The Dolby Fidelio Transmitter (Fidelio TX) shall be mounted with a separation distance of atleast 20 cm from any person. The Dolby Fidelio Receiver (Fidelio RX) antenna shall be at least5 mm away from any person and at least 20 mm away from any other antenna.

The Dolby CaptiView Transmitter, or any other antenna, shall at least be 20 cm away from theDolby Fidelio Transmitter antenna. The Dolby CaptiView Transmitter shall not be connectedto the Dolby Fidelio Transmitter.

Never touch the AC plug with wet hands. Always disconnect the Dolby Fidelio wireless audiosystem from the power supply by pulling on the plug not the cord. Allow only a DolbyLaboratories, Inc. dealer or qualified professional engineer to repair or re-assemble the DolbyFidelio wireless audio system. Apart from voiding the warranty, unauthorized engineersmight touch live internal parts and receive a serious electric shock. Do not put, or allowanyone to put any object, especially metal objects, into the Dolby Fidelio wireless audiosystem. Use only an AC power supply. Never use a DC power supply.

If water or any other liquid is spilled into or onto the Dolby Fidelio wireless audio system,disconnect the power and call a Dolby Laboratories, Inc. dealer. The unit must be wellventilated and away from direct sunlight. To avoid damage to internal circuitry, as well as theexternal finish, keep the Dolby Fidelio wireless audio system away from direct sources ofheat (heater vents, stoves, radiators). Avoid using flammable aerosols near the Dolby Fideliowireless audio system. They can damage the surface area and may ignite. Do not usedenatured alcohol, paint thinner or similar chemicals to clean the Dolby Fidelio wireless audiosystem. This can damage the unit.

Modification of this equipment is dangerous and can result in the functions of the DolbyFidelio wireless audio system being impaired. Never attempt to modify the equipment in anyway. In order to ensure optimum performance of the Dolby Fidelio wireless audio system,select the setup location carefully and make sure the equipment is used properly. Avoidsetting up the Dolby Fidelio wireless audio system in the following locations:

• In a humid or dusty environment.

• In a room with poor ventilation.

• On a surface which is not level.

• Inside a moving vehicle where it will be subject to vibration.

• In an extremely hot or cold environment.

• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.

• Increase the separation between the equipment and receiver.

• Connect the equipment into an outlet on a circuit different from that to which thereceiver is connected.

• Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.

2 Dolby Fidelio wireless audio systemThe Dolby Fidelio wireless audio system is an audio distribution system carrying two stereochannels from a single transmitter unit to a number of receiver units in a theatre complex. Itwas designed to enhance the entertainment experience for visually and/or hearing impairedpeople as they watch a movie.

2.2 Dolby Fidelio TransmitterThe Dolby Fidelio Transmitter is the device that transmits the Hearing Impaired (HI) orVisually Impaired-Narration (VI‑N) audio track from the Digital Cinema Package (DCP) to theDolby Fidelio Receiver. You can have up to 32 Dolby Fidelio Transmitters configured pertheatre complex (one per auditorium).

2.3 Dolby Fidelio ReceiverThe Dolby Fidelio Receiver is the device that an audience member obtains from the theatrecustomer service kiosk. The Dolby Fidelio Receiver is configured using the Dolby FidelioTablet for the auditorium number that is enabled for transmission. You can have up to 32Dolby Fidelio Receivers configured per auditorium.

The customer takes the Dolby Fidelio Receiver into the assigned auditorium. Depending onthe configuration assignment, the Dolby Fidelio Receiver receives the HI audio track, the VI‑Naudio track, or both from the Dolby Fidelio Transmitter.

2.4 Dolby Fidelio TabletThe Dolby Fidelio Tablet serves as the graphical user interface (GUI) for configuring eachDolby Fidelio Receiver and Dolby Fidelio Transmitter. It also serves to update your Dolby

Fidelio wireless audio system software and firmware. One Dolby Fidelio Tablet configures upto 32 Dolby Fidelio Transmitters per theatre.

