This course was intended for candidates appearing for the MRCS Part A (International) with one of the Royal College of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland.

In part A of the MRCS exam, candidates are expected to demonstrate sufficient knowledge and soundunderstanding of the application of key basic sciences in surgery. This intensive one-day revision coursewas aimed to provide the candidates with an overview of essential applied clinical anatomy, basic physiological principles, principles of surgery, and the rationale behind requesting investigations and instituting management for common surgical conditions and emergencies. In addition to interactive lectures and small group teaching, there was demonstration of topographic anatomy with emphasis on functional and clinical anatomy as tested in the exam.

The candidates were provided information about the exam as follows: The MRCS Part A exam consists of two distinct but interrelated components (Applied Basic Science & Principles of Surgery –in-General) that are tested on the same day. One part consists of Single Best Answer questions (120 minutes; 135 questions) and the other part comprises Extended Matching Questions (120 minutes; 135 questions). This course, using example questions, will help the candidate prepare for both the components.

A total of five candidates were accepted in the course and they found the course beneficial. A summary of their collated feedback is available in the subsequent pages.
