Network, set to debut in more than 70 million homes. Oprah says, “Fifteen years ago, I wrote in my journal that one day I would create a television network, as I always felt my show was just the beginning of what the future could hold.” 6

She is also a philanthropist and a film, television and Broadway producer.

Her accomplishments include:7

• 2004 - 2007 Time Magazine—100 Most Influential People in the World • 2005 - 2007 Forbes - Celebrity 100 Power List - #1 Rank • 2003 - 1st Black woman to become a billionaire • Oprah and The Oprah Winfrey Show received more than 40 Daytime Emmy Awards before Oprah removed herself from future award consideration.

Celebrity creator. Oprah has launched many regular people into stardom. From TV (Dr. Phil, Rachel Ray) to countless authors, just a mention from her show is like winning the lottery. She has the Midas touch that extends to every product she endorses. 8

What does this mean? It means that we are in trouble. While we were sleeping, we have welcomed into our home with open arms what David J. Stewart has called “the most dangerous woman in the world.” 9 An article in the Washington Post called it the “Church of Oprah, which is the church of possibility.”10 Some of her fans have even suggested she run for the presidency.

“Winfrey, she says, “acts as if her show has ‘evolved,’ but in fact, she still has the salacious sex and deviance stories, with a psychologist in the audience to make it seem highbrow and give it the kosher seal of approval.”11 “The fact that Winfrey has never been married, never had children and is a billionaire distances her from her audience, Schlussel says. “How could anyone like this be in touch with the average American woman?”12 But it hasn’t. “Scores of fans — mostly women — follow her across the country, live by her words and practically worship her.”13

Page 23: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

19

The media represent as an angel of light and all that is positive in the world. “She is the queen of self-improvement.”14 “Oprah’s great gift, and the foundation of her lay ministry, is her understanding that even women who have enjoyed great success in their personal and professional lives can still struggle to find meaning and fulfillment, and that they can learn from Oprah’s own search for the same things.” 15

Did she always have these beliefs? It doesn’t appear to be the case. Named after the Bible character Orpah, instead due to a misspelling became Oprah. Orpah is derived from the Hebrew word for “neck” (`oreph), and so to mean “stiff-necked” and can also mean “turning-back.”

Oprah was born January 29, 1954. “She was raised in a black Baptist Church in Mississippi, a deacon’s daughter, was sexually abused by male relatives, became a promiscuous teenager, and gave birth to a baby boy out of wedlock who died in infancy. But then “repenting” returned to the church in Nashville and began to speak frequently in Nashville Churches with a special emphasis on practical spirituality.” 16

In a video clip from the The Oprah Winfrey Show, featuring a New Age panel, Oprah stated that “...one of the biggest mistakes humans make is to believe that there is only one way. Actually, there are many diverse paths leading to what you call God.” When corrected by an audience member that Jesus said He was the only way, the panel lost their composure. Oprah commented, “There couldn’t possibly be only one way...Does God care about your heart or whether you called His Son Jesus?” 17

During one show Oprah related, “I was raised a Baptist and we were too hung up on traditional ways. I was sitting in church and heard that God is a jealous God. I asked ‘Why?’ Come on-let’s get over it!”18 Oprah has said that it was at that moment that she began opening her mind to other possible paths.

How did she get to this place? “Who were the individuals who influenced her transformation? What was their message? These questions are not only appropriate to ask, but they are critical to our understanding of how Oprah became seduced by the perennial teachings of the occult.”19

Page 24: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

20

As an adult, she attended the Trinity United Church of Christ, a progressive congregation in Chicago known as Senator Barack Obama’s home church. This Church is controversial in it’s own right, and will be examined later in greater detail.

Through the years, Oprah has developed an open philosophy for learning and delving into spiritual matters. It appears that on the way to her quest to find the answers, her “truths’ have come from a variety of sources that compliment one another because they ultimately come from one source; the deceiver, Satan. Russ Wise, Christian Information Network summizes, “She has adopted the pantheistic world view of those spiritual authors and teachers whom she has embraced over the past decade or so. Oprah has fully accepted her role as seeker and teacher of this self-empowering philosophy. She sees herself as the conduit between the enlightened and those in darkness.” 20

It all seems to have started when she read the book by Unity Minister, Eric Butterworth, Discover the Power Within You. Oprah embraced it so enthusiastically that she said, “This book changed my perspective on life and religion. Eric teaches that God isn’t up there, he exists in every one of us. It’s up to us to seek the divine within.” 21

A defining moment in Oprah’s life was when she starred in the motion picture, Beloved. This movie is about a woman who is haunted by the spirit of her dead daughter. In an article in Ebony Magazine, November 1998, Laura Randolph says, “she (Oprah) discovered there was only one way she could get through the scenes without collapsing, by invoking the spirits of the ancestors. “I kept slave documents in my trailer. I would have all of those documents laid out” “...and every morning I would light candles and say a prayer for each of them. I would call their names out loud. And then I could go in and do the scene. I’d say, `I’m doing this for you, Little Anna.’ Or, `Today is Big John’s Day.’ And when I had trouble on the set, I would go into a corner and call them up.” 22

These are just some of the examples that show just how this spiritual process started to take shape. “Particularly instructive for us all is the fact that Oprah doesn’t seem to be aware that she has been seduced deeply into the New Age worldview.”23

Chapter TwoDabbling in the Occult

Oprah’s interviews and book endorsements have created many success stories. Below are four of the top ten bestsellers for the week of March 2, 2008 listed on Amazon.com that have been featured by Oprah.

#1 A New Earth - Eckhart Tolle#2 Losing It - Valerie Bertinelli #5 Eat Pray Love: Elizabeth Gilbert#7 The Power of Now - Eckhart Tolle

“Early on in her personal transformation she hosted celebrities like Shirley MacLaine and Marianne Williamson. She also gave voice to Gary Zukav, Caroline Myss, Iyanla Vanzant, Betty Eadie, James Van Praagh, and Deepak Chopra. Oprah’s platform was broad enough that all of her spiritual allies not only gained notoriety, but in many cases they gained their own platform to spread their New Age gospel. Their books became instant bestsellers, their speaking fees increased exponentially, their cache increased among those who were on the “A” list, and their spiritual influence affected the

masses. In the case of Iyanla Vanzant she secured her own television talk show as a result of Barbara Walters hearing her on Oprah.”1

We will briefly examine some of the more prominent influences that have held a featured place in the attempt to transform America.

Discover the Power Within You. Eric Butterworth - Harper & Row 1968Author Eric Butterworth was Senior Minister of The Unity Center of New York City from 1961 to 2003. He was the author of 16

Page 28: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

24

bestselling books on metaphysical spirituality, and was considered a New Age pioneer and innovator of New Thought. 2

Forbes magazine in 1987 summarized his message thus: ‘’We alone have the power within us to solve our problems, relieve our anxieties and pain, heal our illnesses, improve our golf game or get a promotion.” 3

The basic premise is that the power within each individual is God – the force or energy that permeates all of creation. According to Butterworth, Jesus is truly the way-shower in that he first made the discovery for himself and offers it to each of us. 4 He called sin ‘’self-inflicted nonsense.’ 5

He says, “We must see Jesus as the great discoverer of the . . . great world within. We must study and emphatically reject our historical tendency to

worship Jesus. When He becomes the object of our worship, He ceases to be the way-shower for our own self-realization and self-unfoldment.” 6

Remember, Oprah said, “This book changed my perspective on life and religion. Eric teaches that God isn’t up there, he exists in every one of us. It’s up to us to seek the divine within.” 7

The Seat of The Soul. Gary Zukav - Simon & Schuster January 1990The book mixed “Hinduism with ever day values.”8 Gary Zukav says “We are evolving from a species that pursues external power into a species that pursues authentic power. We are leaving behind exploration of the physical world as our sole means of evolution.”9 Zukav calls Jesus the most evolved of our species, he speaks of karma, reincarnation and says that each human soul has both non-physical guides and teachers.

