8.1 Opening qualifications

(i) Opening can commence when 60% of the

planted area has reached a girth of 45 cm.

The height of opening should be 150 cm

from the ground.

(ii) Subject to foliage being fully

hardened, areas should normally be

opened for tapping after wintering.

(iii) Last checks for tappability should

be taken 3 month just prior to

opening.

(iv) Late maturing individual trees may be

opened for tapping at any time once

they have achieved 45 cm girth,

except during wintering.

8.2 Exploitation notation

Notation for explanation, is divided into

three parts: tapping method, panel

notations and stimulation. The following

notation only describe the common

systems adopted as company policy.

8.2.1 Symbol of cut

The symbol for the type of cut is denoted

by a capital letter:

8.2 Notasi penyadapan

Notasi penyadapan dibagi menjadi tiga

bagian: cara menyadap, notasi panel dan

stimulasi. Notasi berikut ini hanya

menjelaskan cara yang umum digunakan

diperusahaan.

8.2.1 Simbol irisan

Symbol irisan ditunjukkan dengan huruf

besar:

s = Spiral cut

C = Circumference

(The symbol C is used for two or more

unspecified cuts, (S+V) on a tree tapped

on the same tapping day. The details of

cuts should be given as a footnote.

8.2.2 Length of cut

The length of cut is represented by a

fraction preceding the symbols of cut.

Example :

s = one full-spiral cut

1/2s = one half-spiral cut

1/4s = one fourth-spiral cut

8.2.3 Number of cuts

(i) A number of cuts may be applied on a

rubber tree; either are tapped on the

same day or alternate tapping days.

(ii) The number of cuts is represented by

a figure before the length of cut

notation and multiplication sign

inserted in between.

Example:

2x 1/2s = two half spiral cuts.

8.2.4 Direction of tapping

(i) When tapping is downward, no

symbol of direction is used. For

upward tapping the symbol is (↑ )

s = iris spiral

8.2.3 Jumlah irisan

(i) Dapat diterapkan beberapa jenis irisan

pada satu pohon, baik disadap pada hari

yang sama atau berseling.

(ii) Jumlah irisan ditunjukkan dengan

angka sebelum notasi irisan dan tanda

kali disisipkan diantaranya.

8.2.4 Arah sadap

(i) Jika arah sadap hanya ke bawah, tidak

perlu symbol arah. Untuk sadap ke atas,

simbolnya adalah (↑ ) yang ditulis di

8.2.5 Frequency of Tapping

The notation of “actual frequency” is a

fraction in the time unit of day (=d). The

numerator of the fraction is d without any

numeral before it and denotes the tapping

period (day) while the denominator

denotes the tapping interval of the actual

frequency in days or in fraction of day.

Examples:

d/1 = daily tapping

d/2 = alternate-daily

d/3 = third-daily

8.2.6 Tapping intensity

Tapping intensity values can be

calculated from various component of the

tapping notation to provide parameters

8.2.5 Frekwensi sadap

Notasi “sadap sebenarnya” adalah pecahan

dalam unit hari (=d). Pembilangnya adalah

pecahan hari yang menunjukkan periode

sadap (dalam hari) sedangkan penyebutnya

menunjukkan interval sadap frekwensi

yang sebenarnya dalam hari atau dalam

pecahan hari.

Contoh:

d/1 = sadap tiap hari

d/2 = sadap sekali dua hari

d/3 = sadap tiga hari sekali.

8.2.6 Intensitas sadap

Nilai intensitas sadap dapat dihitung dari

beberapa komponen notasi sadap untuk

membuat parameter yang digunakan

systems. Neither relative or actual

intensities are now included in tapping

notation. For each tapping system the

total number or actual (day of tapping per

year plus recovery tapping) tapping days

per year should be given as a footnote.

Relative intensity

The relative intensity is expressed in

percentage on the standard system. To

calculate the relative intensity, multiply

out the fraction in the formula and then

multiply the product by 400.

