A Mission and A Plan: A Year of RECALCULATING WHAT A YEAR IT HAS BEEN! OUR BOARD COMPLETED A STRATEGIC PLANNING PROCESS THAT LED TO SEVERAL EXCITING NEW DEVELOPMENTS FOR THE FRAZER CENTER. First, we developed a comprehensive sense of our purpose, role and contribution to children and adults with disabilities in the larger community. Further, we began to craft a shared sense of vision for our future. Second, we discerned the kind of leadership we need to help bring that vision to fruition. Third, we revised our MISSION STATEMENT to more accurately capture our current work, and we drafted five new GUIDING PRINCIPLES to shape our work as we achieve our goals and dreams. Fourth, In January 2011, we approved a comprehensive STRATEGIC PLAN to guide us in this process for the next three to five years. We are very grateful for the leadership of Henry Wyche, our former Board Chair, for Elizabeth Ledet, Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, and for our entire board for this out- standing effort! Our programmatic achievements throughout the year were equally note- worthy. Our Child Development Program had its ACCREDITATION renewed by NAEYC. Our Adult Program began what continues to be an exciting process of PROGRAMMATIC TRANSFORMATION. We had our most successful year of events in the Cator Woolford Gardens. We have restructured our organizational leadership, revised and renewed Board and employee policies to make our operations more consistent with current BEST PRACTICES , and we launched a CAPITAL INITIATIVE for $1.02 million to address 23 projects across The Center that will help refresh our infrastructure for the next decade of our work. To date we have already received $550,000 in commitments toward this initiative! For a place that has such a rich history, there is always a chance that we could rest on our laurels. We are confident that we have the Board and staff leadership to help us continue to strive for the kinds of excellence in all of our work that will allow everyone who joins our community to gather, learn and flourish together! A Mission and A Plan: A Year of

RECALCULATING WHAT A YEAR IT HAS BEEN!

We are very grateful for the leadership of Henry Wyche, our former Board Chair, for Elizabeth Ledet, Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, and for our entire board for this out-standing effort!

Our programmatic achievements throughout the year were equally note-worthy. Our Child Development Program had its ACCREDITATION renewed by NAEYC. Our Adult Program began what continues to be an exciting process of PROGRAMMATIC TRANSFORMATION. We had our most successful year of events in the Cator Woolford Gardens. We have restructured our organizational leadership, revised and renewed Board and employee policies to make our operations more consistent with current BEST PRACTICES, and we launched a CAPITAL INITIATIVE for $1.02 million to address 23 projects across The Center that will help refresh our infrastructure for the next decade of our work.

We’re grateful to all who support us in our mission, and we hope you will visit us soon!

OUR INSTRUCTIONAL YEAR WAS BOOK-MARKED BY TWO KEY ACCOMPLISHMENTS THAT HAVE ASSISTED US IN RESETTING OUR COURSE. We began the year by receiving news that NAEYC’s accreditation of our Child Develop-ment Programs was renewed for another five years. NAEYC program standards are very stringent and the process of seeking renewal is demanding, so we have a lot to celebrate! At the end of the year, new instructional leaders were hired for both the Child Devel-opment and Adult Programs, creating a deep bench of expertise for both programs. The team is committed to functioning as one in-tegrated whole in accomplishing our mission.

Strategic Plan Highlights

INSTRUCTION RESET

Projects included such diverse

efforts as the replacement of over

20 HVAC units to heat and cool

our facility, a new sewer line,

new paths for safer entry and exit

from the facility, new signage to

make our space more welcoming

of visitors, new educational tech-

nology for our programs, and a

new phone system for the Center.

We are very excited about our

progress, having already secured

$550,000 of our goal!

On April 15, 2011, over 200 Frazer Center sup-porters and residents from the Druid Hills, Lake Claire, Decatur, Candler Park and nearby in-town neighborhoods enjoyed an elegant party featur-ing wine and beer tastings, an auction and live music in the Cator Woolford Gardens. While this was surely a night to remember, the real success was raising $25,000 to support our crucial work with children and adults.

Our 10th Annual Golf Classic was held at the legendary East Lake Golf Club on May 3, 2011. The event, co-chaired by Justin Hayes and Peggy Orson, netted $25,762 for The Frazer Center’s programs. We are extremely grateful for the following sponsors, players and donors who supported this event:

SimpleC A program that was originally designed for use by senior adults, SimpleC has been implemented at The Frazer Center to help improve the level of functionality of individuals with mild to moderate cognitive impairment. Weekly computer training is provided for our adults using 11 new state-of-the-art touch-screen computers equipped with modified keyboards for easy access and usabil-ity. The program has helped to improve communi-cation and has enhanced a sense of community.

This summer, we launched a new summer camp in cooperation with the Marcus Autism Center called ―Camp You Be You;‖ an inclusive camp for children with autism. This camp was geared towards teaching valuable social skills to children ages 4-9 – both children with autism and their neu-rotypical peers. While it was a new effort, campers and leaders celebrated the wonderful experience, and we are already looking forward to next summer!
