  • Every Sicilian is bilingual, they say in Italian, which is the official language, but also the Sicilian language. Sicilian language has many dialects. It comes from Latin. Eastern and western Sicily has to the difference in language, but for a foreigner these differences aren't large. But if somebody know Italian language, you can easily see difference of these two languages. Knowing Italian can guess what Sicilian language means. But everyone knows Italian and only speak in the language for foreigners.

  • But the most, what amazed me is their Sicilian cuisine. It is probably one of the most varied cuisine in Italy. From vegetables and meats until the wonderful seafood. Looking for information about Sicily, I came across a lot of delicious regulations that will implement in the near future. Arancini di riso-rice balls stuffed with meat and vegetables, then dipped in batter and fried. It is a mandatory food in Sicily Caponata-in Polish cookbooks called eggplant in sweet and sour sauce, and in fact it is a little bit true, but not entirely. The components are: eggplant, celery cheese, onions, tomatoes, capers and spices. Everything is fried. You can find many types of Caponata.

  • Pasta-of course, many different types, all kinds of extras, who likes what :) Fish and seafood-you can find lots of delicious fish, such as swordfish, sea bass, sea bream and red mullet and seafood: shrimp, squid, octopus, lobster, mussels, clams. Meat-as in Poland is a popular beef and pork, and recently the lamb. Poultry isn't as well known. Vegetables- vegetables are certainly highly varied. An eggplants, a tomato and the green beans, potatoes, zucchini, peas and beans. In the spring artichokes in large quantities. Fruits-especially oranges, peaches, apples, pears, grapes, cherries, watermelons and melons. Sweets- base is tiramisu, which can be found throughout Italy. Also liked pana cotta, which I think is very best desserts : ) A Sicilian desserts are Cannoli- "envelope" of dough similar to our faworki dough, filled with sweet ricotta cheese, Cassata, sponge cake with sweet ricotta and fruit and Semifreddo, chilled dessert with almonds, covered chocolate.