Example: 1/2s d/2 x 400% = 100%

Actual intensity

The actual intensity is the amount of

tapping actually realised per day also

expressed in percentage. To calculate

intensity multiply four times the length of

cut in the formula by the average number

of tappings (tapping days/year) and

divide by (total number of days/ year).

Example: 1/2S x 167d/365 x 400%

1/2S d/2 = 365

intensitas relatif, dikalikan pecahan di

dalam rumus (notasi) dan kemudian

hasilnya dikalikan dengan 400.

Contoh: 1/2s d/2 x 400% = 100%

Intensitas sebenarnya

Intensitas sebenarnya adalah jumlah sadap

yang sebenarnya yang direalisasi per hari

juga dinyatakan dalam persen. Untuk

menghitung intensitas dikalikan empat kali

panjang iris dalam notasi dengan angka

rata-rata penyadapan (hari sadap/tahun) dan

dibagi dengan jumlah total hari per tahun.

Contoh: 1/2S x 167d/365 x 400%

1/2S d/2 = 365

8.2.7 Panel notation

Panel notation is the symbol or series of

symbols which describe the panel

location and the panel renewal succession

of the taping panels.

a. Vertical succession

The panels located above the first

opening height are called the “high

panels” and denoted by a capital letter

“H” (=high). The panels formed below

this level are considered as the “base

panel” and for them the letter B is used.

Examples:

BO-1 = base panel 1

BO-2 = base panel 2

HO-1 = high panel 1

HO-3 = high panel 3

b. Panel renewal succession

Virgin bark is the bark which has not

been tapped yet, while renewed bark is

bark which has regrown again after

tapping. Virgin bark is denoted by the

letter “O”, the first renewed bark by the

number I.

Examples:

BO-1 = The first cut on virgin bark

of the base panel

BI-2 = The 2nd

cut on the 1st renewed

bark of the base panel.

8.2.7 Notasi bidang sadap

Notasi bidang sadap adalah symbol atau

satu rangkaian symbol yang menjelaskan

lokasi bidang sadap dan menunjukkan

urutan kulit dari bidang sadap.

a. Urutan tegak lurus

Bidang sadap yang terletak di atas tinggi

bukaan sadap pertama (opening) pada

sadap disebut “bidang sadap atas” (high

panels) dan ditunjukkan dengan huruf besar

“H” (=high). Bidang sadap bawah” (base

panels) dan untuk ini digunakan huruf “B”.

Contoh :

BO-1 = bidang sadap bawah 1

BO-2 = bidang sadap bawah 2

HO-1 = bidang sadap atas 1

HO-3 = bidang sadap atas 3

b. Urutan pemulihan

Kulit perawan adalah kulit yang belum

pernah disadap sedangkan kulit pulihan

ialah kulit yang sudah sembuh kembali

setelah disadap. Kulit perawan ditandai

dengan huruf “O”, kulit pulihan ke satu

dengan angka Romawi “I”.

Contoh:

BO-1 = Irisan sadap ke satu pada kulit

perawan bidang sadap bawah.

BI-2 = Irisan sadap ke2 pada kulit

pulihan 1 bidang sadap bawah.

8.2.8 Stimulation notation

The stimulation notations are not

separated from the tapping notations. The

two should be presented together as a

complete notation with a full stop

inserted in between them. The notations

for stimulation are grouped into three

units and in the following order:

stimulant, application and period. A dot

must be inserted between these units to

differentiate between them clearly.

a. Stimulant

1. Active ingredient

The code consists of two capital letters

which are taken from the technical or

chemical name of the stimulant.

HO-4 = Irisan sadap ke empat pada kulit

8.2.8 Notasi stimulasi

Notasi stimulasi tidak terpisah dari notasi

sadap. Keduanya harus ditulis bersamaan

sebagai notasi yang lengkap dengan

menambahkan titik yang disisipkan

diantaranya. Notasi stimulasi digolongkan

ke dalam tiga kelompok dalam urutan

sebagai berikut: stimulan, aplikasi dan

periodisitas. Buat titik diantara kelompok

ini untuk membedakannya secara jelas.

a. Stimulan

1. Bahan aktif

Kode terdiri atas 2 huruf besar yang

diambil dari nama teknis atau nama kimia

stimulan.