In an interview with The Intuition Network, Zukav says that “You will draw to yourself, as you have, guides that can provide you with just this assistance. They appear to be such that we can give them names, or speak to them as though they were other personalities. In fact, they are impersonal energy dynamics. A non physical teacher is like a friend that knows you very well, knows the deepest parts of you, knows all of your struggles, knows all of your aspirations, knows all of the things that you are ashamed of and working on and strives only for your best interest, strives only for

Page 29: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

25

the ever increasing alignment of your personality with your soul.” The interviewer says, “Ask and you shall receive.” Zukav says, “Always you will receive. No prayer is unanswered. Every question is answered.” 10

Gary Zukav appeared on the Oprah Show in October 1998, later becoming a regular guest and The Seat of the Soul was on the New York Times bestseller list for more than two years.

But what does Oprah say about Zukav? “Gary Zukav believes that your intentions determine your actions and their consequences. Now I don’t do anything without being clear about my intentions.”11

Eat, Pray, Love. Elizabeth Gilbert - Viking Adult February 2006This book is included because it was featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show, not once, but twice in 2007.

Maureen Callahan of the New York Post describes, “it is a self-help-y memoir by Elizabeth Gilbert, a successful, affluent writer who, in her early 30s, locked herself in her bathroom night after night, crying on the floor over the state of her marriage. She got divorced, then went looking for answers, spending four months in Italy to eat, four months in India to find God (she says she did, even sat in his palm), then four months in Bali to pull it all together and maybe find love.” Callahan also relates that “during her second appearance on Oprah - seated in front of hundreds of devotees - she listened to testimonials such as these: • “I was a self-proclaimed atheist. But I have since found religion, and I made my bathroom my ashram.”

• “Several women said to me, ‘This is the bible. You must read it.’ “

• “I don’t know that I’ve had my ‘bathroom floor moment,’ and maybe I need to.”

But the anecdotal evidence suggests that its readers are using “Eat, Pray, Love” as a shortcut to finding a spiritual “truth” (one that is not even theirs, but Gilbert’s), as an excuse to have that extra glass of wine, and as a license to abandon all critical thinking.” 12

Page 30: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

26

“The book has had a 32-week run on the New York Times paperback nonfiction best-seller list, where it currently occupies the No. 1 position. Paramount Pictures acquired the movie rights for actress Julia Roberts. The author says a sequel is already in the works.”13 Oprah.com calls the book a “life-changing phenomenon.” 14

The Secret. Rhonda Byrne - Atria Books/Beyond Words November 2006 In February 2007, Oprah aired two specials about the film, The Secret. The feature length movie was released last year, the book is a #1 New York Times bestseller and has more than 7.5 million copies in print. It toppled the final Harry Potter

book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on Amazon’s bestseller list.

Author Rhonda Byrnes says she stumbled on what she calls The Secret at the end of 2004. At the time, everything in Rhonda’s life had fallen apart—physically, emotionally and financially—and she was in “total despair.”15 “That’s when Rhonda’s daughter gave her a copy of The Science of Getting Rich, a book written in 1910 by Wallace D. Wattles.“16 “Something inside of me had me turn the pages one by one, and I can still remember my tears hitting the pages as I was reading it,” Rhonda says.”After that first discovery, Rhonda read hundreds of books, listened to hundreds of hours of audio tapes and scoured the Internet for more information. She says she traced the idea of The Secret through history—all the way from 3500 B.C. to the present day.“17

The main premise behind the The Secret is the law of attraction, which is the principle that “like attracts like.” Rhonda says it is “the most powerful law in the universe,” and says it is working all the time. “What we do is we attract into our lives the things we want, and that is based on what we’re thinking and feeling.”18

To assist in teaching the philosophy, Rhonda created the DVD The Secret, featuring various experts. Lighthouse Trails Research describes the genie that appears in the trailer of the movie on the website: “It begins by showing a genie from a lamp, who tells the beholder ‘your wish is my command.’ Research analyst Ray Yungen explains this concept: “The genie represents the Higher Self, who was reached through meditation by staring at the flame of an oil lamp. It was believed that a person could have whatever he or she wanted, once in touch with it. Our word genius comes from this Latin

Page 31: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

27

word for spirit guide and now means a person with great creative power.” 19

Larry King calls the DVD the “most profound information he has run across in 40 years.”20

In May of 2007, Rhonda Byrne was recognized as one of the world’s most influential people in TIME magazine’s “The TIME 100: The People Who Shape Our World,” and shortly afterwards appeared in Forbes’ “The Celebrity 100” list. 21

In describing the success of The Secret, Oprah says, “It has been marketed and packaged in such a way that people of our generation, of this time, can receive it in a way that perhaps they couldn’t have received it from other philosophers.” 22

These are just a very small sampling of the New Age philosophers Oprah has touted through the years. She has taken it slowly and worked methodically up until this point, introducing us to her “spiritual” world in bits and pieces.

But over the course of the last year, the rhetoric has increased to an alarming level. Not only have the shows featuring spiritual topics increased, but phrases and keywords are being sprinkled in with each and every show.

The next two chapters will discuss the current gurus that Oprah is pushing us towards with a level of intensity that is almost bordering on desperation. In essence, it’s as if we’re encouraged to “come on, watch a show, buy a book, oh, and while you’re at it...drink some Kool-Aid.”

I warn you that the following chapters will not be pleasant, since we will be digesting in detail beliefs of pure heresy. But the Bible admonishes us to be sober, alert and aware of the signs.

I would suggest a moment of prayer before even a glimpse into the mind of Oprah’s favorite gurus.

Chapter ThreeMarianne Williamson

The interviewer asked “Was Jesus the only Son of God?” Marianne Williamson’s response was “Hogwash! First of all, I believe we are all Sons of God, and it is our destiny to be as Jesus. He said whoever does what he has been doing “will do even greater things than these.” The difference is he was a Son of God who fully remembered that he was a Son of God and he displayed that understanding. Second, there is only one soul. To say there is “only one begotten son” doesn’t mean that someone else was it, and we’re not. It means we’re all it. There’s only one of us here.” 1

Published in 1992, A Return to Love catapulted Marianne Williamson to fame when Oprah Winfrey bought 1,000 copies to hand out, telling her television audience she had experienced 157 miracles after reading it. The book was on the New York Times bestseller list for 35 weeks.2

As a result her first printing sold out that day and propelled the book to #1 on the New York Times bestseller list.3

Marianne Williamson is also described as a New Age minister. Williamson was spiritual director of Renaissance Unity, resigning in 2002. She then put all her effort into lecturing and peace agendas. She founded The Peace Alliance, a lobbying effort to create a U.S. Department of Peace.

