Uses Of Calculus In Other sciencesA Mechanical Engineer Uses calculus in his job like (
Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus, Multivariable Calculus).
My example will be about mechanical engineer Heat transfer calculations.
For Heat transfer calculations they use q = m(DT)Cp
Where :1. q = heat transferred, 2. DT = the change in temperature3. Cp = the specific heat.
Uses Of Calculus In Other sciencesExample:Aluminum has a specific heat of 0.902 J/g x oC.
How much heat is lost when a piece of aluminum with a mass of 23.984 g cools from a temperature of 415.0 oC to a temperature of 22.0 oC?
Step 1: Write the original formula. q = m(DT)Cp
Uses Of Calculus In Other sciencesStep 2: List the known and unknown
factors. Looking at the units in the word problem will help you determine which is which.
q = ?m = 23.984 gDT = (415.0 oC - 22.0 oC) = 393.0 oC
(remember, they asked for the change in temperature)Cp = 0.902 J/g x oC
Uses Of Calculus In Other sciencesStep 3 : Substitute your values into the
formula q = m(DT)Cpq = 23.984 g x 393.0 oC x 0.902 J/g x oC
Step 4: Cross out units where possible, and solve for unknown.
q = 23.984 g x 393.0 oC x 0.902 J/g x oCq = 8501.992224 Jq = 8.50 x 103 J
I cant believe that we did it!