2. Concentration

The concentration of active ingredient in

the stimulant should be noted

immediately after the code:

Example: ET 2.5% = 2.5% of ethepon.

b. Application

The method of applying stimulant is

indicated by a symbol describing the

place of its application on the tree. The

symbol consists of two letters.

Examples:

Pa = panel application

Ba = bark application

Ga = groove application

c. Frequency

1. Frequency of application

The frequency of stimulants

application is always stated in weeks

(w) or months (m).

2. Number of applications per period

The number of stimulant applications

per period is denoted by a number.

Contoh:

ET = ethepon

2. Konsentrasi

selalu dinyatakan dalam minggu (w)

atau bulan (m).

2. Jumlah aplikasi per periode

Jumlah aplikasi stimulan pada satu

periode ditandai dengan angka. Periode

8.3 Tapping system

(i) Examples of tapping systems as used

on company estates can be seen in

able 8.2 (page 8.12) and pigure 8.3

(page 8.13).

8.4 Marking of panels

8.4.1 Height of opening

8.4.1.1 First panel

For 1/2 spiral tapping the first panel should

be opened at 150 cm from ground level. The

angle of cut should rise at 30o from low

right to high left (Spiral). Standardize 35o.

Late qualifying trees should also be opened

at 150 cm.

8.4.1.2 Second panel

Where panel BO-1 is tapped at 1/2s with

heigh 150 cm and panel BO-2 is to be open

tapped 1/2s at the high of at 150 cm from

ground level.

8.4.1.3 Third panel and subsequence

1/4s upward cut on panel HO-1 should be

opened at 152 cm above ground level and

the angle of the slope raised to 40o. Ideally

the cut should be opened slightly above 150

cm on virgin bark so that the latex does not

overflow the channel. Changeover should be

carried out when the average height of panel

BO-2 is 10 cm from ground level. If the

first opening panel is cut at 110 cm the

upward panel should be opened at 112 cm.

8.4 Membuat tanda bidang sadap

8.4.1 Ketinggian pembukaan

8.4.1.1 Panel pertama

Untuk sadap 1/2 spiral, sadap pertama

dibuka pada ketinggian 150 cm dari

permukaan tanah. Sudut irisan 30o dari

kanan bawah ke kiri atas. Untuk klon seri

PB sudut irisan 35o.

Pohon yang dibuka

agak lambat harus dibuka pada ketinggian

150 cm setelah memenuhi syarat.

8.4.1.2 Panel ke dua

Jika panel BO-1 di sadap 1/2s pada

ketinggian 150 cm maka panel BO-2 juga

dibuka sadap dengan 1/2s dengan

ketinggian 150 cm dari permukaan tanah.

8.4.1.3 Panel ke tiga dan selanjutnya

Sadap 1/4s arah atas pada panel HO-1

dibuka 152 cm dari permukaan tanah dan

sudutnya ditingkatkan menjadi 40o.

Idealnya sadapan dibuka lebih dari 150 cm

pada kulit perawan supaya lateks tidak

keluar dari jalur. Perpindahan bidang

sadap dilakukan jika rata-rata ketinggian

panel BO-2 10 cm dari permukaan tanah.

Jika sadap pertama pada ketinggian 110

cm maka deres atas panel tersebut dibuka

pada ketinggian 112 cm.

8.4.2 Slope of cut

The latex vessels in the bark are inclined at

which slope of about 3.5o to the right, and a

cut from high left to low right (observer

facing the tree) this will cut a greater

number of latex vessels per unit length of

tapping cut than if the cut is made from high

right to low left.

Recommended slopes of tapping cuts are:

a. Downward: 30o from the horizontal.

b. Upward: 40o for 1/4s cut.

c. Slopes of new panels should be marked

by a template zinc (5cmx40cm) attached

to a pole of 150 cm high which is held

against the vertical front channel and has

8.5 Tapping discipline

8.5.1 Tasking

Arrangement of tapping tasks depends on

many factors such as terrain and tapping

being able to follow the tapping system,

discussed with Estate Department.

