Transcript of Don't Judge a Book By It's Cover
This activity teaches students about their own preconceived notions.
All that is needed is a novel that peeks the child’s interest and some patience!
THE ACTIVITY
MATERIALS NEEDED
A book the child/student is interested in reading
but has not yet read
Paper
Pencil
Envelope
Let the student write about what they think the book is about.
Encourage them to get into detail and predict what will happen in the story, who the main characters are and what they are like and whatever comes to mind.
ONLY LOOK AT THE OUTSIDE COVER OF THE BOOK!
SAVE IT FOR LATER
Put the predictions in a sealed envelope and keep hidden
until after they are finished reading the book.
When the book is complete reveal the envelope.
Have the student analyze what they wrote and how their
opinions have changed.
Use this time to
talk about
prejudices and
making
judgments on
others.
.
It will be an
enlightening
experience for
all!