Since September 2006, Williamson has hosted an hour long show on the Oprah and Friends XM Satellite Network. The Oprah.com website says, “A Course in Miracles (often called just “the Course”) is an educational program for retraining the mind that is spiritual, rather than religious, in its perspective. Although it uses Christian terminology, the Course expresses a universal experience, and its underlying ontology is reminiscent of ancient

Page 36: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

32

refrains, echoing the world’s most hallowed traditions. …” 4

The preceding information gives you an idea of the mind-blowing rhetoric and blasphemy we are being spoonfed on a daily basis. And to make things even easier for us...we can get the book, take the course online or listen in on the radio. HELLO, are you listening...from their own description they tell us that it is mind-training. MIND-TRAINING!

Beginning on January 1, 2008, Oprah.com featured a section in the “spirit” portion of their website allowing online visitors to began a year long self-study course in A Course In Miracles with 365 lessons or a lesson per day, taught by Marianne Williamson.

The Oprah.com website provides an excerpt from the Course, “Some of the ideas the workbook presents you will find hard to believe, and others may seem to be quite startling. This does not matter. You are merely asked to apply the ideas as you are directed to do. You are not asked to judge them at all. You are asked only to use them. It is their use that will give them meaning to you, and will show you that they are true. Remember only this; you need not believe the ideas, you need not accept them, and you need not even welcome them. Some of them you may actively resist. None of this will matter, or decrease their efficacy. But do not allow yourself to make exceptions in applying the ideas the workbook contains, and whatever your reactions to the ideas may be, use them. Nothing more than that is required.” 5

You are probably wondering, just what is A Course In Miracles?

In October 1965, a Jewish atheist psychologist named Helen Schucman, an associate professor of medical psychology at Columbia University in New York, claimed she began receiving channeled messages from an unknown entity in an audible voice.6

This voice, claimed Schuchman, was the voice of Jesus. A Course in Miracles began with these words: “This is a course in miracles, please take notes.” The voice continued “This course can therefore be summed up very simply in this way: Nothing real can be threatened, Nothing

Page 37: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

33

unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God.” 7

At a later date the entity identified itself as Jesus Christ. As a matter of record, for the next ten years the voice is said to have dictated “in an inau-dible voice” the three volume, 1,188 page, 500,000 word book known as A Course In Miracles. 8

A Course In Miracles, is in effect, brainwashing through mindless repetition. Since Schucman was a trained psychologist, she was aware that this is the way to brainwash people. Using this method, you do not need to explain anything. People will eventually believe just by doing repetitive constant exercises.

The stated goal is to change how one thinks, to change one’s belief system by subtle deception. The individual is for the most part unaware of the transformation he or she is undergoing because the Course utilizes Christian terminology. The Manual for Teachers, Volume Three, boldly says that “It cannot be too strongly emphasized that this course aims at a complete reversal of thought.” 9

There are 365 lessons. The lessons start out without reference to any spiritual principles, but develop as you progress. Here are some examples, as you read take a moment and let the words sink in - you will be shocked:

• Nothing I see in this room means anything.10

• I do not understand anything I see in this room.11

• My mind is part of God’s. I am very holy.12

• My holiness envelops everything I see.13

• My holiness is my salvation.14

• God is the Mind with which I think.15

• There is nothing to fear.16

• I am the light of the world.17

• Forgiveness is my function as the light of the world.18

• My salvation comes from me.19

• Salvation comes from my one Self.20

• God in His mercy wills that I be saved.21

• My Self is ruler of the universe.22

• Let me remember that there is no sin.23

• My present happiness is all I see.24

• I judge all things as I would have them be.25

Page 38: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

34

• In me salvation’s means and end are one.26

• I came for the salvation of the world.27

• There is no conflict, for my will is Yours.28

• My sinlessness protects me from all harm.29

• God’s answer is some form of peace. All pain Is healed; all misery replaced with joy. All prison doors are opened. And all sin Is understood as merely a mistake.30

The introduction page of Chapter 4, from the Course In Miracles website states, “Do not make the pathetic error of “clinging to the old rugged cross.” The only message of the crucifixion is that you can overcome the cross. Until then you are free to crucify yourself as often as you choose. This is not the gospel I intended to offer you. We have another journey to undertake, and if you will read these lessons carefully they will help prepare you to undertake it.” 31

Fr. Benedict J. Groeschel, C.F.R. was a psychologist who was an acquaintance of Helen Schucman. He gave a eulogy at her funeral. Fr. Groeschel wrote: “This woman who had written so eloquently that suffering really did not exist spent the last two years of her life in the blackest psychotic depression I have ever witnessed.” 32

This is the course taught daily on Oprah.com, by Marianne Williamson, the woman who says, “During the wee hours of the morning, both angels and demons take shape. . . .In those hours that I’ve lain so inconveniently awake, I think I’ve begun at last to know what awakened means. Noting the witching hour--4:15--at which I awake more often than not, stealing outside to look at the stars and marvel at the moon, I return again to my ancient self. In those hours, I am not a menopausal nutcase, I’m a magical witch, and I can feel it in my bones.” “We are here to participate in a glorious subversion of the world’s dominant, fear-based thought forms.” 33

Several times she credits Oprah Winfrey with direct assistance in furthering her work. In her 2004 book, The Gift of Change, Williamson writes: “To Oprah Winfrey, for creating my national audience to begin with and for continuing to support my work” and “Thanks to Oprah Winfrey and her generous enthusiasm for the book, my world changed. Money came that I had never had before, along with press attention and a slight celebrity status.” 34

Page 39: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

35

Christians, if I ended the book here, this should be enough to mobilize you into action. The forces that we are dealing with are bold and making their move at this point in history. Just think, this course is being offered to mainstream America. Not followers of Marilyn Manson, but to the mothers of the home.

Marianne Williamson is also the founder of “The Peace Alliance.” The Peace Alliance website states that it is, “a nonpartisan citizen action organization representing a growing constituency for peace, whose mission is to empower civic activism for a culture of peace.”35 The main item on the agenda: a cabinet-level U.S. Department of Peace.

They say that by giving the interests of peace a full cabinet position, it becomes a national priority. The website states, “The Secretary of Peace will advise and inform the President on matters of international conflict. If we are to adequately address and prevent conflict around the globe, peacebuilding experts need a seat at the table of power.”36

What have we as Christians been told about future prophecy concerning an international “peace” organization? We knew it was coming...did we know it was here?

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”

Chapter FourEckhart Tolle

We’ve saved the worst for last.

Did you watch The Oprah Winfrey Show during the month of February 2008? If you did, you must have heard them ask you, “Are You Ready to Be Awakened?”

On January 30, 2008, Oprah revealed the 61st Oprah’s Book Club selection, A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. She offered not just the book, but also a free, weekly online class, with every class corresponding to a chapter in the book. Classes begin March 3, 2008. Oprah.com states “Hundreds of thousands of you are signed up for Oprah and Eckhart Tolle’s 90-minute live Web event! You’ve emailed us from around the world. You’re healing, forgiving and awakening to your own life’s purpose.” 1

Each Oprah show starts out with a quick reminder to sign up for the interactive class. As it gets closer to class-time, we are now beginning to see clips more than a few minutes long, featuring celebrity testimonials to the ability to awaken and transform.

Again, what is this new book and lifestyle that Oprah is so eager to share? Glad you asked. We’ll start with the background of author Eckhart Tolle.

