This is Erica. As a member of Girl Scout Troop 237, she coordinated a program with her softball team called “Fight Like A Girl” to raise awareness for breast cancer. Erica made special bracelets with small beads to represent the size of a breast tumor that can only be detected by a mammogram and one large bead to represent the size of a breast tumor a woman can actually feel. She also held bake sales and sold “PINK OUT” t-shirts. The money raised was used to purchase scarves, hats, prosthetics, and other special items for women who are recovering from breast cancer at the Steeplechase Cancer Center at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.

This is Garry. A few months ago he suffered a stroke at work. Luckily, a colleague had been trained to recognize the signs of stroke and was able to stabilize Garry until an ambulance arrived and transported him to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. Garry made a full recovery. To thank the team at RWJUH he made a gift to the Advanced Stroke Life Support Program so that more people like his colleague can be trained to provide life-saving assistance to victims of stroke.

This is Kevin and his daughter, Bridget. At 3 years old Bridget was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia and immediately began treatment at The Bristol-Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. It was a frightening and stressful experience for Kevin and his family. But the expert care Bridget received – as well as the love and personal attention from the staff – made all the difference. To thank the team at RWJ for his daughter’s care, Kevin volunteers as the co-chair of our Children’s Health golf outing, which raises over $100,000 in unrestricted support for pediatric patients annually.

This is Linda. One warm summer day she felt unusually tired and was perspiring. After a good night’s rest, she could barely get out of bed and knew something was wrong. Her primary care physician performed a physical along with an EKG. Linda was shocked to learn that she had suffered a heart attack. She was rushed to RWJ University Hospital Hamilton where doctors discovered two major blockages in her arteries and immediately inserted stents. Linda has been listening to her heart ever since, and to thank the team at RWJ Hamilton, she made a gift to support cardiac rehabilitation services for patients just like her.
