Geography

The majority of the Dominican Republic enjoys beautiful tropical weather all year round, with the average annual temperature hovering around 25°C (77°F). Some call the Dominican Republic's climate, 'the endless summer', due to warm and sunny conditions experienced pretty much everywhere in the country, all year round.

History

The Dominican Republic occupies the eastern two-thirds of the island of Hispaniola, in the Greater Antilles. Successive waves of Arawak migrants, moving northward from the Orinoco delta in South America, settled the islands of the Caribbean. Around A.D. 600, the Taíno Indians, a late Stone Age culture, arrived on the island, displacing the previous inhabitants. They were organized into cacicazgos, each led by a cacique. The final Arawak migrants, the Caribs, began moving up the Lesser Antilles in the 1100s, and were raiding Taíno villages on the island's eastern coast by the time the Spanish arrived.

Entertainment

Musically, the Dominican Republic is known for the creation of the musical style called merengue. Merengue became popular in the United States, mostly on the East Coast, during the 1980s and 90s. Dominican artists: Víctor Roque y La Gran Manzana, Henry Hierro, Zacarías Ferreira, Aventura, Milly, and Jocelyn Y Los Vecinos.

Civilization

Spanish is the official language of the country and which street signs and restaurant menus are written in. Even though the people linked to the tourist trade generally speak English, knowing some Spanish is a great advantage.

The peso is the national currency. There are coins of 1 and 5 pesos and then there are bills for RD$ 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 2000.

They sell drugs to the people that come and they export also drugs to other countries. The countries that had been more affected were Colombia and Europe.

People of Dominican Republic don´t produce anything. The government doesn´t do nothing to repair that. The government, they don´t talk, they don´t do anything to improve and get better life quality.