Tolle calls himself a contemporary spiritual teacher. Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, he travels the world teaching the concepts he has written about. Born in Germany; at the age of 13 he moved to Spain with his father, and quit going to school. His father allowed him to pursue his own interests, which were literature and astronomy and he became fluent in German, English, Spanish and French. He states in an interview that, “Even as a child I could already feel what later would become periods of intense

Page 44: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

40

depression—even as a child I would sometimes think, How can I eliminate myself from this world? How can I commit suicide? and was working out possibilities of how to do it.”2

When Tolle was fifteen a German woman came to visit and left him some books, among them were five books that were written by a German Mystic, early twentieth-century writer named Bo Yin Ra. He read the books and has stated that he responded very deeply and felt later that the books were left there for a purpose. He says, “They created an “opening” into that dimension.” 3

Despite his lack of formal schooling, he was able to enroll and graduated with the highest mark from the University of London. He became a research scholar and was a supervisor at Cambridge University.

According to Tolle, at the age of 29, a profound spiritual transformation virtually dissolved his old identity and radically changed the course of his life. The next few years were devoted to understanding, integrating and deepening the transformation.4

Tolle says, “I was unhappy, depressed and anxious. I was not trying to become enlightened or anything like that. I reached a point where the phrase came into my head, “I can’t live with myself any longer. That thought kept repeating itself again and again.“5

“Everything was totally alien and almost hostile. I later saw a book written by Jean-Paul Sartre called Nausea. That was the state that I was in, nausea of the world. [Chuckle] And the thought came into my head, “I can’t live with myself any longer.” That thought kept repeating itself again and again. And (then suddenly there was a “standing back” from the thought and Looking at that thought, at the structure of that thought,” If I cannot live with myself, who is that self that I cannot live with? Who am I? Am I one—or two?” And I saw that I was “two.” There was an “I,” and here was a self. And the self was deeply unhappy, the miserable self. And the burden of that I could not live with. At that moment, a dis-identification happened. “I” consciousness withdrew from its identification with the self, the mind-made fictitious entity, the unhappy “little me” and its story. And the fictitious entity collapsed completely in that moment, just as if a plug had been pulled out of an inflatable toy. What remained was a single sense of presence or “Beingness” which is pure consciousness prior to identification with form

Page 45: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

41

—the eternal I AM. I didn’t know all of that at the time, of course. It just happened, and for a long time there was no understanding of what had happened. He continues, “As the self collapsed, there was still a moment of intense fear—after all, it was the death of “me.” I felt like I was being sucked into a hole. But a voice from within said, “Resist nothing.” So I let go. It was almost like I was being sucked into a void, not an external void, but a void within. And then fear disappeared and there was nothing that I remember after that except waking up in the morning in a state of total and complete “newness.” 6

Tolle then started a period of study, through various spiritual books and contact with teachers. He picked up the New Testament and says, “I immediately understood at a deeper level the meaning of those words. I knew intuitively with absolute certainty that certain statements attributed to Jesus were added later, because they did not “emanate” from that place, that state of consciousness.”7

After the period of transformation and study, Tolle became known as a spiritual teacher and was even referred to as a healer. He’s authored four books, including: The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment (New York Times #1 bestseller); Practicing the Power of Now: Essential Teachings, Meditations, and Exercises from The Power of Now; Stillness Speaks; and A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose.

“He’s a slight man, described as having a “magical, elfin quality. He speaks very softly, but becomes quite animated and impassioned during the course of a lesson.”8 There is a peculiar chuckle that comes out like a twitter at unusual times. The internet has plenty of videos available to watch, just head over to YouTube.9 Although, I don’t recommend watching for long and not at all unless you are a protected Christian. Definitely not for children.

So what enlightened teachings are coming our way? Get ready for a book that will send chills down your spine just as sure as if you were actually clutching the Satanic bible. Because, that’s exactly what it is. The words of Satan channeled directly to this author.

The task of reading this book for review was not an easy one and with the completion of all research, will be better off when it is placed directly in it’s proper place, a fire pit.

• Tolle concludes that “a profound transformation is taking place in the collective consciousness of the planet and beyond” 10

• Tolle speaks of Jesus along with Buddha as being a messenger and said that their message became distorted along the way.11

The book is 315 pages; our study will condense the theories enough to show you just what Oprah would like us to embrace. Here’s what Mr. Tolle has to say.

• A glimpse is enough to initiate the awakening process, which is irreversible. 12

• The light of consciousness is all that is necessary. You are that light. 13

• Sin is a word that has been greatly misunderstood and misinterpreted. To sin means to miss the mark, so to sin means to miss the point of human existence. 14

• A growing number of followers of traditional religions realize that how “spiritual” you are has nothing to do with what you believe. 15

• ...humanity is now faced with a stark choice: Evolve or die. 16

• Inspiration for the title of this book came from a Bible prophecy” “...speaks of the collapse of the existing world order and the arising of “a new heaven and a new earth.” We need to understand here that heaven is not a location but refers to the inner realm of consciousness.17 • A discussion with a woman Tolle was counseling in her words. “ ...and suddenly I could feel the I Am-ness.” “... I can still feel it now, something very peaceful but very alive.” 18

• One thing we do know: Life will give you whatever experience is most helpful for the evolution of your consciousness.19

• The ultimate truth of who you are is not I am this or I am that, but I Am.20

• Jesus speaks of the innermost I Am, the essence identity of every man, every woman, every life-form, in fact.21

• Laws, commandments, rules, and regulations are necessary for those who are cut off from who they are, the Truth within.22

• Beware of making it your mission to “eradicate evil,” as you are likely to turn into the very thing you are fighting against.23

• Recognize the ego for what it is: a collective dysfunction, the insanity of the human mind. Once you see the ego for what it is, it becomes

Page 47: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

43

much easier to remain nonreactive toward it. There is no complaining, blaming, accusing, or making wrong. Nobody is wrong.24

• Awareness is the power that is concealed within the present moment. This is why we may also call it Presence. 25

• The source of all energy is within you. 26

• Most parents don’t talk to children as an equal. 27

• What difference does your parents approval or disapproval truly make to who you are? 28

• The man on the cross is an archetypal image. He is every man and every woman. 29

• In Zen they say: “Don’t seek the truth. Just cease to cherish opinion.” 30

• Almost everyone carries in his or her energy field an accumulation of old emotional pain, which I call “the pain-body.” 31

• Children’s pain-bodies sometimes manifest as moodiness or withdrawal. Fortunately, pain-body episodes in children are usually more short-lived than in adults. Perhaps the next day you can talk to the child about what happened. As questions. For example: “What was it that came over you yesterday when you wouldn’t stop screaming? Do you remember? What did it feel like? Was it a good feeling? No? If it had a name, what would it be called? If you could see it, what would it look like? What happened when it went away? Did it go to sleep? Do you think it may come back? All these questions are designed to awaken the witnessing faculty in the child, which is Presence. The next time the child gets taken over by the pain-body, you can say, “It’s come back, hasn’t it?” 32

• Who you are requires no belief. 33

• A wise man’s “maybe” signifies a refusal to judge anything that happens. Instead of judging what is, he accepts it and so enters into conscious alignment with the higher order. 34

• The Master responds to falsehood and truth, bad news and good news, in exactly the same way: “Is that so?” He allows the from of the moment, good or bad, to be as it is and so does not become a participant in human drama. To him there is only this moment, and this moment is as it is. 35