The Dolby Fidelio Tablet stores the micro Secure Digital (SD) card, which holds the auditoriumassignment information for your Dolby Fidelio wireless audio system.

2.5 Dolby Fidelio charging stationThe Dolby Fidelio charging station is the base that configures and charges ten Dolby FidelioReceivers. The Dolby Fidelio charging station also holds the Dolby Fidelio Tablet, whichassigns the auditorium numbers in your theatre. Depending on the number of receivers, youneed at least one Dolby Fidelio charging station per theatre.

2.6 Dolby Fidelio audio interface boxThe Dolby Fidelio audio interface box uses the 25-pin D-connector and RJ-45 connector tointerface with your digital cinema server and audio processor to transmit audio channelsfrom the Dolby Fidelio Transmitter to each Dolby Fidelio Receiver. You need one Dolby Fidelioaudio interface box installed per auditorium.

3 Installing the Dolby Fidelio Tabletand Dolby Fidelio charging stationYou must install the Dolby Fidelio Tablet with the Dolby Fidelio charging station and tabletbracket, and then charge the Dolby Fidelio Tablet and Dolby Fidelio Receiver.

3.1 Installing the tablet bracket with the DolbyFidelio charging stationInstall the tablet bracket with the Dolby Fidelio charging station to hold the Dolby FidelioTablet.

About this taskThe USB cable connection is essential to configuring the Dolby Fidelio Receiver to a specificauditorium and to audio channel assignments. The USB cable is a USBA-to-USBB cable, withan adapter to convert to a Mini-B/Micro USB cable (depending on the connector type for theDolby Fidelio Tablet).

Procedure

1. Place the Dolby Fidelio charging station upside down near the edge of a table so that thetablet bracket can hang down and sit flush with the bottom of the base.

2. Line up the four holes of the tablet mounting bracket to the four holes of the DolbyFidelio charging station.

3. Use a Phillips screwdriver and carefully secure the tablet mounting bracket to the DolbyFidelio charging station using the four provided M3 × 6 mm black flat-head machinescrews.

4. Turn the Dolby Fidelio charging station over so that it is sitting upright.

5. Loosen the tablet clip screws, and then slide the Dolby Fidelio Tablet from the right sideof the bracket grooves until it is centered on its mounting bracket.

6. Tighten the tablet clip screws to secure the Dolby Fidelio Tablet to the bracket.

7. Plug the power supply cable into the port labeled Power on the Dolby Fidelio chargingstation.

8. Plug the small end of the connector with the yellow tip into the Dolby Fidelio Tablet portlabeled DC IN 5V.

9. Use a 4-inch nylon black tie wrap, and slip the tie wrap through the eyelet to secure thecable to the Dolby Fidelio Tablet mounting bracket.

10. Plug the large end (Type B) of the USB cable into the Dolby Fidelio charging station andthe smaller end (Type Mini B) into the micro USB port located on the right side of theDolby Fidelio Tablet.

What to do nextIf the Dolby Fidelio Tablet is not precharged, we recommend charging both it and any DolbyFidelio Receiver.

3.2 Charging a Dolby Fidelio ReceiverUse the Dolby Fidelio charging station to charge a Dolby Fidelio Receiver battery after theinitial setup and when the battery is depleted. A fully charged battery will run continuouslyfor 12 hours (playing at maximum volume).

Procedure

1. Place a Dolby Fidelio Receiver into one of the charging receptacles on the Dolby Fideliocharging station.

Make sure that each Dolby Fidelio Receiver is fully seated in the charging receptacle toensure good contact between the Dolby Fidelio charging station and the chargingcontacts.

2. Charge the Dolby Fidelio Receiver until the battery is full.A steadily illuminated green power LED indicates that the Dolby Fidelio Receiver battery isfully charged.