8.5.2 Time of tapping

Tapping should start at 6.00 a.m. and be

completed by 11.00 a.m

8.5.3 Depth of tapping

The standard recommendation is to tap

1.0 –1.5 mm from the cambium.

Note: It should noted that too deep

tapping produces low DRC and

causes wounds, while shallow

tapping produces low yields.

8.5.4 Retasking

(i) Retasking, based on panel count,

should be done once a year in

December/January with the objective

of maintaining tapper productivity.

(ii) All rested panes should be marked,

marking for brown bast is given in

Section 12.2.5. Trees rested for other

reasons should be crayon marked by

the mandor.

8.5.5 Late tapping

Rain at night or early morning

necessitates postponement of tapping

until the panel is reasonably dry, because

rainwater causes coagulation on the cut

and cup. In these circumstances, estates

resort to late or afternoon tapping.

8.5.6 Recovery tapping

If a whole tapping day is lost due to

prolonged rainfall or holiday, “recovery

tapping”, should be carried out on

Sunday. If there are more than two days

lost then recovery tapping can be done by

tapping half of task A, during the

afternoon of the following day after the

tapper has tapped his other task B. The

remaining 1/2 task should be tapped after

the tapper has completed his task C.

8.5.7 Bark consumption

Minimum and maximum limits for one

month and six-month periods are as follows:

diistirahatkan diberi tanda (lihat pada

bagian 12.2.5). Mandor memberi tanda

8.5.5 Sadap telat

Jika hujan pada malam atau pagi hari

penyadapan ditunda sampai bidang sadap

cukup kering, karena air hujan

menyebabkan penggumpalan diirisan

maupun di mangkok. Pada keadaan seperti

ini, penyadapan harus ditunda atau

dilakukan penyadapan siang hari.

8.5.6 Sadap recovery

Jika penyadapan tidak dapat dilakukan

karena hujan atau libur, sadap recovery

harus dilakukan pada hari Minggu. Tapi

jika hari yang harus diganti lebih dari dua

hari maka lakukanlah sadap recovery

keesokan hari dengan menyadap 1/2 dari

ancak A setelah penyadap selesai

menyadap ancak B. Setengah ancak

selebihnya dikerjakan setelah penyadap

menyelesaikan ancak C.

8.5.7 Pemakaian kulit

Batas pemakaian maksimum dan minimum

untuk satu dan enam bulan, sebagai berikut:

production in the panel greater to > 40 %

than latex production in downward tapping.

(v) Every effort must be made to ensure

that bark consumption is controlled. In

some instance bark consumption in a

particular month may be a little more than

the proportionate limit as a result of

recovery tapping, but this should be offset

by lower consumption in other months to

give a six-monthly consumption within

permitted limits.

8.5.8 Scrap percentage

(i) Efforts must be made to reduce the

amount of cup lump produced. To this

end, tapping should start as early as

possible (6.00 a.m) and be completed

by 11.00 a.m on normal tapping days.

Early collection must be avoided

except when rain is imminent.

(ii) As efforts are being made to reduce

scrap/lump production great care

must be taken to insure that such

scrap/lump is properly collected and

not thrown away by the tappers.

(iii)All tree lace (i.e the strip of rubber

which has to be peeled of the panel

before tapping) is not thrown away

with the bark

8.5.8 Persentase skrep

(i) usahakan agar jumlah lump berkurang.

Untuk itu penyadapan harus dimulai

sepagi mungkin (06.00 pagi) dan

selesai jam 11.00 pada hari sadap

normal. Jangan mengutip terlalu pagi

kecuali hujan.

(ii) Walaupun produksi lump diusahakan

sesedikit mungkin, tetapi harus

diwaspadai bahwa lump ini tetap

dikutip dan tidak dibuang oleh

penyadap.