• Nonresistance is the key to the greatest power in the universe. 36

• Nonresistance, nonjudgement, and nonattachment are the three aspects of true freedom and enlightened living. 37

Page 48: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

44

• True happiness is not caused by the thing or event, although this is how it first appears. Here is another way of finding inner space: Become conscious of being conscious. Say or think “I Am” and add nothing to it. Be aware of the stillness that follows the I Am. Sense your presence, the naked, unveiled, unclothed beingness. It is the spacious womb of all creation, all form. 38

• Glimpses of awakening come only at the moment of the dissolution of an individual form, that is to say, death. And then begins the next incarnation, the next individual dream that is part of a collective dream...form detaches itself from the dissolving form and for a brief moment awakens to its essential immortal nature as consciousness; and then immediately falls back into sleep and reincarnates into another form. 39

• At the core of all utopian visions lies one of the main structural dysfunctions of the old consciousness: looking to the future for salvation. The arising of a new heaven and by implication a new earth are not future events that are going to make us free. Nothing is going to make us free because only the present moment can make us free. 40

• Your inner purpose is to awaken. It is as simple as that. You share the purpose with every other person on the planet - because it is the purpose of humanity. 41

• To awaken within the dream is our purpose now. When we are awake within the dream, the ego-created earth drama comes to an end and a more benign and wondrous dream arises. This is the new earth. 42

Eckhart Tolle’s words are more than chilling, “this book itself is a transformation device that has come out of the arising new conscious. The ideas and concepts presented here may be important, but they are secondary. They are more than signposts pointing toward awakening. As you read, a shift takes place within you.” 43

The teachings of Eckhart Tolle tends to make one feel nauseated, but then you remember what our Bible says in Luke 21:28: And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.

During the Oprah Winfrey Show, we are shown the ad for A New Earth, we hear beautiful, sweeping music as we see peaceful visions of the sun bursting through a forest. Oprah says “A New Earth is the fastest and biggest selling selection ever.” The publisher Brian Tart says, “What we’re seeing now

is so beyond what a bestseller is, it really is a phenomenon. We have nearly 5 million copies in print, the sales have been double, then triple. We have never had a book sell this quickly, and given what’s to come with these webcasts, it’s gonna shatter all the records.” Jim Carrey, the comedian says, “I think one of the most important questions people ask in life is, who am I and why am I here. This book gets as close to an answer as any book could ever get to an answer.” He also says, “A New Earth is one of the things that’s going to help facilitate a new consciousness on the planet.” Oprah says, “Being able to share this material with you is a gift and a part of the fulfillment of my life’s purpose,” “It was an awakening for me that I want for you, too.” 44

Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.

Chapter FiveObama

ABC News’ Donna Brazile asked the questions, “Does the Oprah effect hold true for politics too? Can Winfrey’s blessing turn a candidate into a president? She’s putting her brand next to his brand, and O plus O equals opportunity for Barack Obama to win in 2008.”1

There was no hiding the affection when Senator Obama appeared on Winfrey’s sofa last October and said: “Oprah, you’re my girl.” She has now repaid the compliments, referring to the senator as “my favorite guy” and “my choice.”2

At a Minnesota rally, Winfrey likened the senator to a prophet by saying, “When you listen to Barack Obama, when you really hear him, you witness a very rare thing: You witness a politician who has an ear for eloquence and a tongue dipped in the unvarnished truth.” 3

We’ve already been shown what it means to have the world’s most powerful woman backing you. What about the man? What do we know about Barack Obama?

“Obama’s ascent from rookie senator to presidential contender is one of the more startling and sudden acts in recent political history. Those around him aren’t quite sure what has happened, and neither, for that matter, is the senator himself. Obama says he experienced the change as a call from the crowds,” says Rolling Stone’s, Ben Wallace-Wells.4

Barack Hussein Obama was born Aug. 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii. His father, Barack Obama, Sr., was born in Kenya. Although Barack Obama, Sr. was brought up alongside with Muslim’s, he later became an Atheist.

Page 54: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

50

Obama’s mother, Ann Dunham, grew up in Wichita, Kansas, later moving to Hawaii. Barack’s parents married and divorced. Ann then married Lolo Soetoro, an East-West Center student from Indonesia. In 1967, the whole family moved to Jakarta, where Obama attended school in Jakarta from ages 6 to 10.

He moved back to Hawaii and lived with his grandparents. “He admitted using alcohol, marijuana and cocaine during his teenage years. Obama wrote in his 1995 book “Dreams of My Father” that he was once headed in the direction of a “junkie” and a “pothead.” “Referring to his emotional struggles as a young man, Obama wrote, “Pot had helped, and booze; maybe a little blow when you could afford it. Not smack, though.”5

Graduating from Columbia University in New York, in 1983 with a degree in political science, Obama moved to Chicago in 1985. It was during this time that Obama joined the Trinity United Church of Christ. Obama entered Harvard Law School in 1988, graduating magna cum laude in 1991.

After law school, Obama returned to Chicago to practice as a civil rights lawyer, joining the firm of Miner, Barnhill & Galland. He also taught at the University of Chicago Law School. He helped organize voter registration drives during Bill Clinton’s 1992 presidential campaign. Obama’s advocacy work led him to run for the Illinois State Senate as a Democrat. He was elected in 1996 from the south side neighborhood of Hyde Park. 6

The war with Iraq began in 2003 and Obama decided to run for the U.S. Senate. He won the 2004 Democratic primary, when he defeated businessman Blair Hull and Illinois Comptroller Daniel Hynes.

That summer, he was invited to deliver the keynote speech in support of John Kerry at the 2004 Democratic National Convention in Boston. “Wowed by Barack Obama’s keynote address at the Democratic convention, admirers began tossing around some heavyweight words, ...the sky’s the limit” and “great” and even the p-word: president.” 7

In November 2004, Obama became the third African-American elected to the U.S. Senate.

Page 55: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

51

Obama published his second book in October 2006, The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream. In February 2007, Obama announced his candidacy for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination.

In October 1992, Obama married his wife, Michelle, they had two daughters and now live in Kenwood on Chicago’s South Side.

In a new article posted March 3, 2008 on People.com, genealogist Rob-ert Barrett, traces the Democratic presidential hopeful’s roots. “Obama’s mother, Ann, brought to his gene pool a descent from the 17th-century plan-tation owner Mareen Duvall,” he told Britain’s Sunday Telegraph. “She is an ancestor of the Duchess of Windsor.” But that’s not all, according to the genealogist. “[Obama] has a rich mixture of European ancestors, including the early medieval kings of England and Scotland, a signatory of the Magna Carta, and, for good measure, an Irish emigrant from County Offaly,” he explained.8

Senator Barack Obama’s Muslim connections are usually what gets the most attention on his biography. From the time Obama declared his candidacy, he has had to had to address allegations that he is a Muslim and answer questions as to whether he had received any training in Islamic studies. Obama’s stepfather did occasionally attend services at a mosque in Indonesia.9 “If I were a Muslim, I would let you know, “ he said in Dubuque, Iowa recently, according to CNN.com. “But I’m a member of Trinity United Church of Christ on 95th Street on the South Side of Chicago.”10