3. Charge any additional Dolby Fidelio Receivers as needed.

3.3 Charging the Dolby Fidelio TabletCharge your Dolby Fidelio Tablet using the 5 V power supply with dual-connector cable afterthe initial setup and when the battery is depleted. A fully charged battery will runcontinuously for 6 hours (or 24 hours in standby mode).

Procedure

1. Press the power button on your Dolby Fidelio Tablet.

2. After your Dolby Fidelio Tablet boots up, slide the lock icon to the right.

3.4 Powering off the Dolby Fidelio TabletWe recommend leaving the Dolby Fidelio Tablet plugged into the power adapter. However, ifnot plugged into the power adapter, power off the Dolby Fidelio Tablet to preserve batterypower.

Procedure

1. Press the power button on the Dolby Fidelio Tablet.

2. Click Power off.

4 Setting up the Dolby FidelioTransmitterThe Dolby Fidelio Transmitter is installed in the same auditorium as your digital cinemaserver and cinema audio processor. If you have a Dolby CaptiView closed caption viewingsystem, you can connect it with the Dolby Fidelio wireless audio system using the DolbyCaptiView Transmitter.

Procedure

1. Power on the Dolby Fidelio Tablet.

2. Plug the large end (Type B) of the USB cable into the Dolby Fidelio Transmitter and thesmaller end (Type Mini B) into the micro USB port located on the right side of the DolbyFidelio Tablet.

3. In the Dolby Fidelio Tablet main window, click Fidelio.

7. Remove the USB power cable from the Dolby Fidelio Tablet and Dolby Fidelio Transmitter.

For best practices, we recommend that you label your Dolby Fidelio Transmitter with theappropriate auditorium assignment number.

4.2 Supplying power to the Dolby Fidelio TransmitterUse the USB power cable to connect to the Dolby Fidelio Transmitter and to an AC poweroutlet to supply the power.

Procedure

1. Plug the large end (Type B) of the USB power cable into the USB port located on the frontof the Dolby Fidelio Transmitter.

2. Plug the other end of the Type A connector into the USB power adapter.

3. Plug the USB power adapter into an AC power outlet.

4.3 Connecting the Dolby CaptiView TransmitterInsert the Dolby CaptiView Transmitter into a USB port on your digital cinema server totransmit the closed captioning information to the Dolby CaptiView Display in the auditorium.

About this taskThe Dolby CaptiView Transmitter must be at least 20 cm away from the Dolby FidelioTransmitter antenna.

5 Installing the Dolby Fidelio audiointerface boxThe Dolby Fidelio audio interface box is installed in the auditorium and enables you toconnect your digital cinema server, cinema audio processor, and Dolby Fidelio Transmittertogether using two Bayonet Neill–Concelman (BNC) cables and either two 25-pin D-connector audio cables or four RJ-45 audio cables.

PrerequisitesLocate the short gray 25-pin D-connector audio cable (with part number CBL-DB25M-DB25F-2.5) that ships with your Dolby Fidelio wireless audio system. Locate the long black25-pin D-connector audio cable (with part number CBL-AES-DCP) and two BNC cablesprovided with your digital cinema server.

Procedure

1. Disconnect one end of the long 25-pin D-connector audio cable from your digital cinemaserver, but make sure to keep the other end connected to the cinema audio processor.

2. Connect the other end of the long 25-pin D-connector audio cable to the connector on theDolby Fidelio audio interface box labeled AES THRU CH 1-6, CH 9-14.

3. Connect one end of the short 25-pin D-connector audio cable into the AES OUT rear-panelport on your digital cinema server.

4. Connect the other end of the short 25-pin D-connector audio cable into the AES IN CH 1-16connector on the Dolby Fidelio audio interface box.

Procedure

1. Disconnect one end for both of the RJ-45 audio cables from your integrated media serveror integrated media block, but make sure to keep the other two ends connected to thecinema audio processor.