(iii) Skrep dari permukaan irisan (skrep

yang harus diambil sebelum

menyadap) tidak terbuang bersama

kulit

8.6 Latex Collection

8.6.1 Time of collection

(i) In the normal weather, latex collection

must be carried out at latest (above

12.00 am), this allow for longer latex

drips to give optimum production.

(i) In the case of sudden rain or in

heavy clouds, efforts must be taken to

collect all the cup latex. To avoid

precoagulation, mix latex in the latex

can with 1% ammoniac solution; 1 cc

per litre of latex

8.6.2 Anjang-anjang

(i) Anjang-anjang refers to a raw wooden

rack for lying the latex can and

tapping tools in the field. Anjang-

anjang should have 2-3 rising post

that allowing for hanging the latex

cans upside down.

(ii) Every tappers should have an anjang-

anjang in each task. This allow the

tappers to drain the latex cans prior to

latex collection in the field and also for

field scrap/lumps prior to pick it up to

latex station.

8.6 Pemungutan lateks

8.6.1 Jam pungut

(i) Pada cuaca normal, pemungutan

lateks diupayakan sesiang mungkin

(diatas pukul 12.00), ini memberikan

kesempatan lateks menetes lebih lama

sehingga produksi lebih optimal.

(ii) Pada situasi hujan turun dengan tiba-

tiba atau mendung pekat, diupayakan

agar memungut lateks yang ada..

Untuk mencegah lateks “membubur”,

berikan larutan amoniak 1% 1 cc per

liter lateks kedalam tong lateks.

8.6.2 Anjang-anjang

(i) Anjang-anjang adalah rak tempat

meletakkan tong lateks dan peralatan

sadap di lapangan. Anjang-anjang

seharusnya mempunyai satu atau dua

tiang penyangga untuk menggantung

tong lateks secara terbalik.

(ii) Setiap penyadap harus mempunyai

anjang-anjang disetiap ancaknya. Ini

memungkinkan setiap penyadap

meniriskan tong lateksnya sebelum

memungut lateks di lapangan dan

meniriskan scrap/lump dari lapangan

sebelum dibawa ke stasiun lateks.

8.6.3 Latex reception

8.6.3.1The preparation in the latex station

(i) The tapping clerk should provide the

tools for latex reception, i.e. latex

weighing, metrolac for DRC

measurement, tapping clerk production

record book, clean water in the water

basin in appropriate amounts.

(ii) Make sure that bulking tank, latex

drains and bulking tank pipe are

always kept in clean and dry.

8.6.3.2 Latex reception and weighing

(i) Latex receipts from the tappers are

subject to weighing in correct manner

prior being poured into bulking tank

in the latex station.

(ii) Tapping mandor or clerk should read

the weighing scale carefully and

record the weighing result in the

tapping clerk production record book.

(iii) Every empty latex can should be

washed with clean water, and the

waste water should be poured into

waste water basin. The waste water

should then be kept to settle in the

basin in order to collect the slab.

8.6.3 Penerimaan lateks

8.6.3.1 Persiapan di stasiun lateks

(i) Kerani sadap harus menyiapkan

peralatan penerimaan lateks, antara

lain; timbangan lateks, metrolac untuk

mengukur DRC, buku catatan kerani,

air bersih yang cukup di bak

penampung air.

(ii) Pastikan tangki penimbunan, talang

saluran lateks, dan selang dalam

keadaan bersih dan kering.

8.6.3.2 Penerimaan dan penimbangan

lateks

(i) Lateks yang diterima dari penyadap

harus ditimbang dengan benar

sebelum dituang ke dalam tangki

pengumpul di stasiun lateks.

(ii) Mandor atau kerani harus membaca

angka hasil timbangan dengan teliti

dan mencatat dengan benar pada buku

kerani lateks.

(iii) Setiap tong yang sudah kosong dicuci

dengan air bersih, dan air cucian tong

dituang di bak penampung. Air

cucian ini diendapkan untuk

mendapatkan slab.

8.6.4. DRC Measurement

(i) Tapping clerk to make sure that all

latex from the tapper is subject to

DRC measurement and this activity

must be witnessed by the tapper

mandor.