What do we know about this Church? The New York Times reports that, “Oprah Winfrey has attended services, and many members are prominent black professionals. But the church is also more Afrocentric and politically active than standard black congregations.” 11 According to an article on CBS News.com, ”the roughly 8,000-member church has often championed liberal causes, from gay rights to opposition to the Iraq war. It also emphasizes its African roots and asks parishioners to accept the “Black Value System,” which includes tenets such as “commitment to the black family,” “dedication to the pursuit of education” and one critics have seized upon - “disavowal of the pursuit of ‘middleclassness.” 12

Page 56: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

52

Obama could have picked any church -- the spare, spiritual places in Hyde Park, the awesome pomp and procession of the cathedrals downtown. He could have picked a mosque, for that matter, or even a synagogue. Obama chose Trinity United. He picked Jeremiah Wright. Obama writes in his autobiography that on the day he chose this church, he felt the “spirit of black memory and history moving through Wright, and “felt for the first time how that spirit carried within it, nascent, incomplete, the possibility of moving beyond our narrow dreams.”13 An article in the New York Times quoted Wright, “When his (Obama’s) enemies find out that in 1984 I went to Tripoli” with Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan to visit Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi, “a lot of his Jewish support will dry up quicker than a snowball in hell.” 14

The New York Times reports, “On the Sunday after the terrorist attacks of 9/11, Mr. Wright said the attacks were a consequence of violent American policies. Four years later he wrote that the attacks had proved that “people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just ‘disappeared’ as the Great White West went on its merry way of ignoring Black concerns.” 15

Barack Obama has said that Reverend Wright is responsible for his interest in politics. He has often referred to him as his political and surrogate father.

According to Investors Business Daily, “The candidate already has heeded his church’s “nonnegotiable commitment to Africa,” spending an inordinateamount of his campaign time on the Kenyan crisis, for one. Obama has close family ties to Kenya, and even founded a school in his ancestral village — the Senator Obama School.” 16

From a report on MSNBC on February 24, 2008, “Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan said that presidential candidate Barack Obama is the “hope of the entire world” that the U.S. will change for the better. Farrakhan also said, “This young man is capturing audiences of black and brown and red and yellow. If you look at Barack Obama’s audiences and look at the effect of his words, those people are being transformed.” Farrakhan compared Obama to the religion’s founder, Fard Muhammad, who also had a white mother and black father. “A black man with a white mother became a savior to us,” he told the crowd of mostly followers. “A black man with a white mother could turn out to be one who can lift America from her fall.” 17

Page 57: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

53

So how did a man with such a varied background and questionable affiliations become the frontrunner for the Presidency of the United States?

Promanagers Weblog says, “The staggering rise of Barack Obama over the last ninety days carries many lessons that can be applied unilaterally in the corporate world. His meteoric rise to the front runner position for the Democratic Party Nomination is nothing short of a marketing coup of unprecedented proportions. Indeed what he and his team have done overthe past few months will be studied for decades.” 18

In an article from Worldnetdaily, “Call it the Barack Obama traveling salvation show – campaign rallies and speeches that seem like the secular counterpart of tent-meeting revivals and evangelistic sermons common in the U.S. a century ago. And, in apparent similarity to the religious enthusiasm of that bygone era, some of those coming to hear the Democrat presidential candidate “preach” his message are fainting as he speaks. While the string of faintings and the candidate’s response have impressed Obama’s supporters, others aren’t so certain.” 19 There have now been 7 documented incidents of fainting.

The Calgary Herald says, “what if God is trying to make a statement in 2008 through the meteoric rise of a new symbol -- a charismatic, eloquent senator from Illinois who is turning conventional American politics on its head?” 20

Can the nation’s reaction be explained? Here is what Obama himself had to say:

“My job is to be so persuasive that if there’s anybody left out there who is still not sure whether they will vote, or is still not clear who they will vote for, that a light will shine through that window, a beam of light will come down upon you, you will experience an epiphany ... and you will suddenly realize that you must go to the polls and vote for Obama” 21 New Hampshire. January 7, 2008

This is what others around the world are saying:

“At times, Obama almost seems to be trying to escape history, presenting himself as the conduit through which people’s yearnings for national transformation can be realized. Obama spoke for only twenty-five minutes and took no questions; he had figured out how to leave an audience at the peak of its emotion, craving

Page 58: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

54

more. As he was ending, I walked outside and found five hundred people standingon the sidewalk and the front steps of the opera house, listening to his last words in silence, as if news of victory in the Pacific were coming over the loudspeakers. Within minutes, I couldn’t recall a single thing that he had said, and the speech dissolved into pure feeling, which stayed with me for days.” 22

George Packer, New Yorker

Jan Young, 56, of Maple Grove, said the size and diversity of the crowd was unlike anything she had seen in politics in her lifetime. “It’s almost like the Messiah, you know?” said Young, a woman who said she originally backed Clinton but was drawn to Obama over the last year. “People really, really want change, and you feel it. You don’t just hear it -- you feel something coming from him.” 23

Obama Draws Throngs To Target Center WCCO.com. February 2, 2008

“But Obama is part politician, part cult. Supporters wearing T-shirts with an Andy Warhol like pop-art image of his face testify to that. But then they - him - were once easy to dismiss until people realized Obama’s charisma was being matched by one of the most sophisticated ground operations ever seen. It is one that is outsmarting the Clinton machine. He’s marrying inspiration and cult with old-fashioned politi-cal grunt. One would have to have a heart of stone not to be moved by Obama on the stump. It’s not so much by what he says but it’s the way the crowds respond to his words. When 16,000 people, without prompting, start shouting some of his keynote phrases as he delivers them, you know something special is going on. The atmosphere at his events is such that one wonders if Obama is about to walk out with a basket with some loaves and fishes to feed the thousands.”24

Washington correspondent Geoff Elliott. The Australian February 9, 2008

Chris Matthews, host of CNBC’s “Hardball,” recently remarked about “the feeling most people get when they hear a Barack Obama speech. I felt this thrill going up my leg. I mean -- I don’t have that too often!” 25

He was also quoted as saying, ““I’ve been following politics since I was about 5,” said Mr. Matthews. “I’ve never seen anything like this. This is bigger than Kennedy. [Obama] comes along, and he seems to have the answers. This is the New Testament. This is surprising.” 26

Page 59: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

55

“Obama’s finest speeches do not excite. They do not inform. They don’t even re-ally inspire. They elevate. They enmesh you in a grander moment, as if history has stopped flowing passively by, and, just for an instant, contracted around you, made you aware of its presence, and your role in it. He is not the Word made flesh, but the triumph of word over flesh, over color, over despair. The other great leaders I’ve heard guide us towards a better politics, but Obama is, at his best, able to call us back to our highest selves, to the place where America exists as a glittering ideal, and where we, its honored inhabitants, seem capable of achieving it, and thus of sharing in its meaning and transcendence.”27

Ezra Klein

“I would characterize the Senate race as being a race where Obama was, let’s say, blessed and highly favored,” Mr. Rush said, chuckling. “That’s not rou-tine. There’s something else going on.” What was he suggesting? “I think that Obama, his election to the Senate, was divinely ordered,” Mr. Rush said, all other explanations failing. “I’m a preacher and a pastor; I know that that was God’s plan. Obama has certain qualities that — I think he is being used for some purpose. I really believe that.” 28

Bill Rush

“He walks into a room and you want to follow him somewhere, anywhere,” 29

George Clooney told talk show host Charlie Rose

Actress Halle Berry told the Philadelphia Daily News “that she’s so in love with what Obama stands for, she would be willing to “collect paper cups off the ground to make his pathway clear.” 30