2. Connect the two other ends of the RJ-45 audio cables to the two connectors on the DolbyFidelio audio interface box labeled AES THRU CH 1-6, AES THRU CH 9-14.You should have two cables connecting your audio processor to the Dolby Fidelio audiointerface box.

3. Take the third RJ-45 audio cable, and connect one end into the CH 1-8 AES OUT port on theintegrated media server or integrated media block, and connect the other end into theAES IN CH 1-8 port on the Dolby Fidelio audio interface box.

4. Take the fourth and final RJ-45 audio cable, and connect one end into the CH 9-16 AESOUT port on your integrated media server or integrated media block. Connect the otherend into the AES IN CH 9-16 port on your Dolby Fidelio audio interface box.You should have two cables connecting your integrated media server or integrated mediablock to your Dolby Fidelio audio interface box.

5. Connect one BNC cable to the Dolby Fidelio audio interface box BNC connector labeled AESOUT CH 15/16.

6. Connect the other end of this BNC cable to the Dolby Fidelio Transmitter BNC connectorlabeled AES IN 2.

7. Connect another BNC cable to the Dolby Fidelio audio interface box BNC connector labeledAES OUT CH 7/8.

6 Configuring a Dolby Fidelio ReceiverEach Dolby Fidelio Receiver must be assigned to a Dolby Fidelio Transmitter and thenconfigured to receive audio transmission using the Dolby Fidelio Tablet. Once assigned, theDolby Fidelio Receiver is given to the patron along with a stereo headset.

6.1 Assigning a Dolby Fidelio Receiver to the DolbyFidelio TransmitterUse the Dolby Fidelio Tablet to assign a Dolby Fidelio Receiver to the Dolby FidelioTransmitter in the auditorium.

About this taskBase your audio channel selection on your wiring setup and the audio mapping configurationfor your digital cinema server.

Procedure

1. Make sure that the Dolby Fidelio Tablet is powered on, and insert a Dolby Fidelio Receiverinto the port labeled Configuration Port on the Dolby Fidelio charging station.

2. Plug the large end (Type B) of the USB cable into the USB port located on the right side ofthe Dolby Fidelio charging station and the smaller end (Mini A) into the micro USB portlocated on the right side of the Dolby Fidelio Tablet.

3. In the Dolby Fidelio Tablet main window, click Fidelio.

4. After the Dolby Fidelio Tablet recognizes the Dolby Fidelio Receiver, click AuditoriumChange.

5. In the Select Auditorium window, select the auditorium number assigned to your DolbyFidelio Transmitter.After you select the auditorium number, the Fidelio Receiver configuration windowpopulates with the assignment and sets the Channel selection to Ch. 1 (Stereo) as thedefault.

8.1 Damaged or replaced Dolby Fidelio TransmitterYou may need to erase any preexisting data on your Dolby Fidelio Tablet when replacing anexisting or faulty Dolby Fidelio Transmitter. Once erased, the Dolby Fidelio Transmitter can bereassigned to any auditorium.

8.1.1 Erasing the Fidelio app dataUse the Fidelio application on the Dolby Fidelio Tablet to erase any preexisting data.

Procedure

1. Power on your Dolby Fidelio Tablet.

2. In the bottom of the Dolby Fidelio Tablet main window, click the back arrow three timesrapidly.

8.2 Damaged Dolby Fidelio TabletYou must replace a faulty micro SD card or generate a detailed report when experiencingfaulty performance issues with your Dolby Fidelio Tablet. Faulty performance issues mayinclude loss of connection from the Dolby Fidelio Transmitter or Dolby Fidelio Receiver to theDolby Fidelio Tablet.

If there is physical damage, you must replace your Dolby Fidelio Tablet. If the micro SD card isnot damaged, you can simply insert it into a new Dolby Fidelio Tablet.

8.2.1 Replacing the micro SD cardIf your Dolby Fidelio Tablet does not read the micro SD card or is damaged, you must replacethe micro SD card to ensure proper performance of your Dolby Fidelio Tablet.

