The Flagof Dominican republic

Quartered with a white cross, first and fourth fields blue, second and third red.

The origin of colours is said to be from both the Haitian and French flag, although its symbolisms are different.

The blue is said to stand for Liberty, red for the fire and blood of the independence struggle and the white cross is a symbol of sacrifice.

• There are all different types of sport in the Dominican republic e.g.; basketball, baseball, golf, soccer. Many of Dominican republic baseball players go on to play with major baseball teams in America

• The population in the Dominican republic is estimated at 10,090,000

Wildlife

In the Dominican republic there is a verity of birds and lizards e.g. green tail ground warbler microligea palustris or the sterma maxima that lives near the waters of the Dominican republic.                      

The languages

• The official language in the Dominican Republic is Spanish.

• Most people involved in tourism understand and speak at least some English, if not other major tourism related languages, such as German and French.

National anthem

• Quisqueyanos valences is the national anthem of the Dominican Republic. Its music was composed in1835-1905, and its lyrics were written in 1856-1932. The first public performance of Himno Nacional or National Anthem took place on August 17, 1883 at the Masonic Lodge No.9

The capital

• Santo Domingo, or Santo Domingo de Guzmán, is the capital and largest city in the Dominican Republic. Its metropolitan population was 2,084,852 in 2003, and estimated at 2,253,437 in 2006. The city is located on the Caribbean Sea, at the mouth of the Osama River.

Politics

• The Dominican Republic President is Lionel Fernandez born 26 December 1953 he was elected president on the 16th of august 2004 He was born in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, His family moved to the United States and he spent his childhood and formative years in Washington Heights, New York City.

Currency

The peso oro is the currency of the Dominican Republic. Its symbol is $, with RD$ used when distinction from other pesos or dollars is required.Each peso is divided into 100 centavos, for which the ¢ symbol is used. It is the only currency which is legal tender for all monetary transactions, whether public or private, in the Dominican Republic.