For Christena Weatherspoon of Struthers, it was like Barack Obama was inside her head. After the Democratic presidential candidate’s 45-minute address to at Youngstown State University, Weatherspoon said she was speechless. She said, “It was like he knows what I want.” 31

Oprah Winfrey said, “It’s amazing grace that brought me here,” she began, adding that she was “stepping out of my pew” - television – to engage in politics. It isn’t enough to tell the truth, Winfrey said. “We need politicians who know how to be the truth.” “I do believe I do today we have the answer to Miss Pittman’s ques-tion – it’s a question that the entire nation is asking – is he the one?” Winfrey said. “South Carolina – I do believe he’s the one.” “We’re all here to come together

Page 60: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

56

– to appreciate our uniqueness and to treasure our diversity, and we’re here to evolve to a higher plane,” she said. “The reason I love Barack Obama is because he is an evolved leader who can bring evolved leadership to our country.” 32

Oprah Winfrey, South Carolina 2007

“Mary Tyszko, a white, 50-year-old health worker, clutched her hands. “He has given me hope. I really believe in him. And I just trust him.” Then Mr Obama took to the stage. The noise was deafening, a long, exultant roar with all the force and overwhelming power of a jet engine before take-off. “Obama! Obama! Obama! Obamaaaaaaaaa!” they chanted. From four giant screens hanging from the ceiling, Mr Obama’s image could be seen from the farthest reaches of the stadium, waving, clapping at this adoring crowd, as they stared up at him with an almost mesmeric fervour. At one point in his speech, delivered in the religious cadence of Dr King, Mr Obama had to blow his nose. “Obama!” they chanted and clapped again, as their idol wiped his face.

This is a daily ritual for Mr Obama. Only 24 hours earlier, he appeared in a Mexican-American enclave of western San Antonio and drew a crowd as big as that which greeted Pope John Paul II when he visited the same area in September 1987. Three, sometimes four times a day, his Secret Service detail surrounding him, he is greeted by massive crowds, never before seen during a presidential primary campaign, filled with young and old, black and white, men and women, steelworkers and fund managers, nurses and accountants. No wonder he believes the White House is now within his reach.” 33

Tim Reid, The Times [UK] February 23, 2008

“Talk show monolith Oprah Winfrey welcomed more than $3.4M in donations for Barack Obama at her 9/08 fund-raiser, a Gastby-like affair at her 42-acre estate here on Santa Barbara’s pristine, pricey coast.

“I’m praying for this man,” Winfrey told the 1,500 guests traipsing her various lawns with their $2,300 tickets. “Nobody can stand in the way of destiny. Nobody. The moment is now.” 34

But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damna-ble heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 Peter 2:1

Chapter SixThe Power of Persuasion

“Newspaper journalist Edward Hunter coined the term during the Korean War to describe mind control used on American POWs who defected to Korea and China. In his 1956 book “Brain-Washing,” Hunter, later revealed to be a CIA propagandist, described “a system of befogging the brain so a person can be seduced into acceptance of what otherwise would be abhorrent to him.” 1

“In 1925 Adolf Hitler wrote Mein Kampf, and gave the world an opportunity to see into his mind. Hitler wrote about the Nazi movement from its infancy, and gave us insights as to his intentions. Mein Kampf contains two chapters on propaganda (War Propaganda, and Propaganda and Organization), and Hitler laid out an extensive propaganda plan in his book, a plan that would change the history of the world. According to Hitler, “The task of propaganda lies not in a scientific training of the individual, but rather in directing the masses towards certain facts, events, necessities, etc.,” Hitler also said, “The people, in an overwhelming majority, are so feminine in their nature and attitude that their activities and thoughts are motivated less by sober consideration than by feeling and sentiment.” “Now the purpose of propaganda is to convince; that means, to convince the masses. The masses, however, with their inertia, always need a certain time before they are ready even to notice a thing, and they will lend their memories only to the thousandfold repetition of the most simple ideas.” 2

“.... repetition of the most simple ideas.”

What does this have to do with our subject? In just the study of Eckhart Tolle’s, A New Earth, if you pay particular attention, you notice the use of repetitive words in conjunction with nonsensical phrases. The following

Page 66: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

62

words were the most often repeated, exactly how they appeared (capitalization) and the number of times they appeared:

• I Am - Over 19 times • The Now - Over 19 times • unhappiness - Over 29 times • Jesus - Referenced Jesus or his teachings - Over 35 times • Presence - Over 51 times • Being/Beingness - Over 59 times • awake/awakening/wake up - Over 64 times • role - Over 70 times • pain-body - Over 164 times

As previously stated in the chapter covering A Course In Miracles, people will eventually believe just by doing repetitive constant exercises.

Margaret Thaler Singer, a psychologist and expert on brainwashing and cults, said in an article Six Conditions for Thought Reform, “Keep the person unaware of what is going on and how she or he is being changed a step at a time. Potential new members are led, step by step, through a behavioral-change program without being aware of the final agenda or full content of the group.” 3

In 1961, Robert J. Lifton wrote the definitive book on the subject Thought Reform and the Psychology of Totalism after studying the effects of mind control on American prisoners of war under the Communist Chinese. One of the factors Robert Lifton describes is the concept of “Loading the Language.” He said, “The group interprets or uses words and phrases in new ways so that often the outside world does not understand. This jargon consists of thought-terminating clichés which serve to alter members’ thought processes to conform to the group’s way of thinking.” 4

Oxford Hypnotherapy advises that, “Hypnosis can be described as a state of deep relaxation where the hypnotized subject experiences a heightened level of awareness coupled with a narrowing of their focus of attention. This hypnotic state is called trance. To be in a trance does not mean to be asleep, although it can sometimes look that way, but in fact the opposite is true.” 5

Page 67: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

63

“We know now that men can be made to do exactly anything…..It’s all a question of finding the right means. If only we take enough trouble and go sufficiently slowly, we can make him kill his aged parents and eat them in a stew.” Jules Romains 6

“According to Adolf Hitler, “In every great revolutionary movement propaganda will first have to spread the idea of the movement. That means, it will untiringly try to make clear to the others the new train of thought, to draw them over to its own ground, or at least to make them doubtful of their own previous conviction.” 7

We were curious about just how much “spirit” related information might be coming through to us in an average week of watching our favorite afternoon show, so we decided to do an informal analysis.