Procedure

1. Power down your Dolby Fidelio Tablet, and then remove the faulty (or damaged) micro SDcard from your Dolby Fidelio Tablet.

2. Insert the new micro SD card into your Dolby Fidelio Tablet, and make sure the top of themicro SD card is upright and the copper contacts on the back side go into the slot first.

3. Power on your Dolby Fidelio Tablet, and then select the Fidelio application.A message stating NO SD Card appears.

4. Click Ok.

5. In the new window that appears, click SD to continue.

The auditorium assignments located on the previous micro SD card are loaded into thelocal file on your Dolby Fidelio Tablet.

6. Test your Dolby Fidelio Tablet by plugging a Dolby Fidelio Receiver into the FidelioReceiver port on the Dolby Fidelio charging station.

What to do nextOnce the micro SD card is replaced, you must reassign the Dolby Fidelio Transmitter to theauditorium.

8.2.2 Generating a detailed reportYou must generate a detailed report if you are experiencing connectivity issues with yourDolby Fidelio Tablet, and then send the report to Dolby Cinema Technical Support. Eachdetailed report contains two separate files: drmreport.tgz and drmreport.txt.

About this taskThe detailed report includes information about the system logs, tablet software andoperating system versions, hardware specifications, and the session ID.

Procedure

1. Power on your Dolby Fidelio Tablet, and when your Dolby Fidelio Tablet boots up, slide theLock icon to the right.

2. Connect a USB flash drive to your Dolby Fidelio Tablet using the mini-USB-to-standard-USB connector.

3. Click Generate a report.

6. Remove the USB flash drive.

10.1 Dolby Fidelio Receiver LEDsThe Dolby Fidelio Receiver includes three LEDs: one power LED and two channel LEDs. Thepatterns depend partly on whether the Dolby Fidelio Receiver is docked (into the DolbyFidelio charging station), or undocked (with no external power present). While docked, theDolby Fidelio Receiver LEDs are continuously lit.

10.1.1 Dolby Fidelio Receiver undockedWhile undocked, the Dolby Fidelio Receiver LEDs are dimly lit for use in a dark theatreauditorium.

Steady onBattery is charged (more than 80% full).

Slow flash once every two secondsBattery is charging.

12 Audio track mapping configurationsAfter you set up and configure your Dolby Fidelio wireless audio system, we recommend thatyou verify the audio track mapping configuration on your digital cinema server.

12.1 Audio track mapping configuration definitionsThe audio track mapping configuration definitions provide useful information to help youverify setup options and avoid performance issues.

Interop Digital Cinema Package configurationInterop DCP audio channel numbers map one to one to the audio outputs of a player. Ifyou are using an Interop DCP, we recommend setting the audio mapping configuration toInter-Society Digital Cinema Forum (ISDCF) on your digital cinema server.

ISDCF audio mapping configurationISDCF audio mapping includes 16 channels with specific output functions.

Disabled audio mapping configurationDisabled audio mapping configuration is the default setting and is not mapped. Itperforms pass-through mapping, meaning channel number X of the composition playlistaudio track is routed to audio output number X (variable) of your digital cinema server.

Predefined audio mapping configurationsFive predefined audio mapping configurations are available on your digital cinema server:four channels, six channels, seven channels, eight channels, and nine channels.

Pass-through audio mapping configurationPass-through audio mapping configuration allows you to play the composition playlistwithout predefining the audio channels.

Custom audio mapping configurationCustom audio mapping configuration can be modified directly instead of having to selecta predefined setting.

Audio and video delay configurationYou can add a delay value of up to -500 to 500 ms between audio and video. When adelay is added, all audio tracks receive that same delay value. You cannot add separatedelay values for each audio track.

Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) Digital Cinema Packageconfiguration

The Dolby Fidelio wireless audio system supports digital cinema packages compliant withthe SMPTE standard. When configuring your setup, make sure that the audio selectionreflects the audio package in number of audio channels.