(ii) A sample latex from every latex can of

each tapper is taken using “canting”

(PVC cup with volume of 150 ml).

Make sure that the latex in the latex

can are mixed thoroughly prior to

sampling.

(ii) Make a latex-water mixture in the ratio

of 1 : 2 (1part of latex mixed with 2

part of clean water) in the 450 ml

volume PVC cup, then stir the mixture

gently with a wooden stick thoroughly.

Remove the raised foam by blowing

the foam gently.

(iv) Insert the metrolac into the latex

mixture, and let it settle until it floats

in a stable pointer.

(v) Precisely Read the measurement index

of the metrolac in the mixture surface

(vi) The interpretations of Metrolac

measurement index reading are as

follow :

8.6.4 Pengukuran DRC

(i) Kerani harus memastikan lateks dari

setiap penyadap diukur DRC-nya dan

disaksikan oleh mandor

(ii) Ambil lateks sampel dari masing-

masing tong lateks setiap penyadap

menggunakan canting (volume 150 ml

terbuat dari pipa PVC). Pastikan lateks

didalam tong tersebut sebelumnya

telah diaduk merata.

(iii) Campurkan lateks dengan air bersih

sejuk dengan perbandingan 1 : 2 ( 1

bagian lateks dengan 2 bagian air)

didalam wadah pipa PVC volume 450

ml, aduk perlahan dengan batang kayu

sampai merata. Buang buih yang

terbentuk dengan cara ditiup perlahan.

(iv) Masukkan alat pengukur ”metrolac”

kedalam campuran lateks-air, biarkan

sejenak sampai alat tersebut terapung

secara stabil.

(v) Baca dengan teliti indeks skala

metrolac di permukaan campuran.

(vi) Interpretasi pembacaan indeks skala

pengukuran metrolac adalah sebagai

berikut :

Example :

The reading of scale index of Metrolac is

10; it means that nominal DRC is :

10 x 3 = 30

8.6.5 Collecting scrap/lump

(i) Every tapper should collect the scrap

lump from each tasks.

(ii) Lump from each tappers are weighed in

the latex station prior to collecting into

scrap/lump container in the trailer of

latex transporter.

8.7 Latex station

(i) Scrap and lumps of every tapper of

that day-tapping tasks are to be

collected at latex station together

with latex delivery.

(ii) The permanent latex station should

be built on flat or lightly undulating

area, while it is accessable by

tapper’s bicycle for latex evacuation

from field tasks to latex station.

(iii) For heavy undulating area which has

difficult access for bicycle for latex

8.7 Stasiun lateks

(i) Scrap dan lump setiap penyadap dari

ancak yang disadap pada hari itu

dikumpul di stasiun lateks pada saat

penyerahan lateks.

(ii) Stasiun lateks tetap, dibangun pada

areal rata sampai bergelombang

ringan, sepanjang masih dapat dilalui

oleh sepeda sebagai alat evakuasi

lateks dari ancak ke stasiun lateks.

(iii) Untuk areal bergelombang berat yang

sulit dilalui sepeda untuk

evacuation, the latex station should

be of mobile latex station concise of

a latex tank attached to truck or farm

tractor.

(iv) A latex station will have a coverage

of 2-4 mandoran (120-240 hectar).

The latex station is located at the

centre of areas to be served. The

determining of the location will

consider the accessibility and the

distance of latex evacuation by the

tapper or latex transporter.

(v) A latex station which have a bulking

tank size of 1.5m x 2.0m x 1.5m will

have a volume of 4,500 litre,

accommodate to latex production

from 2 mandorans, each concist of

20 tappers. The bulking tank volume

will be adapted to availability and

capacity of latex transporter and

field condition.

(vi) The heigh of latex station should be

adjusted as so, that accessible for

latex transporter to loading the latex

from bulking tank.

antara lain dengan jumlah dan daya

angkut kenderaan dan kondisi areal.

(vi) Tinggi bangunan stasiun lateks diatur

sedemikian rupa sehingga

memudahkan akses kenderaan untuk

memuat lateks dari bak penampung.