Here’s a brief synopsis for four days, February 25-28, 2008:

• Monday, Feb. 25: Guest - Valerie Bertinelli 8

Valerie : “There are still those negative voices…Eckhart Toll where are you when I need you?” 8

Oprah: “Are you reading A New Earth?” 8

Valerie: “I’m on page 45, but I’m signed up for the class.” 8

Valerie: “I wasn’t living in the moment.” 8

Valerie: “If it’s true your thoughts can affect your place in the universe, I was going to give it a try. I really prayed for a lightness of being.” 8 Oprah: “Soon after that moment, praying for a lightness of being and using the law of attraction.” 8

Valerie: “I got that from watching your show.” 8

New Earth ad ran 3 times, one lasting approximately 3 minutes. 8

• Tuesday, Feb. 26: A New Earth ad ran 1 time 9

• Wednesday, Feb. 27: Profiled unusual lifestyles: “Freegans” and a single mother, whose job is stripper by night 10

Page 68: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

64

Oprah while discussing the Freegan lifestyle, brings us A New Earth to compare. Says, “The whole premise is who we really are vs. our egos.” 10

In the commercial for the next day’s show, Oprah says, “There is the real you that is trying to burst forth. Learn how to claim your miraculous mid-life” 10

Profiles the next guest, Marion, described as a 43 year-old single mother who does typical motherly things, except for becoming “Charlie” a stripper at night to make a living. The show explains that she had to make this choice to be able to make good money while having more time to stay home with her children. 10

Marion says, “ I even prayed before I started working there. I said, “Lord, don’t condemn me.” “It’s what I do, not who I am.” 10

Commercial for the next day’s show. Oprah: “There is the real you that is trying to burst forth.” 10

Marion: “I feel victorious now, because I have a life and I’m happy.” 10

Oprah says, “We have absolutely no right to judge you for a choice you’ve made. How many moms can work 3 days per week?” 10

New Earth ad ran approximately 3 times. 10

1st Ad: Oprah: “I love hearing how A New Earth has begun to change you.” 10 Music starts and shows video clips of fans. The first one says, “I’m in the process of letting go.” Second clip, “I’ve started going through my closets to purge from the house.” 10 Oprah: “You’re healing, forgiving, awakening to your own life’s purpose.” 10

2nd Ad, short audio with book in background and same music.

Oprah: “Coming up…how you can be a part of the most exciting thing I have ever done.” 10

3rd Ad : Oprah says, “This is the most valuable thing you can do for yourself.” 10

• Thursday, Feb. 27: Guest - Marianne Williamson, with her newest book, The Age of Miracles 11

This show was almost entirely New Age philosophy, since Marianne Williamson was the guest, so we will highlight a sampling of what we saw on this program.

The prelude to the show, Oprah says, “Make the shift. Claim your miraculous mid-life.” 11

Oprah: “I want you to believe that 50 and beyond can literally be the most miraculous and I do mean miracle, miracle, miracles occurring in your life after 50 years old.” 11

In a clip of celebrity quotes, Goldie Hawn says: “You have to ask yourself deep down, what is inside this shell, because the shell does dissipate.” 11

Oprah: “I know, because I speak to millions of people everyday, what you project out into the world comes back to you, the more people you project it to the stronger it comes back.” 11

Marianne Williamson: “No one forces you to think anything other than what you choose to think and you really can, you know, the Course of Miracles says, “We achieve so little because we have undisciplined minds and you should exercise your mind, just like you exercise your body. Reframing mid-life crisis into mid-life process.” 11

Oprah: “On my 50th birthday, all the women at the table wrote me letters on cards, I keep them by my bedside. Yours (Marianne’s) is on top, this is how I refuel myself and this is what you wrote me:”11 “In that holy place, where you tell Him everything and He understands (Oprah starts crying) there are angels who stand in wait to hear His every command. How many serve you and increase your joy? I stand with them, for this you have done for me.” 11

Oprah: “So, you’re saying that it’s possible for every woman (and men, too), to do their own ceremony. Sometimes you want to just go out with the girls and celebrate with margaritas, but there needs to be a process.” 11

Page 70: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

66

Marianne: “You can compare it to a coming of age ceremony in adoles-cence. If we mark it with honor it goes from crisis to process, to honor to ritual, and your whole spirit rises to meet that.” 11

Oprah: “You can find Marianne’s ceremony (Ceremony of the Elder: A Rite of Midlife) on Oprah.com and by ceremony I mean there’s an actual process you go through.” 11

A New Earth ad ran approximately 4 times. 11

4th ad - Approximately 3 minutes.

Oprah: “Our readers are emailing us about the profound changes they are already witnessing after reading A New Earth.” 11

Video clip, fan says: “I can’t believe my transformation. The ego in my head has told me for years that I’m a victim, and I’m not and I hold that power within me.” 11

Oprah says: “ The book has changed so many people already and I’m into my 3rd read of the book and I can’t tell you the difference it’s made for my own life personally.” 11

Now we can see how the message that Oprah wants to convey to us is being piped into our heads, consistently and repeatedly.

“She reaches more people in one day than most preachers can hope to reach in a lifetime. Kathryn Lofton, professor at Reed College said, “She’s a really hip Mother Teresa,” she went on to comment that “she has emerged as a symbolic figurehead.” 12

Oprah said on the February 28 show: “I really do believe I was born to be a vehicle for this information to come to all of you. If you want to be a part of it, if you want to find out who you really are, join the largest interactive classroom in the world. It’s free, because I want to begin to transform the world one reader at a time.” 11

Page 71: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

67

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against

spiritual wickedness in high places.

Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Ephesians 6:11-13

Chapter SevenThe Truth Revealed

What words are sufficient to say with the revealing of the truth? It is a humbling experience to be shown things that are actually right in front of us, but we are too busy or too blind to see.

How do I feel now that the initial shock has worn off? It is a mixture of urgency and elation. Even with the revelations of what is going on all around us and dealing with the heaviness of having to delve into these dark and vile teachings, it stirs up excitement over the fact that we can see pieces of the puzzle that have been there, slowly being put into place all along.

What do we do with this information?

If you are not already born again, saved and ready to meet Jesus Christ, that is the first step in your journey. You may call or visit the website listed at the end of this book for more information on how you can become a child of the only Living God and be ready for the things that are to come to pass.

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt be-lieve in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

Romans 10:9

Page 74: DontDrinktheKoolaid eBook

70

If you are a Christian, the first thing I would recommend is that we get on our knees before the Almighty God and give praise to the one and only way we will ever be saved from this world of sin. By the very nature of the word Christian, we are sometimes isolated from the world and the dark side of what is in it. We should ask for enlightenment to be aware of what’s going on around us everyday and not be lulled into a sense of complacency. When you review how long this campaign has taken to win our trust and how long it took to finally realize something was off kilter, you just shake your head and vow to be more vigilant.

We must tell others! The lives of the average American family are at stake and we can’t allow this to go on any longer. If we don’t stop buying into the lie, stop watching our favorite TV program, stop quenching that “still small voice” of the Holy Spirit, we can’t even reach our families, let alone be a beacon for the unsaved. Time to turn off the TV ladies, find another afternoon ritual that is Christ-based or lets start our own show that we can turn to for the right kind of inspiration.

What will it take to get you mobilized and on a mission to tell the world what lies are being propagated?

We need to ask the Lord for: • The power to fight for our families and even our own minds • The courage to speak out without fear of the consequences.

We Need To Pray• Every Monday night be in prayer at the same time as the online classroom at Oprah.com is being transmitted to participants around the world.

Do any Christians in this country have what it takes to stand up and be counted?

Most importantly, we must develop an overwhelming urgency to make sure that all know...what lies behind the mask.

An Open Letter To Oprah Winfrey

Dear Oprah:

You will probably never read this letter. But just in case, I want you to know that my intention is only to enlighten and educate those who are following your every word for guidance.

I was one of those millions of women who grew up over the years, looking forward to your programs and thought that it was one of the few talk shows that I could trust. It’s been a wake-up call for me to always be on the alert. My prayer is that the spell that is over you will be broken and you will return to your spiritual roots and to the One True God, Jesus Christ. You know the right way, but your eyes are covered and the light can’t get in.

I will be praying for you.
