Dear Parents and Guardians, It is hard to believe that we are at the end of May already and the end of the school year is in sight. We will continue to focus on our academics through the next several weeks of school. Our ASK testing is complete! I would like to thank our parents for making sure our children were present in school, on time, and ready to do their best on the test. The ASK tests were certainly demanding and required a great deal of focus from our students. Having our students prepared and focused gave them the advantage to successfully rise to the challenge. We would like to also thank our PTO for recognizing the students’ hard work and dedication by treating them to an Italian ice treat at the end of their testing.

Our spring choral, band and orchestra concerts will be held during the next week. I have heard the students practicing and they sound amazing! What talented students we have here at Intermediate North! Our spring sports are also coming to an end of their seasons. Our students have reached new heights and many of them have improved upon their “personal bests” as the seasons progressed. Our eighth graders are getting closer to graduation time. The dance will be held on Friday, June 14 from 6- 8 pm. Our graduation ceremony will be held at the Pine Belt Arena at 3:00 pm on Thursday, June 20. Due to the size of our graduating class, each graduate will receive a maximum of five tickets. Details regarding distribution will be forth coming.

We would like to congratulate our eighth graders as they move on to High School North or alternate locations. Where did the three years go? You joined us as children and are leaving as young ladies and gentlemen. What a transformation! We are very proud of your hard work and accomplishments. We wish you the best and hope you continue to find success and follow your dreams. Thanks for all of the talents and fond memories you have shared with us over the last few years. We will miss you! Student Council The Student Council has had a very busy year, as always! We have assisted with food drives, sold drinks and snacks at dances, helped with PTO popcorn sales as well as done many fun fundraising activities for the March of Dimes. This included penny wars, silly string your teacher, and bake sales, to name a few. Our final activity will be decorating for the 8th grade dance. What a productive and fun year!

CYCLE 73 NEWS

Cycle 73 created a totem pole during the winter months of the school year. We read the novel Touching Spirit Bear and wanted to recreate the totem and learn about the heritage of Alaskan Indian Tribes called the Tlinglit. It was achieved by the tireless efforts of Mrs. Amy Norton and our students. We inducted it to the media center on Earth Day, where it will be displayed for years to come.

In addition on Earth Day, Cycle 73 created Recyclable Robots. We used our own recyclable materials to create robots of our own and learned about how the environment is impacted by

different types of materials we use every day.

ART UPDATES Congratulations to our students who represented Intermediate North during Youth Art Month at the Ocean County Exhibit at Magnolia Gardens. Noelle DeBiase, Abbey McGovern and Niko Lattanzio all participated. Katie DeNardo’s project earned “Best in Show”! Noelle was also recognized as one of four TRRS winners at AENJ’s Your Art Month. Her painting was placed at the Trenton State House during the month of March. GREAT JOB to everyone!

Interact Club

Intermediate North’s Interact Club has been busy this spring. The “Football Food Drive” in the end of January was a huge success with over 60 boxes of food donated to two food pantries. “Read Across America” in March was also a great event. Our 8th graders visited North Dover elementary and read books to the students. Interact students also prepared lessons to do with the children. We collected items for two summer baskets that were donated to a gift auction benefitting one of Toms River students who is fighting cancer. The students also had fun constructing flower cards for the residents of a local nursing home.

So long 8th grade Interact students….. We will miss you!

Cycle 63's Milky Way Music Show

Cycle 63 eagerly prepared creative lyrics about the planets to one of their favorite songs. They incorporated instruments, props, and dance to each song. They even made shirts to add to the presentation.Some groups called themselves "The Rockets", "The Luna Ladies" "The Asteroids" "The Little Dippers" and "The Galaxy Girls". "Solar Flare Frank" was burning up the stage with a fever of 150,000 degrees Celsius." Markury" lead the group in Moon 7. The "Ninja Planets" did not miss a step. This "Space Mission" was a memorable project. "Viva La Space" had the audience mesmerized with their voices and instrumental performances arranged by "Meterorite Richard". The songs were enjoyed by all and are still playing in our heads. "Oh! Oh-oh! Planets! Planets! Planets!" It was a very entertaining and educational day in Mrs. Vacca's sixth grade science class. "That was fun!" said Emma Eclipse. A special thanks to Brielle for assisting production and adding a special touch to the room decor and our closing number.Cycle 63 remember -You are all beautiful!!!

“Stop the Drama” to Bring Anti-Bully Message to

Elementary Schools

This May, several Intermediate North actors will be bringing their anti-bullying

message to 4th and 5

th graders at Citta, North Dover, West Dover, and Walnut Street

Elementary Schools, with guidance from Mrs. Zuzic.

Three years ago, two Intermediate East staff members piloted an anti bullying

program entitled, “Stop the Drama.” The premise was to take

essays written by several elementary school, 4th and 5

th

graders about their personal experiences with bullying and

harassment. These writings were then converted into a 45

minute “situational theatre,” experience. The actors were

selected from the musical theatre cast and they write and

create the show itself. Due to its incredible success, this

program was brought to all the elementary schools within the

district last year.

Cycle 84 Holds a Career Day

In conjunction with the math career project for the 4th

quarter, cycle 84 is holding a Career Day for its students. On June 5, parents, friends and community members will speak to the students and share the related school subjects, education/training required, personal skills needed, and a typical day in their career. The students will also explore how mathematics is used in each job in order to make what they learn in class more relevant.
